Chapter 282 Using One's Own Strategy
Chris and the others walked into the hospital with a hint of confidence and smugness on their faces.
On their way to the hospital, they'd already heard the news about Elizabeth and Freya's falling out.
Chris laughed, "I was worried she'd still have the Nightingale Group to fall back on."
Otha nodded, "Who would've thought Freya was so... superstitious."
His tone carried a touch of mockery.
Noble families also believed in feng shui and fortune-telling, but not blindly to Freya's extent.
Rocco shook his head, "Freya isn't blind, she's selfish."
They were all confident that Elizabeth would buy their shares, which is why they were now in the mood to be curious about Elizabeth's situation.
They went to Elizabeth's hospital room.
In the room were only Elizabeth and Robbie, along with Chris and his group.
Elizabeth had specifically asked Timothy to leave first to avoid running into Chris and the others.
She'd also deliberately put on makeup to make herself look a bit unwell.
"Ms. Penrose, long time no see." Chris spoke first, his face wearing a fake smile.
Elizabeth smiled slightly, her tone calm, "Yes, it's been a while."
Chris looked at Elizabeth's complexion, with a hint of fake concern, "You're not well, yet you still have to manage such a big company. That must be tough."
"Thanks for your concern, but let's get down to business." Elizabeth said straightforwardly.
Rocco sat to the side and got straight to the point, "Ms. Penrose, we're planning to sell our shares. After all, the Sherman Group no longer belongs to the Sherman family."
His words carried a mocking tone.
Elizabeth looked at them calmly and said coolly, "What price do you want?"
Chris sneered, "Five percent above the current market price, of course. If you want them, we can sell to you."
Elizabeth let out an amused laugh, "You don't have to sell to me."
Chris fell silent.
Rocco signaled Chris not to get angry. He smiled at Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, are you sure you don't want to buy? You can think about it for two more days. We'll be going now."
Chris and the others left the hospital room decisively.
After they left, Elizabeth rubbed her chin. Something wasn't right.
What exactly were these Sherman family members trying to do??
Chris got in the car and said angrily, "Why did you give her two more days to think about it?"
Rocco glanced at Chris, "Elizabeth might wonder why we're selling our shares. We can't seem too eager."
After Freya caused such a scene at the hospital room, Elizabeth decided out of sight, out of mind, and chose to switch hospitals.
When Mabel came to visit Elizabeth at the hospital and learned about this, she was indignant and silently cursed Freya for being crazy.
Having a birth mother like Freya was truly awful, just like her own terrible parents Jerald and Arabella.
"Elizabeth, Albert and I are having our wedding the day after tomorrow. We're just inviting some relatives to the ceremony. We already got our marriage certificate yesterday."
To avoid complications, Mabel got the marriage certificate first and scheduled the wedding as soon as possible.
She just hoped Alfonso's mother Maya would do her part and keep him occupied for a while.
"Mabel, have you really thought this through?" Elizabeth asked worriedly once again.
Mabel nodded and smiled, "Elizabeth, I've thought it through."
Seeing Mabel's determined look, Elizabeth sighed softly, "I'll be there on your wedding day."
At that moment, Alfonso, who Mabel had been thinking about, had actually already learned yesterday about her getting a marriage certificate with Albert.
Alfonso smiled with a hook of his lips. He walked out of the hospital, got in his car, took out his phone and called Mabel.
Alfonso waited patiently for Mabel to answer.
When Mabel saw it was Alfonso calling, she hesitated for a moment, but still answered guiltily, "Hello."
Alfonso's voice carried a hint of weariness, though his eyes were cold as he said, "Mabel darling, my mom suddenly fainted. The doctors can't find anything wrong. I'm very worried."
Mabel knew Maya was faking it.
She tried to make her voice sound concerned too, "The doctors really can't find anything? Should you try a different hospital?"
Alfonso's voice still carried a trace of weariness and worry, "We've already tried five hospitals. I heard Border Ridge City's First Hospital is very good. I'm planning to take my mom back to Border Ridge City for tests in a couple of days."
Mabel nearly dropped her phone. She quickly tried to persuade him, "I heard the medical care in Solstice is excellent. Why not take Ms. Coleman there for tests?"
On the other end of the phone, Alfonso's eyes instantly turned ice cold.
He gripped his phone tighter. Mabel, you really think getting a marriage certificate means you can escape me?
Mabel was very worried about Alfonso suddenly coming to Border Ridge City. She steeled herself and continued talking about how good the medical care in Solstice was.
Alfonso listened to Mabel's words, a cold smile playing at the corner of his mouth, "Alright, I'll take my mom to Solstice first."
Mabel breathed a sigh of relief and gently patted her chest that had nearly been scared to death. She knew she'd temporarily held Alfonso off, but still felt uneasy.
After chatting for a bit, they hung up.
Alfonso stared at his phone, smiling with a hook of his lips.
Just yesterday he'd started to suspect that Maya might be deliberately faking her fainting spell.
When he learned yesterday that Mabel and Albert had gotten their marriage certificate, his anger nearly burned away his reason.
Alfonso had prepared to fly to Border Ridge City, but unexpectedly, as soon as he mentioned going to Border Ridge City, Maya got angry and then fainted.
Alfonso went from initial panic to suspicion.
Could Maya be faking it? Otherwise, how could so many hospitals find nothing wrong?
Alfonso decided to play along.
Meanwhile, after hanging up, Mabel blinked at Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, that just scared me to death. That guy Alfonso actually wanted to bring his mom back to Border Ridge City hospital for tests. Good thing I talked him into going to Solstice instead."
