Chapter 139: Mr. Wilson, Are You Trying to Take Advantage of Me?
Chapter 139: Mr. Wilson, Are You Trying to Take Advantage of Me?
Anna withdrew her gaze indifferently. Five years had passed, and among all the people who had appeared in her life, Charlotte had changed the most.
"Don't call Mr. Wilson anymore. I'll come back another day," she said to Mia before walking away in her high heels.
As Anna walked, she looked at the documents in her hand. Work was so busy these days that she had no time to rest properly. The company had a fashion show next month, and she was wondering whether to invite Charlotte to be the spokesperson.
Since debuting at Solstice, probably influenced by that environment, both Charlotte and Elsa dressed very trendy and fashionable. Last week, Charlotte shot some advertising photos for the brand that were very well-received by consumers, and sales went straight up. This was the so-called celebrity effect.
To be honest, she really didn't want to see Charlotte right now. Although her breakup with Bruce didn't have much to do with Charlotte, thinking about it still made her uncomfortable. Four or five years had passed, but she still held a grudge.
"Ah!" Her head suddenly bumped into something. She looked up and met a pair of beautiful eyes.
She froze. Bruce!
"Sorry," she said flatly, then turned sideways and brushed past him, her palm pressing against her aching forehead, looking somewhat disheveled.
Her wrist was suddenly grabbed, and before she could turn around, she was pulled along by that strong force. Documents scattered all over the floor.
"What are you doing? Let go." She shook off Bruce's hand and bent down to pick up the scattered documents on the ground.
Bruce also squatted down to help her pick them up, then unceremoniously shoved them into her arms and glanced at her indifferently. "Sorry, I was rude just now." After speaking, he turned and entered the elevator with his assistant, never looking at her again from start to finish.
Anna laughed at herself and turned to walk in another direction.
These days, it seemed like God enjoyed working against her. All the people she didn't want to see appeared at the entrance of the Wilson Group. She ran right into Charlotte and Elsa at the main entrance.
"Anna, long time no see." Charlotte looked at her with a smile, but this smile made Anna feel disgusted.
Anna politely extended her hand. "Ms. Harris, I didn't expect to meet you here."
Charlotte was slightly stunned. Ms. Harris?
It seemed she wanted to keep things distant. She knew this was because of Bruce.
"We'll go up first, you two chat." Elsa gave Melissa a look and strode away. Only Charlotte and Anna remained in the spacious entrance.
"Anna, let's talk!" Charlotte finally broke the awkward silence.
Anna laughed. "Talk about what? I don't think we have anything to talk about."
"I'm sorry. Bruce and I aren't what you think." Charlotte knew well about her misunderstanding. Like her, Bruce said he wouldn't dwell on the past, but couldn't let it go in his heart. After all, it was a real tragedy involving close relatives. If it weren't for fear that Anna might have overheard something at the door back then, Bruce wouldn't have chosen to date her. So in a way, she and Bruce had deceived her together.
Since it came to this, Anna wasn't polite anymore. Her voice became cold. "I was wondering why Bruce suddenly agreed to date me. Turns out it was because of your pregnancy secret. If you had been honest with me from the start, I might not have said anything. But what did you do? For the sake of your baby, Bruce lied to me for seven months before telling me he was using me. You two are really cruel."
"I'm sorry," she said again.
"I will never forgive you." She finished speaking and walked away angrily.
Charlotte watched her leave the Wilson Group, then turned to see Bruce standing in the corner. She walked over to him. "I'm sorry."
"It has nothing to do with you." He patted her shoulder, his smile still gentle.
Charlotte felt terrible inside. If it weren't for her, Anna wouldn't have been hurt. No matter what, she was the one at fault.
"I have a gig tonight, I'm leaving first." After speaking, he took the hat his assistant handed him and left with his agent.
After practicing songs with Nathan all afternoon, Charlotte went to shoot night scenes for a movie. Unexpectedly, Nathan came looking for her after filming.
"I found a food stall over there with pretty good stuff. Want to go for a walk?"
They had been filming together for several days and their cooperation had been quite good, but Charlotte didn't expect him to come looking for her so late at night. Wasn't he afraid of dating rumors?
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked.
Charlotte smiled. "You're so famous, aren't you afraid of dating rumors if you get late-night snacks with me?"
Nathan waved his hand. "I've never been short of dating rumors. You're not afraid of being linked to me, are you?"
Charlotte shrugged helplessly with an indifferent expression. "I've even had gay rumors, what else is there to be afraid of? Being linked to such a handsome guy, I'm not losing out. Maybe I can even get famous through you!"
They had planned to go, but suddenly a crowd gathered at the small stall, so Melissa had to buy some food and bring it back. The two squatted by a pond, chatting casually.
