Chapter 139

Susan was floored. She never thought Frederick would go to such extremes for Alexandra.

She wondered if she, Susan, was part of the group of women Frederick was referring to. If she was, that would be pretty interesting.

Celeste, on the other hand, was seething with jealousy and resentment.

Frederick's words weren't just to please Alexandra; they were also a clear message to Celeste.

Today's drama wouldn't have blown up if Celeste hadn't been so shamelessly clingy with Frederick.

Now that Alexandra was giving Frederick the cold shoulder, he had to find a way to smooth things over and tackle the real issue.

And that issue was Celeste, who had been trying every trick in the book to get close to him from the start.

Under the table, Celeste's hand was clenched so tight her nails dug into her palm, drawing blood, but she didn't even notice.

Alexandra finally reacted to his intense declaration.

"Why are you saying all this out of nowhere?"

Alexandra wasn't really mad; she hadn't even taken it to heart.

She had always seen through Celeste's antics.

To win her parents' favor and secure this marriage, Celeste had done everything possible, no matter how low.

Alexandra knew this, so she understood from the start that it was all Celeste's one-sided effort to seduce Frederick.

What did that have to do with Frederick? Why should Alexandra be angry?

But despite this, she was still troubled, her brows furrowed, because there was an issue with the gang.

She had been woken up by a call from Marcus that morning.

Marcus said that several gang members had been ambushed and were now in the hospital.

The gang was in a state of panic, and Marcus didn't know what to do, so he contacted Alexandra.

Worried, Alexandra asked for more details before hanging up and going downstairs.

All morning, Alexandra had been preoccupied with this matter.

She stared blankly at Frederick, still unsure how to respond when her phone rang.

Already worried about her subordinates, Alexandra immediately got up to answer the call.

"Hello?"

"Alexandra, the outsiders have given us an ultimatum. They said if we don't vacate the territory within a week, they'll deal with us!"

Alexandra's brows furrowed at this.

The territory Marcus mentioned was in the Northeastern Territory, just a few miles from the border.

It was a sparsely populated, mountainous area, perfect for the gang's operations. Alexandra had her subordinates settle there and start some businesses, including some under-the-table dealings.

Territory disputes were common, but this time they had injured her people.

This was something Alexandra couldn't tolerate.

"Take action."

With just those words, a fierce glint flashed in Alexandra's eyes.

She had always believed in resolving issues without violence if possible.

But this time, they had hurt her people first.

This was something Alexandra couldn't endure.

Marcus, relieved by her response, said, "Alexandra, we should've done this sooner!"

"If we hadn't been so patient before, things wouldn't have gotten this bad!"

"Alright, you and Dylan handle it."

Alexandra noticed Frederick approaching and hurried to end the call.

"Let me know if anything comes up."

She hung up just as Frederick reached her, pulling her into his arms.

"You're mad. I know I messed up. I promise I'll make it right!"

"Promise what?" Alexandra, lost in her own thoughts, hadn't caught what Frederick said earlier.

"I said that from now on, no woman except you will come within a meter of me. I promise."

"What about your grandma? And my mom?"

Alexandra found Frederick's behavior childish. It was like deleting all opposite-sex contacts from each other's phones after starting a relationship, even including family and friends.

His actions were simply immature and unreasonable.

Alexandra couldn't understand it. Frederick, momentarily speechless, quickly changed his stance.

"I meant anyone other than family."

"You don't have to do that."

Alexandra sighed. "Besides, I didn't even care about what just happened."

"But you've been frowning. I thought you were mad."

Frederick still remembered the relationship advice he had read.

"I told you, I'm not."

Alexandra replied as she walked towards the dining room, with Frederick following her like a puppy seeking attention.

"But you really don't look happy."

"This has nothing to do with you." Alexandra sat down and looked at Susan and Andrew across the table. "I just took a call."

They nodded with a smile, while Frederick sat down beside Alexandra.

"Your emotions affect me deeply. How could it not matter to me?"

His words were so cheesy and loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.

Celeste, who already had no appetite, bit her lip in anger.

Andrew and Susan exchanged a glance, both feeling a bit embarrassed by the display.

Alexandra didn't expect him to be so bold in front of everyone and felt a bit embarrassed herself. "You barely ate breakfast. Hurry up and eat."

She placed a piece of pastry in Frederick's bowl.

He eagerly picked it up and ate it, as if it were a divine gift.

"Anything from you tastes amazing!"

"If you like it, have more." Alexandra, exasperated, placed the entire plate of pastries in front of Frederick.

Couldn't he tone it down a bit in front of her parents?

Alexandra didn't dare look up, but she could see from the corner of her eye that Andrew and Susan were trying not to laugh.

"Since Alexandra wants me to eat more, I'll finish it all!"

Frederick, acting like he had no sense, stuffed the pastries into his mouth, his cheeks bulging.

Seeing that he might choke, Alexandra quickly handed him a glass of milk.

"What are you doing? Why are you eating so much?"
