Chapter 238 Her Location
"She didn't tell you yet, did she?" I ask quietly. My whole body stills as I look out into the night. I'm not seeing anything, my mind is too busy chastising me for breaking Charlie's confidence.
"Tell me what?" There is suspicion in his voice, and I guess that is to be expected.
"Jay's been raping her. He got her pregnant over a year ago. He took her to the clinic and forced her to get an abortion," I swallow thickly.
I hear multiple gasps from the other end. These men all care about Charlie, and each one of them are shocked to hear about this.
"Someone got ahold of the paperwork and made copies, spreading it across campus, calling her a slut... I took her to the admin building and demanded they take them down. They promised they would, and then I brought her home..." I mumble, still staring out into space, playing the memories out in my head.
"What happened next?" The demand is keeping me on track, only...
I blush; not really sure I want to tell him what happened next. That was private! I'm just going to skip that part.
"Uh... Well, we were in bed and I got a text from the bitch who's been harassing her. Her name is Melissa. I decided I was sick of her harassing Charlie and needed to deal with the problem," I snarled.
"Okay, what did you do?" Rick's voice is steady, bringing me back from my rage.
"I went to meet her out by the old water tower. She wasn't there. I came back; Charlie's door was open. She wasn't in bed... There was a syringe on the bed side table. I called the cops, and my dad showed up," I ramble giving him the short version.
"Shit!" I hear Grant grumble under his breath.
I agree with the sentiment.
"He told me to leave it alone, that I didn't know what was going on. And I said wasn't going to. I was going to find my girlfriend whether he wanted me to or not. Then the actual cops showed up, they arrested Dad. He's in interrogation right now, but he's got a lawyer and not saying a damn thing..." I finished.
"Okay, and you told Rick you thought it was Jay?" a vaguely familiar voice came on.
"Yes. I think he somehow showed up right when I left. I'm pretty sure Melissa was just a fucking distraction," I snarl. "She told me to meet her a whole fucking half hour away just to get me away from Charlie!"
"We'll deal with her later," anther voice promises. "Don't worry, Trent. They will all get what is coming to them."
I hear a grunt.
"Jeff?" Rick's voice comes out.
"Yeah, I got his vehicle registration. Ah! There he is," Jeff makes a triumphant noise, much like a predator stalking his prey. "It seems he left Echo Ridge Pass in the morning," he mumbles.
"What's going on?" I demand.
"Just traffic cameras. Nothing yet. It looks like he showed up around campus around lunch time... Switching to the camera outside Charlie's apartment. Okay, I see you leaving, and only minutes later he moves in. He doesn't stay long... He's got her in a blanket and tosses her in the back... Then he leaves."
"Is that it?" I swallow. Not that I'm surprised. I didn't figure he'd stick around very long, but I was kinda hoping for more...
"Nope. He's headed East. Fuck. Looks like he ended up in the boondocks. Gimme a sec," Jeff grumbles. Then he snorts. "Got 'em. Just don't ask how."
"Never do," Rick snorts. "Anything?"
"Yeah, it looks like he's parked at the same damn hotel Josie was at with James," Jeff growls.
"FUCK!" come a chorus of male voices.
"Where the hell is that?" I demand.
"Well, from your position, it will take you about three hours to get there if you leave now," Jeff states.
"Can you send me the address?" I demand, getting the attention of one of the cops.
"Sending it to you now!" Jeff assures me.
I hang up and look at the officer. "I found out where she is. But she's three hours away. I gotta go!"
The officer doesn't ask questions. "Give me the address and I'll get the cops in that area to meet you there."
My phone buzzes with the information I need, and I write it down on a paper for Officer Torez, then rush out to my truck about to beat the all-time land speed record... Hopefully without getting pulled over in the process!
