Chapter 85
Scarlett couldn't help but soften when she thought about Tiffany's autism.
But when it came to a woman like Julia, she couldn't get past her feelings. Frustrated, she asked, "So what are you thinking now? Even after what she did to you back then, you're willing to accept her?"
Henry's frown deepened. "This is between us. I'll handle it."
Scarlett pressed on, "And what about Tiffany? They're so close now, and like you said, Tiffany doesn't know Julia is her mother. If she finds out Julia abandoned her, do you think Tiffany will be able to accept it?"
Henry's expression darkened further.
From his recent interactions with Julia, it seemed there might have been misunderstandings about the past. But he hadn't yet uncovered the full truth.
"This is something I'll take care of. You don't need to worry about it."
Scarlett knew how much Henry cared for Tiffany and took a deep breath. Henry was right about one thing. She could dislike Julia, but she couldn't let it affect Tiffany's condition.
She asked again, "Fine, but what about Vivian? What are you planning to do with her? Just give up?"
Henry's eyes filled with disgust at the mention of that woman. "Do you know why Tiffany is so against her?"
Scarlett brought up yesterday's incident. "Is it because Vivian hit Tiffany? Vivian explained it to us. She didn't mean to; she was just worried about Tiffany and acted impulsively. She's very regretful now." Then she changed her tone, "But you've been too harsh on her lately."
No matter what, he shouldn't have hit her.
Scarlett's intention was clear; she hoped he could be with Vivian. She was tired of pushing him.
Henry, clearly impatient, said, "Alright, I'll handle it. You don't need to interfere."
Scarlett was equally displeased. "Handle it? Are you planning to break off the engagement with Vivian?"
After a while, Scarlett still hadn't received an answer from Henry.
She couldn't wait any longer and added, "No matter what, you agreed to the engagement with the Jones Family yourself. Vivian has waited for you all these years. Breaking off the engagement is impossible. If word gets out, how will the Hearst Family maintain its reputation?"
They had wasted six years of a young woman's life.
Six years!
After saying that, Scarlett didn't linger and left Julia's house.
Henry saw Scarlett off and returned to Julia's place.
Julia was comforting Tiffany, who had stopped crying.
Tiffany seemed unaffected by the earlier events. When she saw Henry come in, she jumped out of Julia's arms and ran to Henry, hugging his leg tightly.
Her eyes were fixed on him, and the redness in her eyes hadn't faded.
Henry gently patted Tiffany's head and glanced at Julia.
He picked Tiffany up and said to Julia, "Sorry for the trouble my mom caused. It won't happen again. I've already talked to her."
Julia nodded lightly, not saying much.
"She never approved of our marriage back then, and it was very unpleasant. She was right. Now she doesn't want us to have any ties, and as an elder, her concerns are understandable."
Six years ago, Scarlett had said Julia shouldn't marry Henry. Julia didn't listen and insisted on marrying him, leading to this outcome.
After returning to the country, she hadn't expected to meet the Hearst Family again.
Today's incident was likely orchestrated by Vivian.
Julia found it laughable. She had already stepped aside, yet Vivian still tried to sabotage her.
It seemed Vivian was still highly regarded by Henry's parents over the years.
Henry didn't say much more. Continuing this conversation would only lead to an argument, which was pointless.
Hannah cautiously spoke up, "Mr. Hearst, it's time to take the kids to school."
At her words, everyone checked their watches.
Oh no, the kids were going to be late for school.
Julia quickly packed the kids' backpacks and led them to the door.
At the door, she asked Henry, "What about Tiffany? Are you taking her, or should I look after her?"
Scarlett's dislike had at least served as a reminder.
Tiffany staying at her house wasn't ideal. She and Henry were divorced, and taking care of her ex-husband's child could be seen as her trying to win Henry back. No wonder Vivian misunderstood.
Henry was about to speak when Tiffany, in Julia's arms, reached out to her, wanting to be held.
Tiffany's intention was clear; she wanted to stay and didn't want to leave.
Henry didn't say anything, and Tiffany was about to cry.
Henry decided not to take her and said, "Let Tiffany stay here. We'll see how she is later."
"Alright," Julia agreed softly.
Tiffany, who had been ready to cry, immediately smiled, her face full of joy.
Yay, she could stay at Julia's house.
She could be cuddled by Julia every night and play Legos with Joseph and Stephen every day. The more she thought about it, the happier she became.
After leaving Julia's house, Scarlett called Vivian on her way back.
Vivian answered quickly.
Scarlett's voice came through, "Vivian, I've talked to Henry. He won't mention breaking off the engagement anymore."
Vivian felt a surge of joy. "Really? Henry isn't angry anymore?"
"Yes. And Henry's future wife can only be you! Also, about Tiffany, she's just a child. You need to be more patient with her. Don't let anything like this happen again, or I won't be able to help you."
"Okay, I understand. Don't worry, I won't hurt her again." Vivian then asked, "Where is Tiffany now? Should I apologize to her?"
Scarlett's voice turned cold, "She's still at Julia's. I'll pick her up in a few days."
Tiffany was still at Julia's?
Vivian's face darkened.
What was Henry thinking, letting Tiffany stay with Julia?
It was because Tiffany didn't like her that Henry kept delaying their engagement.
Now Tiffany was so close to Julia, how could she not be worried?
Vivian was unhappy but had no choice. She could only rely on Scarlett now. "Alright, I understand. I'll follow your lead."
