Chapter 210 To Be Timothy's Wife
Elizabeth had just arrived at the Sherman Group that morning when she got a call from Parker, Eric's assistant.
Eric was supposed to come to the company today to discuss their cooperation, but Parker was now informing her that the schedule had been cancelled.
Elizabeth found this a bit strange, so she asked Parker for the reason.
However, he didn't give her a clear answer.
Elizabeth frowned.
She realized something was off.
Usually when someone cancels a meeting, they'd schedule the next one, but that wasn't happening now.
She asked politely, "Is Mr. Ayers available now? I'd like to speak with him."
Parker hesitated for a moment - after all, Elizabeth was the chairman of the Sherman Group. "Please hold on."
After a while.
Eric's somewhat low voice came through the phone, "Ms. Penrose, good morning."
Elizabeth asked calmly, "Mr. Ayers, since today's meeting is cancelled, are you planning to reschedule?"
Eric was silent for a moment before saying, "Ms. Penrose, I was very unhappy with your arrangement last night. As for this project, there's no need for us to work together."
Elizabeth was instantly confused - what had she arranged last night?
She realized something was wrong.
But Eric didn't want to talk more. He had already hung up.
Elizabeth frowned and immediately pressed the intercom, "Robbie, come in for a moment."
She needed to find out what happened to Eric last night before she could figure out the next step.
Robbie quickly came to the office. Elizabeth had a serious look on her face, "Eric suddenly cancelled the Cloud project cooperation. He mentioned being unhappy with my arrangement last night, which is clearly not a small matter. Robbie, find out as soon as possible what happened last night."
Robbie nodded and immediately left the office to investigate.
What exactly happened last night? From Eric's tone just now, she could hear his displeasure with her.
Noon.
After a busy morning, Robbie reminded Elizabeth about her lunch appointment.
She had plans with Freya.
Elizabeth walked into the coffee shop. It was quiet inside, with no customers at all.
A faint coffee aroma filled the air.
Elizabeth raised her eyebrows - Freya had actually reserved the whole place.
This was a kind of invisible pressure that could easily make people nervous.
Freya sat upright at an elegant round table.
She was wearing a blue elegant dress today, perfectly tailored to show off her graceful figure.
She was looking down, taking a sip of plain water - she couldn't drink coffee because of her heart condition.
At this moment, she looked very elegant.
"Mrs. Nightingale, hello." Elizabeth walked up with a smile to greet her.
Freya looked up, her eyes gentle. She looked at Elizabeth and said softly, "Mrs. Sherman, please sit."
Elizabeth actually didn't like people calling her that, but right now she couldn't change it.
She sat down across from Freya. A server came over and she ordered a coffee.
"Mrs. Nightingale, did you want to see me about something?" Elizabeth asked directly, getting straight to the point.
Freya was silent for a moment, her eyes lingering on Elizabeth with a complicated expression.
Her initial impression of Elizabeth had been pretty good.
Freya gently put down her water glass and said slowly, "Mrs. Sherman, I hope you can talk Timothy out of sending Jane and the others abroad."
Just as she thought.
Elizabeth suddenly understood.
"Why should I talk him out of it?" She smiled softly, her smile carrying a hint of coldness and confusion.
Elizabeth found Freya's request somewhat ridiculous.
Freya's gentle eyes instantly became sharp as she looked at Elizabeth, "If you don't like Jane and the others, you can give them to Emma. We can afford to raise them."
"Mrs. Nightingale, are you sure this is something I can decide? You can talk directly to Manuel or Timothy." Elizabeth smiled faintly.
Freya frowned, "If it weren't for you, would Timothy be thinking about sending Jane and the others abroad?"
Elizabeth didn't deny this.
She didn't defend herself.
"So, Mrs. Nightingale, you asked to see me today just for this? If it's for this, then I can't help."
Elizabeth refused clearly and directly.
She didn't give any face at all.
Freya looked at Elizabeth coldly, smiling slightly, "Mrs. Sherman, you have a daughter yourself. If it were your daughter, so young, could you bear to send her abroad? Never to see her family again."
Just then, the server brought Elizabeth's coffee.
Elizabeth took a sip of the bitter coffee before slowly answering Freya's question.
"Of course I couldn't bear it with my own daughter. As for Jane and the others, sorry, I'm an outsider. Their matters should be Emma's concern. After all, I'm not their parent."
Such shameless words.
Elizabeth was too cold-hearted.
Hearing this, Freya had nothing more to say. There was no point continuing this conversation.
"Mrs. Sherman, I hope you won't regret this. No matter what, Emma calls me godmother."
Freya's words carried a hint of threat.
Elizabeth put down her coffee cup and looked at Freya calmly, "Mrs. Nightingale, everyone has their own thoughts. I don't think I'll regret it."
Freya snorted coldly, stood up, grabbed her bag and left.
Elizabeth watched Freya's departing figure and once again thought how unpleasant it was to have the title of Jake's wife.
She sent Timothy a message: [In three months, I want to become your wife]
Jake was annoying even after death.
Being widowed for three months before remarrying someone else - that sounded better.
Timothy was still worrying about how to get Elizabeth to come back home when he received her message.
Timothy's heart filled with joy.
He couldn't suppress the smile on his face.
Joe pushed the door open to report something. As soon as he entered, he saw Timothy's beaming smile.
Joe was almost blinded.
"This is the recording of the conversation between Mrs. Nightingale and Ms. Penrose at the coffee shop." Joe respectfully handed over the recording device.
Timothy had Joe play it.
After Timothy finished listening to the recording, his expression gradually darkened.
It seemed the Nightingale family was determined to protect Emma.
If he didn't want the Nightingale family to interfere, he could find a way to make them disappointed in Emma.
Timothy thought for a moment and sent Elizabeth a message: [The Nightingale family is protecting Emma now, unlikely to change in the short term. I'll find a way to make the Nightingale family disappointed in Emma]
Elizabeth left the coffee shop and went straight back to the Sherman Group.
The Sherman Group was very close to the coffee shop.
As soon as she got to her office, her phone received a new message from Timothy.
[The Nightingale family is protecting Emma now, unlikely to change in the short term. I'll find a way to make the Nightingale family disappointed in Emma]
Elizabeth looked at the message, smiled and replied: [Okay]
She put down her phone, thinking about Freya's final threat.
She had to take preventive measures immediately.
Both the Nightingale family and the Stewart family had considerable influence.
First, all accounts and documents at the Sherman Group had to be completely clear, with no hidden problems.
Elizabeth called on the intercom and had her secretary Betty notify all department heads to meet in the conference room.
With just one word from Freya, the Sherman Group could face all kinds of strict inspections.
Elizabeth had just taken over the Sherman Group and hadn't had time to thoroughly review all the previous accounts and documents.
The department heads at the Sherman Group received the notice and quickly headed to the conference room one after another.
Elizabeth walked into the conference room. Racing against time, she didn't waste words, "I've called everyone here today for one important matter. To make sure our accounts and documents are problem-free, I need everyone's full cooperation over the next two days to quickly conduct a comprehensive self-inspection. Report to me immediately if you find any problems."
Elizabeth didn't know what measures Freya would take. Today's conversation had basically embarrassed Freya.
