Chapter 161 Prenatal Examination
"The invitation has been sent to Elizabeth. Do you think she'll come to the party?" Ophelia asked Emma while doing her facial routine.
Emma was holding Jane with a bottle, feeding her milk. She smiled and said, "Mom, don't worry. Even if she doesn't come, I'll find a way to make her come."
"Jane is so well-behaved, she doesn't seem fussy at all." After praising her granddaughter Jane first, Ophelia nodded, "We trust you to handle things. Have you prepared the dress for the party?"
"Cecilia has already helped me prepare everything." Emma said with a smile.
Cecilia was very skilled at handling people and situations - this was Emma's impression from being in the Robinson family. No wonder Manuel had always treated Cecilia well.
"Mom, Mindy comes from a good family, and aside from being a bit naive, she doesn't have any bad habits. Do you think she's a good match for Yosef?"
Ophelia looked puzzled, "You want to play matchmaker for them? Lyric wants to find Yosef a girl who's well-educated, from a good family, smart and gracious."
After saying this, Ophelia pursed her lips.
Emma put down the bottle, "Mom, you could mention it to Lyric."
Ophelia somewhat understood what Emma meant. She thought for a moment, "Alright, I can just mention it."
Today Elizabeth was going for a prenatal checkup - this time for an ultrasound to measure the baby's size.
Saskia noticed that this time Elizabeth was accompanied by Jake, not Armando like before, and felt a bit curious.
"The baby is perfectly normal, and your physical condition is much better than your last visit."
"Thank you." Elizabeth smiled when she heard the baby was fine.
Jake was holding Elizabeth's small purse. He thanked Saskia and put his arm around Elizabeth as they walked out of the examination room.
"I'll go pay the fee. You sit here and wait for me."
Jake gave her the small purse and went to queue with the receipt, while Elizabeth happily took out the ultrasound photo to look at.
So tiny and cute.
Maybe this is what being a mother feels like. Elizabeth thought about her own unknown background and smiled with pressed lips.
Ophelia, who was also at the hospital today, suddenly stopped. She took off her sunglasses and looked at the woman sitting in the first row of chairs.
Wearing a simple, loose dress - Elizabeth?
She wasn't mistaken.
Ophelia handed her sunglasses to her assistant behind her and walked over to stop in front of Elizabeth.
Ophelia saw the ultrasound photo in Elizabeth's hand and frowned deeply, "Ms. Penrose, you're actually pregnant?"
Whose child is it?
The voice was rather grating.
Elizabeth looked up. She put the ultrasound photo in her hand into her purse. So it was Emma's mother, Ophelia. She found it amusing and deliberately pretended to ask, "Who are you?"
Ophelia fell silent.
Ophelia was dressed head to toe in luxury brands, plus her aristocratic lady-like appearance.
People around them also noticed them.
Ophelia smiled fakely, "I'm Emma's mother. Ms. Penrose, you're really shameless."
Elizabeth was speechless. She sat steadily in her chair and asked with a smile, "How am I shameless, Ophelia?"
Ophelia fell silent.
"You certainly have a sharp tongue," Ophelia snorted coldly and smiled, "You're just a mistress kept on the side, and you still have the nerve to get pregnant and have a child? When your kid grows up and finds out their mother was a mistress, how embarrassing will that be?"
People around looked at Elizabeth.
So this beautiful woman is actually someone's mistress?
And now she's pregnant?
Elizabeth took a deep breath, her eyes showing a faint mocking smile, "Madam, please speak more politely. My boyfriend and I are in a proper relationship. Please don't talk nonsense."
Ophelia looked at Elizabeth with contempt, "You're a mistress and still afraid of people talking about it? What boyfriend relationship - you're just a woman kept on the side. Really shameless."
Her daughter Emma was officially recognized by the Robinson family.
"I recognize that woman, Elizabeth, Mr. Johnson's ex-wife."
"So she's pregnant?"
Sitting next to Elizabeth was an elderly woman, Ursa. Ursa hated homewreckers and mistresses the most. She frowned and lectured, "Miss, you're so beautiful. You should find a proper man to marry instead of being someone's mistress."
