Chapter 218 Old Friends
I was surprised to see his best friend and PI, Jeff, here. He looks nothing like the chef Jeff. They are completely different, which is good because then no one will get them confused.
Our chef has dark hair, blue sparkly eyes, and pretty muscular (he tends to borrow Rick's weight room in the early morning to keep his body the way he likes it) and tends to flirt a lot. Not to mention he's just 2 years older than me (which might be why Trent looks so jealous anytime he flirts with me).
The other Jeff Andrews, (maybe I should refer to him as Andrews in my mind) is lean, tall, has blond hair and dark brown eyes... And is the same age as Rick. He has mad hacking skills that probably saved Josie's life, and he's very down to earth.
"Charlie, I've been looking forward to meeting you. And you must be Trent! I'm so glad you are here for her," he said shaking Trent's hand.
I wasn't surprised he knew exactly who he was on sight. He probably has a profile of everyone my family is associated with.
"It's good you're here, Jeff. Rick has been talking about how excited he is to have his best friend back in town," I smiled up at the tall man.
To be honest, this is the first time I've met him in person. He doesn't live in California. He lives in Arizona but came up to celebrate Rick and Josie's baby girl.
I was so happy when Hailey showed up. She came right up to me and pulled me into one of her 'grandma hugs' she is so good at. "Oh, Charlie! It is so good to see you!" She cooed, like I hadn't just left a week ago. "I've got a bag of cookies for you to take back with you in my car! Don't let me leave without giving them to you!" she instructed.
"Oh, Hailey, you are a life saver! And I missed you," I admitted. "I already went through all the cookies you sent with me up to school," I chuckled.
When she pulled back her eyes went right to Trent. "Oh, and who is this young man?" she says giving him that knowing smile.
"Hailey, this is Trent Miller, my boyfriend," I blush.
"Thank goodness! At least one of you girls knows how to pick a boy!" Hailey chattered before pulling him into a hug too. "You be good to my girl, won't you?"
"I plan on it! She's too good to let go," Trent beamed at the older woman like he'd known her his whole life.
"I like him already! I approve! Let me know went the wedding is dear, and I'll have the flowers all ready for you," she teased with a wink.
"HAILEY!" I squeal, complete red in the face.
But Trent just chuckles, wraps his arm around my waist pulling me closer and winks. "You'll be top of the list if I can have a few of Charlie's cookies."
"I'll make a whole new batch for you to take back!" Hailey promised before she spotted Josie and scurried across the room to my sister.
"C'mon Angel, I wanna dance," Trent said leading me into the back entrance of the ballroom off the side of the patio.
Rick had it set up for the teenagers who wanted to dance. He even hired a DJ, and unsurprisingly, it's completely full, mostly of high schoolers, but I see some of the college student's that are my age in here too.
Really, the only ones who aren't here are Braxton and Liv. I tried to call her this morning, but Braxton shut it down and took her phone. Now I'm really worried about her. Not to mention I'm pissed off at Braxton.
At some point, I have to get Liv alone and tell her what Trent and I found out about his dad... which wasn't much other than his name is on a contract connected to hers. I have no idea what he is planning on doing with my sister, but I refuse to let anything happen to her.
Why the hell is Liv even with an asshole like that? He's too damn controlling! She should be able to come home to her family if she wants to.
Trent pulls me into his arms with the heavy bass thumping in the background. I'm not really a good dancer... That would be Josie. I've never been coordinated, but I'm not too clumsy.
"Uh, Tent... I don't know how to dance," I say over the music.
"Don't worry, Angel. I've got you," he spoke into my ear as he pulled me into his arms.
Mostly Trent just swayed with me in his arms like it's a slow song... which is most definitely is not, and I'm okay with that.
