Wyn checks
Meredith's POV:
No, I am not in the mood to do anything. Peraps Dixon knew he did me wrong too. He kept to himself too. He knows what he did.
I might have slept again. This is all the beer's fault. I wonder what time it is. The blinding sunlight hitting my face is followed by a harsh, stinging like hell smack on my ass as I lay face down, sleeping in bed. Shocked awake by the brutality of it, I yelp like a wounded puppy. "What the...?"
“Get up right now!” Wyn is in my room, yelling at me like a moronic commander herding soldiers of fortune. She's in her hostile mood.
“I’m sleeping!” I mumble as another harsh slap catches my backside, her palm hits my flesh. I scream at the impact I know will leave a mark this time and turn harshly to glare at one dickhead who thinks she has a right to sodding hit me.
“Wyn, this is not funny!” I jump up, turning rapidly to sit in bed, rubbing my butt.
“Don’t what the fuck me, young lady! Your brother called me and told me what happened and how you locked yourself here acting like your world is about to end! Do you know I have to cancel Pilates and Anastasia Knight wouldn't stop calling me. The bitch wants advice on what she'd do to her awfully smitten son and I have a problem with my leading lady!"
I want to laugh, but never in her face.Wyn is in fierce mode, riling my temper as we glare coldly at one another. That fiery standoff between two equally matched souls; well, she’s about a thousand times scarier than I could ever be and ten years older. I give up and fall back to the bed. "This is why I don't talk to you and Dixon! You son of a match stick! How dare you!!" I spit out accusingly, but Wyn only glares harder, that tiny crazy twitch of her left eyebrow that signals she is like sixty-two percent of the way to complete psychotic break, and maybe I should reel it back a little if I want to live to see tomorrow.
“Leave Dixon out, I want to know what's the problem.”
She then grabs me by the naked ankle, and hauls me off the bed ungracefully, so I fall into a heap on the floor with a massive yelp and huge thud that reverberates through my entire body. I scream.
“Now get your ass up I brought icecream because that is how women make women chat."
“You know, thank God, you are never a mother!” I crawl to my feet, using the bed as leverage, and come to face her as she stalks back, holding an array of mismatched clothing.
“I know, right? I am thankful too. Because if I was your mother----I am on my way to kill the man who caused you this,” She smirks my way, the anger softening, and I eye roll at her. This is nothing new between us; I used to act like this while she was teaching me how to become a woman of class. The funny thing is, I always thought that her work ends there. After she gets paid for a job well done, she will go away. But that did not happen. She became a friend, family is we hang around a lot.
“My mom will never throw me on the floor.” I pout, picking up the sweats and pulling them on over my underwear lazily, knowing that defiance is futile, and if I attempt to get back in bed, she will have no qualms about throwing a bucket of water over me.
“I’ll break your nose if you tell on me, then I’ll burn all your choo's” Wyn warns me as she waits for me to finish.
“I would probably love you more if you didn’t think violence was acceptable in a sisterly relationship." I pull on the T-shirt over my tank top and slide the slippers on obediently.
“Where’s the fun in that? Now move. Don’t make me wait. I already told Dixon he's not allowed in the living room. Poor kid is scared.” She commands, now crossing her arms across her T-shirt-clad, yet still perky, bust. She’s still a beauty for an old broad getting on in life and close to retirement age.
“What’s new, and what’s the matter? Has Gustav given you another assignment? And by assignment--- I mean me?” I grin as Wyn hits me with an unamused glare.
“Funny. Don’t think you can sass me because you've come this far. You, young lady, have a lot of explaining to do, and I am not leaving until I get some.” She motions me to move first, then shoves me hard from behind through the bedroom door when we get to it. I trip and throw her a furious squint. “Besides, I don't work for Gustav. I came here because I care.”
I shrug her hands off my shoulders with attitude. Warming up to her words.
“In case you want to know, this is not how caring is done.” I sarcastically grumble, but she ignores me. She was watching me like a hawk. I can feel her eyes piercing my back.
“Whoa, you can you calm the fuck down. I’m not going anywhere..."
“I’m sorry, did you say something?” She smirks, so I poke her in the face. Right in the cheek. I was aiming for an eye, but she moves at the last second and slaps my hand away.
I am a little more alert than I was a while ago. Sleep has helped. Indeed, the table filled with chips and soda and I knew she is not stupid to let the icecream melt in the living room and no Dixon in sight. I coulldn't help but be amused how she put a thought in this. Impressive because there's no alcohol indeed. Maybe Dixon gave her a little insight too.
“Our topic today is about men.” Wyn nods. Proceeding to tell me about her days of sleeping around when she was pining for her right one. We both grin at each other and dive in. "I wish we don't have to do this. Your job was clear." She seems alarmed, resigned to the fact this isn’t new to her.
I fall silent for a moment as we tuck into the food. I’m all too aware that we’re just delaying things. No one wants to burst this happy pretend bubble that we are all okay and ask me anything. Even Wyn has given the overbearing asshole act a moment of respite and seems wary about pushing me. I glance nervously at her, head down as she work on her chips. I realize the only way to get this over and done with is to rip it off, like a Band-Aid.
“I am planning to lie low… For a while anyway. I promise I’ll be better after I get over it. I will tell Gustav.” I keep my eyes averted as tears smart in the depths, willing myself not to break, and try to keep a straight face.
“Why?” She cuts in. “Just because you don't have to act now that you like him?.” The thing about Wyn is this, her tongue is always too sharp.
“It’s more complicated than that.” I sigh.
“So, talk.” Wyn points her chip bag at me and lifts her eyebrow with a sternly fierce expression.
“I can’t, not yet.” It’s not that I don’t want to tell her It’s just I never really have thought about it myself.
“What can I do?” She cuts in.
“Be patient with me.” I hate how a fresh tear rolls down my cheek, and I jump nervously when Wyn stands up abruptly and marches towards me like a woman on a mission. I recoil. A moment of hesitant fear washes over me that she may beat me, then jump when she wraps herself around me in an awkward bear hug. Leaning over the top of me and buries her face in my messy hair.
I will get through this, and I will finish the job. A lot is at stake at here. I have no choice. I need to be a better person for those that I love. For Dixon. Better and tougher than I alreadt am. I need to make amends with that weaks spot I have. Wynona let's go of me, looks me dead in the eye and the worry and pity was gone. I was scared how fast she could switch from one character to another.
"I will let you be weak today, but promise me, you wil grab your shit tomorrow. Gustav will not accept excuses. You have Conrad where we want him to be. I understand what you feel. Trust me, I was in your shoe once. You have to choose, Meredith."
"Choose what?" I was confused.
"Your ass and Dixon's or his."
No question there. Definitely his.