"You and Mr. Wilson don't have anything..." He suddenly stopped.
Charlotte laughed. "What do you want to know?"
"I want to know if you still have feelings for Mr. Wilson?" he asked directly.
Charlotte turned to look at him. "What, you want to pursue me?"
"Can you give me a chance?"
Charlotte suddenly choked, coughing non-stop, her face red. She drank a big glass of water before recovering. She really didn't expect Nathan to be so humorous.
"I almost choked to death from your joke."
"I'm serious." Nathan handed her a tissue.
Charlotte saw his serious expression and realized he wasn't joking. She laughed. "I'm divorced."
"I know."
"You don't mind?" Charlotte looked straight at him.
He shook his head and said calmly, "Everyone has a past. I don't care about that."
"But I care." Charlotte answered seriously. "I'm not in the mood to think about that right now. I just want to quietly make some money in this industry for a few years. As for the future, we'll talk about it later!"
"This industry is small. If you're with me, we can support each other. What do you think?" His voice was still pleasant, his expression unchanged.
Charlotte understood now. Dating was fake, mutual benefit was real. Of course, she didn't reject him for having this mindset. After all, this kind of thing wasn't uncommon in the entertainment industry.
On the surface, two people were dating, but secretly it was all about paving a longer road for themselves.
"Actually, I think Poppy is more suitable for you. You two would be a good match, plus she's the Wilson Group's most popular actress. Her future is limitless." Charlotte seriously analyzed for him.
He smiled. "This kind of thing isn't just about benefits. I think we work well together."
"I appreciate your kindness, but I'm quite satisfied with my current situation. Let's talk about this kind of thing later!" Charlotte directly refused, because she had never thought of doing that.
She just wanted to see how far she could go with her own abilities. When she couldn't continue, she'd quit. As for unspoken rules and games, she didn't want to get involved.
The entertainment industry was a big dye vat with everything in it, but Charlotte just wanted to follow her own heart. As long as she worked hard, even if she didn't succeed, she'd have no regrets.
"Alright then, we'll talk about the future later. It's late, I'll go first. See you tomorrow." He put on his glasses and turned to leave.
Charlotte glanced at him indifferently and fell into thought again. She had thought their cooperation was genuinely good, but it seemed she was overthinking. She'd better keep her distance from this Nathan in the future, or she'd be in trouble if he dragged her down.
"I didn't expect Ms. Harris to have such principles in doing things." A cold voice came from behind.
Charlotte turned around and smiled disdainfully. "Mr. Wilson still can't break this habit of spying on others' privacy. Does it feel really good to hide and listen to other people's conversations?"
This damn bastard, why was he everywhere?
She'd already had enough of his cold, disdainful ice-face on set today. Why did he appear again now? Damn it!
Alexander nodded. "Very comfortable. Want to try it too?"
"No thanks, I don't want to be as low-class as some people." She was really unhappy about Alexander's behavior.
Charlotte looked at him again. "What are you doing here?"
"Bored, just walking around," he said coldly.
"Then take your time. I'm leaving first." After speaking, she put on her hat, looked around, and walked toward the car not far away.
Just as she got in and before the door closed, Alexander got in. Charlotte's face immediately darkened. What did this bastard want now?
"Mr. Wilson, I'm going home," she reminded him.
Alexander nodded. "Then let's go!"
Melissa turned back to look at Alexander and spoke with some difficulty. "Mr. Wilson, it's really late now, our Charlotte..."
"Don't tell me she still has work at this hour." He glanced at Melissa indifferently. Melissa instantly felt a chill down her back, her hair standing on end.
So cold!
"Of course not now."
"If not, you go back first. I'll personally send Ms. Harris home later." He crossed his legs with an air of superiority, so imposing that Melissa didn't know what to do.
Charlotte reached out to close the door and spoke coldly. "Mr. Wilson, what exactly do you want?"
"You, get out." Alexander stared at Melissa.
"Why should she get out? She's my assistant." Charlotte objected. If she got out, things between her and Alexander would be hard to explain. She didn't want to get involved with someone again.
"Charlotte, I'd better get out. You two talk quickly." Melissa was scared by Alexander's gaze and opened the door and ran. Charlotte's face darkened even more. What did he want to do now!
In the spacious car, only the two of them remained. Charlotte spoke irritably. "Mr. Wilson, what exactly do you want?"
"Are you planning to use Nathan to advance your career?" A playful smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Charlotte laughed coldly. "So what if I am?"
Screw you, you're the one who needs to use such methods to advance your career.
Alexander suddenly reached out and grabbed her chin, an evil smile spreading across his lips. "I think my power and influence are much greater than Nathan's."
Charlotte looked at him. "Mr. Wilson, are you saying you want to take advantage of me?"
