Chapter 336 How Exactly Did You Get Rich?
After Luca's call connected.
Milan asked urgently, "Luca, I saw those two people who came to our village wanting to lease our mountain land are back again, and they brought some rich people with them. Do you know about this?"
Hearing this news, Luca felt a surge of excitement. "They haven't contacted us for so long, the land lease probably fell through. I'll call later to ask about building a school in the village."
When Milan heard about the school matter, he pursed his lips and hung up the phone. His son Mason would be going to school in town anyway.
Meanwhile, Nolan was telling Timothy and Elizabeth about the areas and villages in Bluebird Town.
"From the town to the villages, you almost always have to take winding mountain roads. Many places can't be reached by four-wheel vehicles. These are the villages we've visited so far. We haven't found the communities in Bluebird Town yet."
Nolan handed a document to Timothy.
Timothy took the document and passed it to Elizabeth.
Just then, Nolan's phone rang.
Nolan nervously wanted to decline the call, but Elizabeth looked up at him and said, "It's okay, go ahead and answer it."
After saying this, she lowered her head and continued reading the documents.
Nolan didn't know the relationship between Elizabeth and Timothy, but seeing Timothy's attitude toward Elizabeth, he didn't need to worry about Timothy blaming him, so Nolan answered the call.
The caller ID showed it was Luca from Whispering Town.
"Hello, Luca, what's up?" Nolan asked.
Luca was calling to ask about the school.
He was asking for the children's sake. "Nolan, I just wanted to ask about what you mentioned before - about finding someone to help consider building an elementary school in our Whispering Town."
Nolan smiled. "I'll check on the progress for you. In a while, someone should go to the village to assess the situation. Luca, don't worry."
Luca thanked him again. He didn't ask about leasing the mountain land, but instead asked about the school - he was a good village chief.
After hanging up, Nolan looked at Timothy and Elizabeth and explained, "That was the village chief Luca from Whispering Town calling to ask about the school I mentioned before. I've already written a report and submitted it to the relevant department in the company for evaluation."
Elizabeth immediately flipped to the Whispering Town documents.
Nolan and his team had already been there. She originally didn't plan to go to Whispering Town first, but wanted to start with places they hadn't visited yet.
However, when she heard it was about building a school for the children, she thought for a moment. "Let's go to Whispering Town tomorrow."
Timothy said, "Okay, whatever you say."
Nolan was surprised - he didn't expect Timothy to be so gentle with Elizabeth. Could she be Timothy's wife?
After they finished their report, they left the room.
"I want to go out for a walk." Elizabeth put down the documents, her eyes showing a trace of fatigue.
Timothy nodded and naturally accompanied Elizabeth out.
The building they were staying in was a new one. They walked downstairs.
Probably because it was working hours, they encountered very few people.
At that moment, at a window in one of the upstairs apartments.
Seraphina was kneeling on a chair, leaning against the window looking down.
When she saw Timothy and Elizabeth's figures, a flash of delight crossed her eyes. She was about to call out when suddenly Zara pinched her ear.
"I told you to go wash the vegetables, didn't you hear me?" Zara's voice was stern, and she unconsciously increased the force of her grip.
Seraphina endured the pain in her ear and nodded.
Downstairs, Elizabeth looked up at the tall building for a moment, then withdrew her gaze.
The next day, Elizabeth and the others went to Whispering Town.
Nolan and Ryder were in charge of leading the way.
They entered the village and walked directly toward Luca's house.
Under the large locust tree at Luca's front door, several women were gathered chatting, their voices quite loud.
Elizabeth and the others could hear what they were discussing before they even got close.
"How did Milan get rich? He actually has money to buy a house in town. Strange - a couple days ago when Milan and Zara came back for the wedding celebration, Zara's nose-in-the-air attitude was really ugly to see." Casey said with confusion.
"I'm puzzled too. Where would those two lazy people get money? Could they have done something bad?" Sean chimed in, her voice carrying a hint of mockery.
"Didn't you see? Zara was so smug saying she was right to change her name, otherwise she wouldn't have had the chance to get rich." Casey said enviously. "Should I go change my name too?"
Just then, Hazel, who didn't get along with Zara, suddenly said sarcastically, "Could that money be from that little girl's family? I've never believed Milan and Zara would be kind enough to pick someone up and raise her. They must have gotten some benefit to bring that little girl home."
"Who would be kind enough to bring home and raise a little girl with a ruined face?"
Casey and the others heard what Hazel said and felt it made a lot of sense.
Elizabeth's hand gripped Timothy's hand tightly, her eyes full of anticipation. Timothy signaled with his eyes for Nolan to go ask.
Nolan's heart sank - there was actually such a thing.
He walked over and asked with a smile, "Ladies, what's this about a little girl with a ruined face?" He looked at Hazel and the others. "The boss I brought this time does charity work. Maybe we can help the little girl."
Hazel and the others had seen Nolan before. Nolan had even given gifts to all the children in the village.
"Boss, why are you here? Are you going to lease the mountain land?"
Hazel and the others only then noticed Elizabeth's group, and these women instantly lowered their voices.
Nolan smiled. "Ma'am, tell me about the little girl with the ruined face? Maybe I can help raise money to help the child with plastic surgery."
Casey, who appeared to be slightly older, spoke up. "If you can really help, that would be good. That little girl was picked up by Milan and Zara and brought back to the village several months ago. Her whole face was wrapped in gauze - it seems her face was burned."
Elizabeth almost couldn't help but ask herself, but to avoid alerting them, she held back.
Timothy put his arm around Elizabeth's shoulder, his palm gently comforting her.
Nolan asked, "How old is the little girl approximately?"
Casey guessed, "Probably around four or five years old."
Nolan cursed himself internally - they might have made a mistake.
He took a deep breath and continued asking, "Where do Milan and his family live? I'll go find him to talk later."
Hazel said, "Their family has already moved to live in town. We don't know the exact address, but you can ask Luca, or just call Milan directly."
Nolan nodded. "Thank you for the information. When I have time, I'll contact Milan."
Although Elizabeth and Timothy were nervous inside, they still went into Luca's house first.
Luca warmly received them.
Nolan first asked about Milan picking up the little girl, then asked where Milan lived.
"I don't know where his new home is. I'll call and ask for you." Luca was about to call Milan to ask for the address, but Nolan stopped him.
Nolan smiled and said, "Luca, I'll contact Milan directly later. Just give me his phone number first."
