Chapter 230 Missing
When Freya got the paternity test results, her heart stirred with emotions.
She looked at the results in surprise, which showed that she and this Wendy woman were related as parent and child.
Freya's first reaction was to suspect someone had done this on purpose.
She had always trusted Russell's abilities.
Freya took a deep breath.
She decided to meet this Wendy, and after meeting her, she would have Russell do another paternity test.
Freya picked up her phone and called Emma.
The call was answered quickly, and Emma's voice came through with a hint of happiness, "Godmother?"
Freya rubbed her temples, "Emma, I want to meet this Ms. Caldwell. Do you have her contact information?"
A smile played at the corner of Emma's lips, secretly pleased with herself, "Godmother, hold on, I'll contact her for you."
After hanging up, Emma was all smiles, filled with satisfaction.
Emma felt even more pleased when she thought about how Elizabeth would eventually be confirmed as not being Freya and Russell's daughter.
Elara really had her ways.
Emma immediately called Wendy, trying several times in a row.
But no one answered, which made Emma frown more and more, with a growing sense of unease.
Why wasn't Wendy answering?
Emma frowned. What was going on? Where had Wendy gone?
With no other choice, Emma called Elara, her tone clearly urgent, "I can't reach Wendy. What should we do?"
Elara's cold laugh came through the phone, "Why are you panicking? If she can't be found, she can't be found. How stupid. I'll give you a photo to show Freya. You've always been good at lying, I'm sure you know what to say."
Emma's face darkened, being called stupid once or twice, "Please watch your tone next time."
Elara on the other end ignored Emma's slight displeasure, hung up, and sent the photo to Emma.
Emma stared at the suddenly disconnected call, almost dying of anger.
Just then, she received the photo from Elara.
The photo showed Wendy lying in front of a car, looking like she'd been hit, with Elizabeth and Timothy standing by the car.
Emma stared at the photo, not understanding at first what Elara meant by sending it.
But slowly thinking it through, Emma figured out how to use this photo.
"I see!" Emma muttered to herself.
She knew what to do now!
How clever!
She had been thinking too small.
Emma gathered her thoughts and called Freya.
"Godmother, I can't reach Wendy. She seems to have disappeared."
Emma's voice carried a hint of panic.
Hearing this, Freya's heart sank, "Disappeared?"
Could there really be some complicated situation behind this?
Her brow furrowed, full of doubt.
She decided to go home immediately and tell Russell about this.
"Godmother, could something have happened to Ms. Caldwell?" Emma asked worriedly.
"Let's not rush. We'll send people to look for her." Freya actually wasn't sure if they could find her quickly. Border Ridge City had a large population, making it troublesome to find someone.
Emma was smart. She didn't send the photo directly to Freya, as that would easily raise Russell's suspicion. Emma decided to send the photo to Freya from an unknown phone number.
The two hung up.
Emma went to her room and found a new SIM card, inserting it into her phone. This SIM card wasn't obtained through regular channels.
Emma composed a text message and attached Wendy's photo.
The message also contained a hint: [She was taken away by someone]
Freya's phone vibrated. She picked it up and saw a text from an unknown number.
She opened it and looked at the message, her heart jolting.
There was also a photo, which should be of Wendy. Freya looked in the mirror every day, so naturally she knew her own appearance.
Wendy in the photo bore some resemblance to her, making Freya's feelings even more complicated.
Freya couldn't help but wonder if there were really some unknown secrets behind all this.
To confirm the identity of the woman in the photo again, she sent it to Emma to ask.
Emma quickly called her back, "Godmother, that's her. Oh my god, was she in a car accident? Godmother, you could ask Ms. Penrose which hospital Ms. Caldwell is in?"
Freya said instinctively, "No need to ask for now. I'll go home first and discuss it with your godfather."
"What? Okay." Emma's eyes held a dark smile.
Freya returned home to find Russell checking the guest list for the banquet invitations.
Russell looked up and saw Freya looking troubled, so he asked curiously, "What happened?"
Freya signaled to the butler Beau and the others to leave the living room first.
She handed Russell the paternity test report and the photo on her phone, "Honey, look at this girl. This is the paternity test result between her and me."
Russell took the test report and the phone. He looked at the test results first, then carefully examined the photo.
Seeing that Elizabeth and Timothy were also at the accident scene, Russell frowned, "Freya, what are you suspecting?"
"I just feel that, to be safe, we should confirm the blood relationship again. But now we can't reach this Ms. Caldwell, and we don't know where she is." Freya said worriedly.
Russell felt something was off about this, "Freya, how do you know this Ms. Caldwell?"
"Emma has been hiring new servants these past few days. Ms. Caldwell happened to interview with her. Emma saw her appearance and thought it was strange, so she took some hair for me to test."
Russell was a bit suspicious, "You met her through Emma?"
Freya glared at Russell, "Are you suggesting Emma would lie to me? That's impossible. In this kind of matter, as long as we contact Ms. Caldwell and do another paternity test, the truth will be exposed."
How could Emma possibly deceive them with something so easily exposed!
Russell was used to thinking about the dark side of human nature.
If Elizabeth wasn't lying about this, then Emma and Wendy were lying.
Freya thought of a solution, "Honey, let's keep this from Elizabeth for now. Since we can't find Ms. Caldwell, tomorrow we can find a way to do another test with Elizabeth, using several different hospitals."
As long as they confirmed Elizabeth was their daughter, then Wendy might be the problem.
Russell nodded, "Since you have doubts, we can confirm it again."
To put Freya's mind at ease, he gently patted her hand and comforted her, "It's just another paternity test. You're right, using several hospitals will make the results more reliable."
Freya smiled faintly and nodded, "I'll call Elizabeth to come home for dinner tonight."
They just needed to collect a cup that her saliva had touched.
