Chapter 29 Chapter 29: Caught in the Act
Selena spoke so clearly and concisely that Kevin couldn’t help but seriously consider her words. This was indeed a time when Kola needed investment the most, but he still couldn’t believe she could invest such a large sum.
“How much do you want to invest in Kola?"
“Three billion."
Bang!
Kevin jumped to his feet in excitement, causing his chair to topple over onto the floor.
“Are you really going to invest three billion?"
If he could secure three billion, Kola would be saved! He had even been planning to beg his old man for money.
Selena didn’t answer Kevin’s question directly but said:
“I’ll continue streaming on Kola. You don’t need to give me any special resources. As for the investment, think it over carefully and prepare the documents. Next time we meet, we’ll finalize everything."
With that, Selena stood up and left the company. Kevin didn’t walk her to the door; he left that to his assistant. When she returned, she found her boss staring blankly into the distance.
“What’s wrong? Did she refuse to sign the contract?"
Kevin shook his head in a daze and replied:
“No… I thought I was welcoming a benefactor, but I might have struck gold instead."
…
A month later, everything unfolded just as Selena had planned. She successfully saved Kola Entertainment from a near defeat, helping it overcome its crisis and gradually regain vitality.
She herself had also gained a reputation in the live streaming world, as her singing truly had a soothing, stress-relieving quality that was much loved. Although some troublemakers appeared, her genuine fans always defended her. She gradually established her footing on Kola, catching the attention of a few other entertainment companies, including BrightVerse Entertainment.
BrightVerse Entertainment was the entertainment company that William had spent heavily to set up for Amelia. Backed by the Sterling family, the company had surpassed many competitors in just one year, attracting numerous well-known stars.
However, BrightVerse Entertainment’s rise to the top wasn’t exactly spotless. A prime example was the stripping scandal at Kola. If her guess was right, it was BrightVerse Entertainment that had planted someone to sabotage their rival. Such underhanded tactics could only come from that vile woman.
Inside a quiet café.
Kelly, wearing sunglasses, sat down across from Selena.
“I’ve gotten close to William’s father. He’s superstitious, and once he found out our birth dates are compatible, he immediately started pursuing me. Hmph, what kind of god does a man like him believe in?"
Selena said worriedly: “For now, don’t let your ex-mother-in-law find out."
Kelly nodded.
“I know what to do, don’t worry."
But Kelly didn’t tell Selena that she had no intention of sticking to the plan.
Selena had only asked her to seduce her ex-father-in-law and make her ex-mother-in-law miserable. But Kelly wanted more. She wanted him to hand over all his assets to her and then wreak havoc on the Sterling family business. Only then would she be satisfied.
After parting with Kelly, Selena remained in the café, enjoying her snack.
“What a coincidence, running into you again."
Selena looked up to see Ryan standing in front of her, smiling brightly as if basking in a spring breeze.
“Mind if I join you?"
Selena nodded. After all, they knew each other, and she couldn’t just turn him away.
Ryan ordered a drink for himself and started chatting with Selena. Ever since they met, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her, and now his wish had finally come true.
“You like cake, don’t you? I saw you order a slice last time, too."
Selena glanced down at her snack and shook her head:
“Not really. But this café doesn’t serve anything other than sweets."
At that moment, the waiter brought Ryan’s hot coffee. While setting it down, the waiter accidentally bumped his elbow, causing the cup to spill. Ryan immediately grabbed Selena’s hand and lifted it to prevent her from getting burned.
“Phew, that was close."
Ryan gently squeezed Selena’s hand, enjoying the softness that made him reluctant to let go.
Inside a car parked across from the café, Balthazar watched as his best friend’s hand intertwined with his lover’s, his teeth grinding audibly, and the veins on his forehead bulging.
“Damn it! I rushed home to have dinner with you, and you’re out here on a date with another guy."
He flung open the car door and marched straight into the café, heading directly to Selena’s table. He glared coldly at Ryan and said:
“What a coincidence."
After a month of having Selena by his side, Balthazar felt that his life had significantly improved. Every day, his clothes were neatly pressed, unlike before when he was more careless. His meals were more balanced and healthy, and his gastritis had stopped flaring up—all thanks to her.
Her efforts over the past month made him develop a strong desire for a warm family life. He even thought about renewing the contract with her once it ended. After all, she liked money, so he could just give her a lot of it. If necessary, he could even be a bit gentler with her as a reward for exceeding his expectations.
Today, he had planned to come home and have dinner with her, so he hurriedly finished his piled-up work, thinking she would be pleasantly surprised to see him.
From the camera, he knew that she usually didn’t go anywhere, just locked herself in her room—completely different from what he had imagined a woman like her to be. This only made him like her more.
Yet now, he caught her hand in hand with another man, and this man happened to be his best friend.
Serving him wasn’t enough for her? Did she need another client?
It turns out, the nature of someone in this dirty profession is still disgusting, so greedy.
Selena and Ryan looked up to see Balthazar standing there with a dark expression, his eyes brimming with anger.
"Balthazar, is that you? Did you have a meeting here with a client?"
Ryan couldn’t think of any other reason why Balthazar would come to this small café.
