Chapter 33 Chapter 33: Confronting BrightVerse Entertainment
The moment Balthazar heard her mention Ryan, a wave of irritation surged through him. Even though he knew she had only served two men, it didn’t mean there wouldn’t be a third or fourth. He hadn’t brought it up, and yet she dared to!
He began snapping:
"Don’t bring this up again, and stop hanging around him. I said you don’t need to work. I’ll take care of everything, do you understand?"
Suddenly being yelled at, Selena pouted, displeased. She responded:
"No way, I already signed a contract. How could I not go to work?"
"You signed a contract? Do you enjoy selling yourself that much?"
Selena’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at Balthazar, asking incredulously:
"Sell myself? I’m a streamer."
Streamer?
Immediately, images of scantily clad girls dancing provocatively in front of phones and computers flashed in Balthazar’s mind. He had even seen some who performed explicit acts online just to earn a few bucks.
"You stream that trash?"
Realizing that Balthazar had misunderstood, Selena could only sigh. She explained:
"I just sing, and I cover my face. No one knows who I am."
Seeing that he still didn’t believe her, she showed him her Kola account. As soon as he saw it, he was shocked. So, the famous angelic voice that had been making waves for the past month was hers?
"Don’t tell anyone after you see this. Anyway, I’m running late. I have to head to the office."
With that, Selena stood up to leave, but Balthazar suddenly grabbed her hand and said:
"I’ll take you."
Not knowing what new whim he was indulging, Selena nodded in agreement, fearing he might change his mind and prevent her from going.
Upon arrival, Selena quickly kissed Balthazar on the lips before putting on her mask and sunglasses, heading up the private entrance to Kola’s CEO’s office. Watching her walk away, a sense of unease gripped his heart. She was so talented that she would undoubtedly no longer need him one day. No wonder she had only signed a one-year contract as his lover.
Thinking about the day she would leave, fear suddenly welled up inside Balthazar. The thought of losing this dream-like life made him feel a sudden, irrational urge.
…
Selena entered Kevin’s office, and as soon as he saw her, he warmly welcomed her.
"Ama, take a look at this. These are all the scripts the company plans to shoot for the upcoming New Year."
Selena flipped through them before choosing a horror-comedy script, then said:
"Let’s go with this one. Schedule it for release on the January 29th next year."
Kevin immediately frowned.
"Choosing this script is fine, but can we push the release to another date?"
"Why?" Selena asked.
Kevin scratched his head, unable to respond, so his assistant stepped in:
"Because the entertainment company BrightVerse Entertainment is also releasing a horror-comedy film on January 29th next year. Their company is strong, and we think it’s best to avoid competing head-on."
Selena tapped her fingers on the desk. Recently, she had been spending time at Balthazar’s company, and his work habits had gradually influenced her. She replied:
"I didn’t invest in this company for you to cower like this. What about BrightVerse Entertainment? Afraid of a snake bite once, and now scared of eels forever?"
Kevin’s face turned red with anger. It wasn’t that he didn’t know BrightVerse Entertainment had played dirty tricks after the nude scandal, but he also knew it was partly his own lax management that caused the problem. Now that the company had finally started to recover, he wasn’t willing to risk everything again.
"Don’t think you can just throw some money around and say whatever you want. This is my company, and it’s not your place to interfere."
Selena raised her head and looked him straight in the eye, then slowly said:
"Just a few days ago, BrightVerse Entertainment called me, offering me a position with their company. Do you know how much they offered me? Over two hundred thousand a month, not to mention fan gifts and the chance for major career advancement. Does that sound tempting? If it weren’t me but someone else, they’d have jumped ship long ago. Keep backing down like this, and your company will end up nothing but an empty shell."
Hearing her words, Kevin froze, and his anger vanished. Selena was right. Today, they had offered her, and tomorrow they could offer someone else. Was he really going to sit back and watch the company’s talent migrate to other platforms?
Lately, thanks to Selena’s investment, employee benefits had improved, which was why the exclusive streamers had stayed. Without her, they would have long since packed up and left.
Bang!
Kevin suddenly slammed his hand on the desk and shouted:
"Fine, we’ll do it my way. Why should I be afraid of BrightVerse Entertainment and shy away from the peak season?"
Selena smiled after Kevin finished speaking. Having accomplished what she needed to, she stood up to leave, but Kevin stopped her, saying:
“Ama, are you free? Our company is having a gathering with the key members today. It would be great if you could join us."
Selena glanced at her phone, where a message from Balthazar was displayed:
“I’m waiting for you at the parking lot. Afterward, I’ll take you shopping.”
Selena thought to herself that a chairman must be quite busy, so why was this man so free? Even if he had free time, he could hang out with his friends—why did he always cling to her?
But on second thought, it was good this way; at least he wouldn’t be looking for Amelia. She was planning to stick with him all day anyway.
So Selena looked up and replied:
“I’m afraid I can’t. My boyfriend is waiting for me, and I have to go with him."
With that, she turned and left. Kevin watched her go with a sigh, and his assistant asked:
“We don’t have any company gathering today, do we?"
Kevin clicked his tongue and replied:
“I made it up. I just wanted to see what Ama looked like. When she signed the investment contract with us, she brought a young man to sign on her behalf while she only provided the money. Her face was completely covered the whole time—don’t you think that’s strange? With such a seductive figure, too!"