One voice spoke up for Elizabeth, "How could she possibly be someone's mistress? That's impossible, right? She got a lot of money from Mr. Johnson. There's no need for her to be a mistress."
Ophelia looked at the person defending Elizabeth - someone from their social circle whom she knew.
"Thora, don't underestimate her. She was just a little secretary who used tricks to get involved with her boss - how else could she have married into the Johnson family? Now she's being a mistress again, trying to have an illegitimate child to upset my daughter."
Thora was shocked to hear this. Ophelia's daughter was Emma after all.
Was Elizabeth dating Timothy?
The Robinson family had indeed officially recognized Emma. Was Elizabeth really degrading herself to be Timothy's mistress? And now she's pregnant.
Thora stopped talking.
She had a pretty good relationship with Beatrix. Her gaze fell on Elizabeth's belly, her expression hard to describe.
Elizabeth didn't want to sit there being stared at like a monkey.
She stood up, frowning, "I'll say it one more time - Timothy has always been my boyfriend."
Ophelia was both angry and amused, "On the day of my granddaughter's 100-day celebration, Timothy and my daughter will announce their good news. I want to see how you'll have the nerve to say that then."
"Really?" Elizabeth gave Ophelia a dismissive sidelong glance, "Then we can argue about it when the announcement is made."
Why was Timothy taking so long to pay the fee? Elizabeth took out her phone to call him.
Ophelia, because of what Elizabeth said, felt Elizabeth was challenging her - what did she mean by "argue about it when the announcement is made."
Seeing Elizabeth about to leave, she reached out and grabbed her.
"Mrs. Sutter, let go," Elizabeth frowned with a cold face. Seeing no one answered the phone, she hung up and turned to look at Ophelia, "What exactly do you want?"
At that moment, not far away, Jake was leaning against the wall, observing the dispute on Elizabeth's side. He didn't see anyone coming out to help Elizabeth.
It seemed Timothy really was dead, otherwise it would be impossible for him not to send someone to secretly protect Elizabeth.
Recently, several of Jake's hidden forces had been destroyed. He had originally suspected that Timothy wasn't dead but was hiding in the shadows targeting him.
But if Timothy wasn't dead, he couldn't possibly let Elizabeth continue to stay by his side. It seemed he was overthinking it.
Just then, Jake noticed a woman wearing a hat.
She was holding a milk tea and hurrying toward Ophelia.
Timothy's person?
Just as the woman was about to approach Ophelia, a male voice suddenly appeared calling Elizabeth's name. The woman naturally answered a phone call, casually passed by Elizabeth and the others, and left.
"That man is standing behind the wall watching. You almost exposed yourself. Leave and have someone else protect Ms. Penrose."
The woman nodded in response, "Okay."
Jake leaned against the wall watching the woman's departing figure, then looked away.
He looked toward Elizabeth's side, his eyes slightly cold. Armando had also come to the hospital today.
"Elizabeth," Armando stood beside Elizabeth. His cool gaze fell on Ophelia, "Mrs. Sutter, what are you doing?"
Ophelia let go of Elizabeth's hand. She had used force when grabbing Elizabeth.
There were obvious red marks on Elizabeth's delicate arm.
Armando looked down at Ophelia coldly and indifferently, "Mrs. Sutter, you should be more careful in public places."
Hearing Armando speak up for Elizabeth, Ophelia's gaze moved back and forth between the two of them, smiling, "I didn't expect Mr. Johnson to be here today too. You two didn't come together, did you?"
Armando said flatly, "No."
He turned to look at Elizabeth, "Did you come alone? Should I give you a ride back?"
"No need, Timothy came with me. Thank you," Elizabeth planned to go to the payment counter to find Timothy, "I'll be going now."
"Ms. Penrose, wait," Ophelia raised her voice slightly so people around could hear, and said, "When the good news is announced, I hope you'll have some self-respect and not give birth to an illegitimate child to make everyone uncomfortable."
