Chapter 22 Chapter 22: The Voice of an Angel
Selena let out a helpless sigh: “I already told you, he’s my younger brother."
Balthazar reached out, pinching her cheek and glaring at her.
“You dare talk back to me?"
Selena felt exhausted. Why was this man so unpredictable? Moments ago, he was speaking softly, and now he had completely flipped.
She took a deep breath and said: “Sorry… I’ll be more careful next time."
Seeing her bow her head and apologize didn’t make him feel any better. Was it because she was too traumatized by last night that she no longer dared to argue with him like she used to?
No matter how irrational Balthazar became afterward, Selena obediently complied, which only irritated him further. In the end, he stormed out of the hospital room, filled with anger.
As soon as he left, Selena sighed with relief. She took out her phone and logged into the Kola platform. The reason she paid attention to it was that a year ago, William had opened a new entertainment company for Amelia. If she could help Kola grow, wouldn’t that mean the entertainment company would have competition?
A few days later, except for the first visit to Selena, Balthazar didn't come to the hospital even once. She didn’t mind; after the doctor discharged her, she packed her belongings and returned to the villa.
Despite being empty for a few days, the villa was still neat and tidy. She guessed that he must have called a housekeeper to clean, which didn't make her very happy. She picked up a cloth and started wiping down the furniture, and this scene was coincidentally captured by the surveillance camera, seen by him.
"Is there something wrong with her brain? There’s already a housekeeper to do the cleaning. She just got better; she should rest. If she wants to put on an act, at least wait until she’s recovered."
Balthazar gritted his teeth, mumbling to himself. Clearly, he had already decided not to care about her anymore, treating her just like an ordinary escort. Yet, for some reason, knowing that she had returned home made him curious about what she was doing.
Of course, she still ignored his warnings.
Balthazar didn’t understand why he was so angry. He just found himself pulling out his phone and making a call. At the same moment, the landline phone in the villa’s living room rang. Selena dropped her cloth and rushed over to answer it.
"Hello, the homeowner is not in right now. Please call back later."
Her sweet voice, like honey, startled Balthazar for a few seconds. Normally, when talking to her, how had he not noticed her voice was so beautiful?
"Ahem… It’s me."
Hearing Balthazar’s voice, Selena was slightly surprised and asked: "Is there something you need from me?"
Was he going to ask her to cook again? Hmph, she had no intention of cooking for someone as wasteful as him. The dishes she made last time had been stored in the fridge, and she planned to eat them the next day. But no, she ended up with a fever and in the hospital, and had to throw everything away.
Growing up in poverty, Selena despised waste, especially by someone like Balthazar.
On the other end, Balthazar seemed to sense the unwelcoming tone in Selena's voice. The vein on his temple throbbed.
Does this woman even understand her responsibilities as an escort?
"I called to remind you. I’ve hired someone to clean the house every day. Did they come today?"
In truth, no one had come to the villa today. He just wanted to see how Selena would react.
Sure enough, through the camera, he saw Selena looking around nervously before answering:
"Y-yes, she just came and finished cleaning, haha…"
Balthazar: …
Look at her guilty face. He really wanted to let her know that all her lies had been caught on camera, just to see how she’d handle it.
"Is that so? I’d like lunch today. Make a few dishes and bring them to the W building for me."
"Bring it to your office?"
Selena’s voice suddenly shot up, making Balthazar suspicious.
"What’s wrong? Can’t do it?"
Selena quickly collected herself and responded: "Of course, I can."
She was looking for an opportunity to publicly appear by his side anyway. If the news got out, it would be perfect. However, Balthazar’s next words instantly shattered her hopes.
"Just drop it off downstairs. My assistant will bring it up."
Of course, Selena’s face fell, and her shoulders slumped in disappointment. This reaction did not escape Balthazar's attention, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
"Just a moment ago, so energetic, now like a dead fish. Women really do change quickly."
After that, Balthazar hung up and went back to work, though his gaze occasionally flickered to the surveillance camera.
He saw that after cleaning up, Selena locked herself in her room and didn’t come out. Since there was no camera in her room, Balthazar decided to stop watching and focused on his work.
Meanwhile, Selena prepared an LED light, a camera, and an iPad, ready to conduct her first live stream.
She had wanted to invest money into Kola but couldn’t find a suitable reason, so the only way left was to become a streamer on the platform herself.
She had a secret that not even her family knew: she loved singing and had a beautiful voice. Growing up poor, she never revealed this passion to her parents. Whenever she herded ducks and buffalo, they became her unwitting audience.
Later, when she reached heaven and became the one hundred and fiftieth lover of the supreme god, she used this talent to win his favor and successfully gained his attention.
Selena’s livestream room was new, so there were hardly any viewers. The cover image was rather plain, and she had concealed her face, showing only her slender neck and delicate shoulders, so a few people clicked in and then left.
Selena wasn’t in a hurry. She poured herself a glass of milk, turned on some music, and began to sing.
