Chapter 160 Meeting the Parents

Chapter 160 Meeting the Parents

Charlotte didn't notice that in a car beside the parking lot, Alexander coldly punched the steering wheel and drove home with a dark expression.

The two cars headed toward the Foster Villa. Phoenix City truly lived up to its reputation as a bustling metropolis - the night scenery was beautiful. After a long day of work, Charlotte helplessly rubbed her shoulders, enjoying this moment of peace.

"Work must be tiring!" James asked.

Charlotte chuckled, "It's okay, I'm used to it."

James gripped the steering wheel, eyes on the road ahead. After a long while, he asked, "Have you ever thought about finding a father for Ethan?"

Charlotte froze for a moment, then smiled. "You know my situation. Who would want to marry me? This is probably how my life will be."

From the moment she decided to have that child, she had prepared herself for this. She didn't want to blame or resent anyone. This was just how her life would be, and besides, she had no energy to start a new relationship. Having Ethan was enough for her.

"What if I said I'm willing - would you give me a chance?" After a long pause, he spoke, turning his face to look at her gently.

Charlotte burst out laughing and reached over to hit him playfully. "Can you not make jokes like that? I can't handle it."

"I'm serious." He dropped the smile and became earnest.

Seeing his serious expression, Charlotte's laughter gradually faded. Her smile froze awkwardly on her face. She scratched her head foolishly. "You're serious?"

"Yes." James nodded seriously.

The previously relaxed atmosphere between them suddenly became awkward. Charlotte hadn't expected James to be serious this time. He had said things like this before, but she'd always taken them as jokes. But today, when he said it, somehow she couldn't laugh it off like before. An awkward tension filled the car.

Seeing her silence, James spoke seriously again. "I told you I don't dislike you. I think becoming a family with you wouldn't be bad. You and Liam can't be together anyway, so why not give me a chance? I don't think I'm any worse than Alexander or Liam."

He paused, then continued: "Besides, Ethan is growing up now. You can't hide his background forever. If you're willing to be with me, then Ethan would naturally be my son. As long as we're together, he can live a normal life, without having to hide from the Wilson family and grow up freely. I think I would treat you and your son well."

These were definitely his heartfelt words. He never minded that Charlotte had a child or had been married before. If you truly like someone, these things are acceptable.

Although he hadn't fallen in love with Charlotte yet, he believed that day would come.

Charlotte was silent for a long time before looking up at him. "You don't mind my situation?"

"Of course not. If I minded, I'd be avoiding you." His face was calm and serious. "You can think it over. If you think you can accept it, we can really try being together."

Although Charlotte had a good impression of James, she had never thought of him in that way. His sudden seriousness today really caught her off guard. James was no worse than Alexander or Liam in any aspect, but precisely because he was so excellent, she never dared to hope. She had always seen him as a friend - they joked around and got along well.

This suddenly made the friendship feel different.

"Mr. Foster, I..."

"You can think it over before answering. I'm not in a hurry." James immediately interrupted her. At this moment, he was actually afraid Charlotte would reject him.

His heart suddenly felt nervous and unsettled - a strange feeling.

"Even if you don't mind my situation, your parents won't accept it. No matter how open-minded they are, they can't accept a woman bringing her ex-husband's son to marry their son, especially when the child's father is so close by." She smiled and looked out at the night scenery.

"Don't worry about that. My parents won't care about these things!" He knew his own parents well, otherwise he wouldn't have brought Charlotte home today pretending to be his girlfriend.

"Do you like me?" she asked.

After asking, she felt it was ridiculous. She couldn't believe she'd ask such a question. If he said he liked her, how should she respond? How awkward.

James looked ahead. "Not yet, but maybe I will in the future. I told you I don't dislike you."

"And you don't like me either, right?" he added.

"I like that you tell the truth." James was indeed different from other men - true was true, false was false. A very straightforward person.

Actually, spending the rest of her life with someone like James wouldn't be bad. She wouldn't have to worry about her future or fear repeating past mistakes. It was indeed a very good choice.

"You're not still hung up on Alexander, are you?" Seeing her silent for so long, he couldn't help asking. This was indeed a serious question.

Charlotte looked at him seriously. "Of course not. The past is the past."

James breathed a sigh of relief. "When we meet my parents, if they have no objections, let's give it a try. If you're not satisfied later, we can discuss it again."

Charlotte was silent for a long time, then nodded. "Okay."

When they arrived at the Foster Villa, it was already past eleven, but the beautiful villa was still brightly lit. Although she was just pretending to be his girlfriend, Charlotte still felt pressured. After all, she had never done this kind of favor before.

It felt strange.

"Your parents are easy to get along with, right?" Charlotte couldn't help asking.

James chuckled. Charlotte seemed quite responsible. "My parents are very easy to get along with. Don't be nervous. Just treat it like being with your own relatives."

The two walked into the castle-like villa carrying their things. A noble-looking woman in her forties wearing a purple dress and a kindly-faced, slightly plump man around sixty walked toward them. "You're finally back! You kept us waiting!"

"This is my mom, Jocelyn Foster, and my dad, David Foster." James introduced them.

Charlotte smiled and extended her hand. "Mr. Foster, Mrs. Foster, hello."

Jocelyn looked Charlotte over with a beaming smile. She knew James had good taste. This Charlotte was even more beautiful in person than on TV - graceful, elegant, and well-mannered. Excellent, excellent.

David was also very satisfied with Charlotte. Although she'd been married once, as long as James liked her, that was fine. He had thought James would be single for life - fortunately not. And the two of them looked very well-matched.

The Foster couple exchanged glances, both nodding with satisfaction.
