Chapter 112 Eugene Steals the Antique
Amelia finished repairing the family genealogy book a week later. On this day, she handed the book to Christopher at Antique Charm. As Christopher accepted it, he mentioned to Royce that there was an antique in Bluewater Village that needed to be excavated, but he wasn't sure if it was genuine and wanted it appraised first.
Royce suggested that Amelia should give it a try.
Amelia was curious about the antique Christopher mentioned and couldn't resist Royce's request, so she called Ryan to tell him about it.
Ryan was unhappy, but considering that Bluewater Village was not far from the antique market, though a bit remote from Pinecrest City, he eventually decided to assign four bodyguards to accompany Amelia to Bluewater Village.
By the time they arrived at Bluewater Village, it was already afternoon.
Bluewater Village was a good place with beautiful mountains and clear waters.
As soon as Amelia saw the hills of Bluewater Village, she felt that there must be ancient tombs beneath them. No wonder Christopher mentioned an antique; her curiosity made her eager to explore.
Christopher had already cleared the rubble and traps at the entrance.
But even during the day, the underground was very dark. However, seeing the dampness down there, Amelia could be fairly certain that genuine antiques were buried in the ancient tomb.
Amelia called Christopher to report the general situation. After learning about it, Christopher told her to wait for the relevant archaeological team to arrive. Amelia and the bodyguards sat on the hilltop to wait.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
It was an unknown number and Amelia hung up once.
The caller dialed again and Amelia had no choice but to answer.
After a greeting, a strange and elderly male voice came through the phone, "Amelia, where are you now?"
Amelia was puzzled, "Who are you?"
The strange male voice became displeased, "I'm your father, Eugene. Someone saw you with a few bodyguards on the hilltop of Bluewater Village."
Amelia asked coldly, "Is there something you need?"
"Why are you on the hilltop of Bluewater Village?" Eugene asked persistently.
Amelia casually made up a lie, "Hiking, exercising."
"Are you kidding me? There are so many hills near the antique market, and you came to Bluewater Village just to hike?" he questioned suspiciously.
Amelia didn't want to deal with him anymore and hung up the phone directly.
Not long after, a bodyguard suddenly pointed down the hill and said, "Ms. Smith, look at the bottom of the hill, someone is climbing up!"
At first, Amelia thought the archaeological team had arrived, but when she looked in the direction the bodyguard pointed, she saw that the leader was Eugene, followed by five or six burly men.
The hill wasn't steep and they climbed up quickly.
Amelia looked at Eugene, who had already climbed up, and questioned, "What are you doing here?"
Eugene glanced around and his gaze fell on the hole the bodyguards were digging with shovels. He sneered sinisterly, "Amelia, are you planning to dig up someone else's grave?"
Amelia was worried that he would go down and steal the antiques and denied it, "No."
Eugene didn't believe her and waved his hand, "Let's go down and see what treasures are inside! Isn't this better than fishing for scraps in the river every day?"
Because he was in heavy debt, he kept a close eye on Amelia, the cash cow, always hoping to strike it rich.
Amelia stepped back, standing at the entrance of the cave, and warned, "You can't go down there!"
The four bodyguards also surrounded them, watching them warily.
"Bastard, you won't give me money, and now you won't let me make money?" Eugene sneered, then turned to his men and said, "Let's go down! Take whatever you see! Ignore her!"
Amelia quickly instructed the bodyguards, "Stop them!"
Four bodyguards against five or six men resulted in a stalemate.
Eugene, eyes red with anger, glared at Amelia and shouted, "Move aside!"
"Don't do anything foolish!" Amelia stood her ground.
Eugene ignored her and grabbed Amelia's wrist, trying to pull her away from the entrance, but he couldn't move her. In the struggle, Amelia was suddenly pushed into the cave by him!
The cave was about 7 to 8 feet deep. When Amelia landed, she lost her balance and fell to the ground.
A sharp pain shot through her ankle and her right foot was sprained. At the same time, her face was scratched by a falling branch, causing intense pain that nearly brought her to tears. It took a long time for her to recover.
Amelia was furious. She endured the pain and bent down to pick up a branch from the ground. She shouted at Eugene, who was peering down from the entrance, "If you dare come down, I'll stab you with this branch!"
"Bastard, if I get something valuable down there, I won't ask you for money anymore! I'm doing this for your own good!" Eugene shamelessly said.
He was just as shameless as Sophia and Jessa!
Recalling Christopher's words, Amelia said, "It's illegal to touch these things! The archaeological team will be here soon!"
"I'm your father, and you're siding with the archaeological team instead of me! How much did they pay you?" Eugene became agitated at the mention of the archaeological team.
Amelia felt there was no way to communicate with him; every word was a waste of time.
She bent down to pick up a few more branches, held several in each hand, and stubbornly blocked the entrance to prevent him from coming down.
After a while, Eugene brought a large rock and threatened to throw it down, "If you don't move, I'll throw this rock down!"
Was he trying to kill her? Amelia was glad she didn't grow up with him or she would have been ruined by him.
During the standoff, a bodyguard noticed the commotion and quickly ran over to tackle Eugene, dragging him aside. After a few rounds of fighting, the bodyguard knocked Eugene unconscious.
Amelia breathed a sigh of relief. After about half an hour, the four bodyguards finally subdued everyone above and tied them up with ropes.
A bodyguard handed a rope down the entrance, "Ms. Smith, grab the rope, and we'll pull you up!"
Soon, a rope dangled down from the entrance. Amelia tightly grasped one end, and the four bodyguards pulled her up together.
Amelia hopped on one foot, limping.
Her right foot was severely swollen, and too painful to touch the ground.
Supported by a bodyguard, she sat down under a tree. Enduring the pain in her foot, she took out her phone and switched to the camera to check the injury on her face.
There was a cut about 1 inch long on her right cheekbone, almost hitting her eye.
Amelia gasped. If the cut had been a bit higher, her right eye would have been blinded.
The bodyguards were all frightened and said in unison, "Ms. Smith, should we take you to the hospital first?"
"Let's wait for the archaeological team to arrive," Amelia shook her head. After thinking for a moment, she added, "Don't tell Ryan about my injury."
The bodyguards exchanged glances and nodded in agreement, "Okay."
They originally thought it was just an appraisal, not expecting such a big incident.
