Chapter 112 — Madison
My mind raced in a thousand different directions as we flew back toward Houston.
It was a route I knew by heart.
One that I would never forget no matter how far I strayed.
I spent an entire summer stressing over something that sorted itself out in the end.
As a psychologist, I learned from this. Things tend to sort themselves out.
As a woman, I also learned. I should always listen to my heart. Because the heart knows.
No matter what, the heart knows what it wants.
And when everything comes together, the heart settles into a special place of contentment and happiness like nothing else.
We flew through a white puffy cloud, and I looked over at Kade. Clouds made some people nervous because you couldn’t see anything. In a car, that would definitely be a problem, but not in a plane. I saw flying through white clouds as good luck.
Kade and I had spent three hours sitting in the restaurant talking about all our options.
It was ironic how we’d both been making changes to be with the other.
My sister Ainsley was letting me live in her apartment as long as I needed to. And she was okay with Kade moving in with me. She was rarely home anyway, and she couldn’t possibly use all the space in her condo.
So Kade and I could stay in Houston if we wanted to. Kade had been living in a hotel for three months. Almost like he knew better than to lock something down yet.
Or we could move to Denver. I could teach at the university, and he could run the Denver office of Skye Travels. Running the office would keep him in town more and out of the air.
He could pick and choose when he wanted to fly.
That was a sacrifice for him, but he assured me he was willing to make it to keep us together.
The one loose end was his mother. If he moved to Denver, she’d have to move with him.
He’d already checked into assisted living homes and had found a place that he thought would be perfect for her. She’d have her own cottage, but she’d have other people her own age to socialize with and around the clock care. But Kade wouldn’t have to be the one in charge of that care.
It sounded like a great option for her.
We would still have plenty of time to fly to Houston to see my family.
So after we’d talked through everything, it was sounding like Denver was the best option.
But we didn’t have to decide right away.
We would have my sister’s condo to live in and we’d have my apartment in Denver.
If Kade didn’t like running the office, he could hire a new person to manage it and he could go back to flying for Daddy.
I had a feeling, though, that once he had a taste of being the one in charge, he’d like it.
It was hard to go back after being the one to make your own schedule.
He took my hand and grinned at me just as we came out of the clouds.
Like our lives, the world opened in front of us.
As long as we were together, anything was possible.
