Chapter 115 Rescue

Emily was stunned for a second, then she got really mad. "I'm gonna check this out," she said.

The livestream had already been reported and shut down, but internet trolls were spreading the interview everywhere, making Emily's blood boil.

She called Amelia, saying, "No way, I'm confronting him! This is nuts! He never took care of you, never did his duty as a father, and now he has the nerve to say you don't support him?"

Amelia, worried about Emily's safety, said, "He was taken to the police station. Confronting him won't do any good!"

"Taken to the police station? Perfect, let the cops deal with him!" Emily said with a hint of satisfaction, though she feared Eugene might be released soon.

Eugene had tried to steal a national treasure but failed, resulting in a five-day detention.

Five days later, Eugene was released from jail.

Ryan was waiting at the prison gate with his men. Eugene eyed Ryan warily and asked, trembling, "I'm your father-in-law. What do you want?"

Ryan smirked at Eugene's false bravado, then kicked him to the ground.

Eugene writhed in pain, and Ryan said, "Spill everything you know!"

Ryan wanted to find out who had instructed Eugene to expose Amelia for not supporting him to the media.

Although Ryan had already gathered evidence and publicly announced through police investigation that Amelia was not neglecting Eugene, but rather Eugene's tomb raiding had caused Amelia's leg injury, including showing Amelia's minor leg fracture and facial bruises.

Eugene rolled on the ground, shouting, "Even if you beat me to death, it was me who exposed her."

He couldn't reveal the person behind the scenes yet; he needed this leverage to threaten her.

However, Eugene didn't realize that he would never get the chance to reveal who was behind it.

Seeing that Eugene wouldn't talk, Ryan prepared to use more force.

Just then, Emily arrived at the prison gate, panting and holding a stick, ready to teach Eugene a lesson. She saw Eugene lying on the ground, wailing in pain.

Knowing it was Ryan's doing, Emily felt empowered and shouted, "What right do you have to say Amelia doesn't support you? Do you even know what kind of person you are?"

Emily's usually gentle demeanor vanished.

She took on a fierce stance and struck Eugene with the stick, venting her anger.

Eugene rolled and begged, "Stop. If you keep hitting me, I'll reveal everything!"

"You dare threaten me!" Emily was even angrier and continued to beat him, especially on his face, swelling it up so he couldn't speak.

Ryan saw this and signaled his men to back off.

After venting her anger, Emily felt relieved and thought Eugene wouldn't cause trouble for a while. She then left with Ryan and the bodyguards.

Two days later, Amelia's wounds had healed, and she was preparing to be discharged from the hospital.

In the afternoon, she suddenly received a call from Eugene. He said, "Amelia, it's your dad, Eugene. I've kidnapped your mom. If you want to save her, bring me one billion dollars!"

Amelia was shocked. How could Eugene have kidnapped Emily? Worried about Emily's safety, Amelia asked, "Let me talk to my mom. I need to hear her voice!"

Eugene looked at Emily, who was lying on the ground with her mouth and nose covered by a cloth, and panicked. The kidnapping was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Eugene had come to Meadowbrook City to intimidate Emily as revenge for her beating him so badly two days ago, using some sneaky means to knock her out. But now Amelia wanted to hear Emily's voice. How could Eugene manage that?

Should he wake her up?

Amelia, hearing no response, grew suspicious. "Are you lying to me?" she asked.

Eugene responded, "Wait, I'll send you a photo."

Amelia felt something was off and said firmly, "Photos can be faked. Turn on the video!"

Eugene hesitated and responded, "Okay."

He then turned on his phone camera and pointed it at Emily lying on the ground.

Seeing Emily with her eyes closed, tied up on the dusty floor, Amelia recognized the familiar surroundings of Meadowbrook City. Her heart ached, and she asked hoarsely, "What did you do to my mom? Why are her eyes closed?"

Eugene quickly turned off the video and switched to a call. "She is fine. Bring the money, and I'll return her to you."

Amelia couldn't calm down and said, "You better not hurt my mom. Otherwise, forget about one billion dollars; you won't get a penny!"

Eugene impatiently said, "Give me the money, and I won't harm her. When will you bring it?"

Amelia asked, "Do you want cash or a transfer?"

Eugene replied, "Cash."

Amelia said, "Such a large amount of cash requires a bank appointment. I don't have that much."

Eugene was annoyed and asked, "How much do you have?"

"Not much, it's all in the bank," Amelia answered truthfully.

Eugene frowned and said, "Ask Ryan. He must have it."

"Okay, don't hurt my mom," Amelia reiterated.

Eugene grew agitated and exclaimed, "One more word, and I'll smash Emily's head!"

Amelia didn't dare provoke him further and replied, "Okay, I'll get the money and come to Meadowbrook City."

Eugene said, "Remember, come alone. No bodyguards, no helpers!"

Amelia didn't dare anger him, so she agreed.

After hanging up, Amelia felt anxious, her thoughts in disarray. She had one goal: to get the money and save Emily! She instructed the bodyguards to drive her to find Ryan. In the afternoon, she arrived at the company. Ryan was working in his office. Amelia explained the situation in detail.

Ryan listened calmly, buttoned his suit, and stood up. "I'll call the police and have them come to arrest him. Let's go."

Amelia hesitated and said, "He told me to come alone, no bodyguards, no police."

Ryan remained composed and replied, "Eugene is a coward. If you go alone, you'll fall into his trap. Strength in numbers. Follow my plan."

Amelia, too worried to think clearly, could only follow Ryan's lead.

They prepared the cash and headed to Meadowbrook City to rescue Emily.

By the time they arrived, it was midnight. Ryan put his arm around Amelia's shoulder and said, "Call him and get him to come downstairs. We'll hide and handle it once he comes down."

"Okay." Amelia nodded and got out of the car.

As the cold wind blew, Amelia approached the building's entrance with the cash box in hand, glancing at the illuminated house, her worry for Emily growing.

Remembering Ryan's words, she called Eugene.

Eugene's hoarse, excited voice came through. "Did you bring the money?"

"I did. Come down and get it!" Amelia said.

Eugene glanced at Emily, still unconscious on the ground, worried that Amelia might have brought help, especially since he had no backup and no real hostage to threaten Amelia.

Thinking this, he said, "I'll come down with your mom!"
