Chapter 124 At a Loss
Elizabeth looked calmly at Sherry, who was now laughing like a maniac. "You're the one whose brain got flushed down the toilet just now, not me. You think I'd believe what you're saying?"
Sherry's eyes were bloodshot. "The thing about you sleeping with a beggar—Armando told me about it. Believe it or not, I don't care."
"Oh, and I remember the hotel was called Starlight Hotel. A five-star hotel."
Elizabeth smiled coldly and looked at Sherry with contempt. "Being raped by a beggar is still better than being raped by Armando. Get it?"
Sherry stared at Elizabeth in disbelief at her reaction.
Elizabeth's gaze instantly went blank.
Elizabeth sneered and strode out of the restroom.
She ran right into Armando coming in.
Armando was here for a meal, and the bodyguards Sherry brought had spotted him.
He only learned from them that Sherry had been dragged into the restroom by Elizabeth.
Elizabeth stopped and turned her head to look at Armando.
She asked flatly, "Over a year ago, at the Starlight Hotel, when you had that fever—we didn't do it, right?"
Armando was speechless. After a second of silence, he said, "Right."
Elizabeth strode away.
She bit her lip.
So that time at the hotel, she was raped by a stranger?
Back then, as Armando's secretary, she had taken quite a few drinks for him. That business negotiation hadn't gone well.
It had been so long since it happened. Elizabeth smiled bitterly, trying to comfort herself.
Then another thought occurred to her—was she set up that time at the hotel?
Elizabeth didn't have time to think about her own situation right now.
The most important thing now was Jessa's situation.
She wasn't sure if Sherry was behind what happened to Jessa.
If she was, even though she'd just taken photos of Sherry and temporarily scared her off, the people who kidnapped Jessa were still on the run.
Jessa and her family of three were all in the same hospital.
Elizabeth carried a bag of takeout food to the hospital room door. Before she could push it open, she heard Jessa and Gemma talking.
"Jessa, tell me honestly—why did that man drug us this time?"
Gemma felt scared just thinking about it.
They were just ordinary people.
Gemma said anxiously, "Is it what they call crazy fans? The entertainment industry is so scary. Jessa, you should quit the entertainment business."
Jessa knew this incident had made Gemma worried and scared. She still didn't dare tell Gemma about being photographed and videotaped.
If those things ever got posted online, Jessa would probably need a lot of courage to face the world.
"Mom, don't worry. It's okay, it's okay." Jessa didn't know if she was comforting herself or Gemma.
Elizabeth waited until they finished talking before knocking and entering.
"Jessa, Mrs. Greer, I brought you lunch."
"You are?" Gemma hadn't met Elizabeth before.
"Mrs. Greer, I'm Jessa's friend, Elizabeth." As Elizabeth greeted Gemma, she took out the lunch for them.
Jessa casually placed the food container on the table, her face looking terrible. "Sorry, I don't have an appetite right now."
Elizabeth clearly noticed that Jessa's attitude toward her had become very cold.
Elizabeth sighed inwardly. "You can eat it later."
"Ms. Penrose, can we talk?" Jessa looked up at Elizabeth.
Gemma also picked up on Jessa's cold tone toward Elizabeth. Holding the food container Elizabeth had brought, she awkwardly decided not to eat it for now.
Elizabeth and Jessa left the hospital room. Since people would pass by everywhere in the hospital, they went to the landscaped area with a lawn where no one was around.
Jessa stared hard at Elizabeth. "You know who did this, don't you? I was humiliated like that because of you, wasn't I?"
Jessa was too worried about those photos and videos. She'd found an outlet for her emotions.
Elizabeth hesitated, not knowing how to answer. She wasn't a detective—she still wasn't sure if Sherry was behind it.
Jessa said coldly, "You suddenly got me a bodyguard—did you know someone was going to hurt me?"
Elizabeth looked at Jessa and said sincerely, "I'm sorry. I only have a suspect in mind."
Jessa's body tensed up. "Who?"
Elizabeth didn't hide it from her. "You know this person too—Sherry."
For a moment, Jessa didn't know how to react.
Jessa didn't know whether to thank Elizabeth or hate her right now.
When Sherry was suppressing her and she was about to quit the industry, Elizabeth sold her the song rights, allowing her to truly become a female singer.
Jessa knew then that she'd become a tool for Elizabeth to use against Sherry. But at that time, because she needed Elizabeth's song, Jessa and Elizabeth had a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Later, Elizabeth personally went to the bar to save her, and today Elizabeth had saved her again.
Without any evidence, Sherry wouldn't face any punishment.
"Sorry, I wasn't in a good mood just now."
Jessa said this while considering whether to distance herself from both Elizabeth and Sherry for now.
Jessa was still worried and scared—would Sherry go after her this crazily again in the future? She had Terry and Gemma to think about, not just herself.
Elizabeth watched Jessa's retreating figure, pressed her lips together, and her eyes showed a hint of confusion and helplessness.
