Chapter 72 Couldn’t Resist
Vince took his seat after freshening at the head of the house, his presence dominating the air as I was beside him, focused entirely on my husband.
He sat beside me and while upholding a monotonous look, he rested his firmly, possessively, over my thigh, hitching my breaths.
My back straightened, glancing at him with raised brows.
The weight of his palm was warm, and undeniably thrilling that sent a spark down to my very core.
“Vince?” I called him quietly. The heat of his palm surging into my skin.
“What?” He acted oblivious.
Arden didn't sit immediately, he stood, his gaze lingering on the way Vince’s hand moved, not to his own glass, but to my thigh and his jaw clenched.
I could feel my cheeks burning to fathom that Arden saw and was not pleased.
But, that didn’t stop Vince.
“So, Arden, ” Vince began in a casual tone, taking a bite of his food while sliding his hand to my inner thigh, turning my senses in a haze.
“You’re finally back after all these years. Any idea from where you intend to begin cleaning?”
“By cleaning the company from inside first. They accountant, every manager, everyone who betrayed will pay.” He replied nonchalantly, eyes affixed on the food.
“I see. Let me know if you need my help with anything.”
Vince gave my thigh a squeeze, absolutely determined to make me lose my mind. A claim that made it impossible to focus on the food.
I gasped audibly, I barely managed to swallow a bite. My face was flushed with a crimson shade, not daring to lift my eyes due to shame.
My fork clattered against the crockery, a distinctive note in the quiet room.
Arden stopped mid-bite.
His eyes, sharp, darted from Vince’s face to where his hand was hidden beneath the tablecloth, getting a vague idea.
He saw the way I stiffened, the way my breath hitched, while a cold, knowing smirk played on Vince’s lips. Raising his brows at me, he spared a glance.
“You look lost, Alyssa.”
“I.. I am fine.”
Mumbling, I picked the fork and forced the bite, curling my toes when he pinched and I shut my legs close.
“I’ve been busy,” Arden said in a mocking tone, averting his gaze instantly, “But I see you two have been keeping quite occupied yourselves.”
“We have,” Vince replied, his tone chillingly polite, acting like nothing happened.
He leaned in closer to me, his breath warm against my ear, implanting a spellbinding kiss to my temples.
I felt utterly exposed. I shifted, trying to pull away, but Vince’s hand tightened, holding me steady in his orbit, sucking his amusement from the circles that were pumping my blood.
“Everything alright, darling?” Vince asked, his eyes dancing with a mix of amusement, taking a slow, teasing bite of his food.
“Fine,” I choked out, desperately trying to keep my composure while my heart pounded against my ribcage.
“Just… a bit overwhelmed. It’s been a long day.” I let out a feeble smile.
Arden watched us, his grip tightening on his glass, giving us a glare from time to time and I was utterly baffled why. Well, he must be awkward. He was a disciplined man after all.
But, so was Vince. I wonder what ghost possessed him tonight.
The dinner didn’t last long after that. Without exchanging further talks or staying, Arden left.
The second the doors clicked shut. I, who was still embarrassed, with my heart thumping madly, turned to him and hit his chest.
“What that hell was that, Vince!?”
“What was what?”
Vince walked towards me, his gaze darkening, a smirk spreading on his lips with each step he took forward.
A satisfactory shiver went down my spine, I stood still, anticipating the next movement.
He simply wrapped me up in his protective arms, his lips capturing my neck in a possessive, burning lock, kissing me intensity.
I buried my fingers in his hair, the embarrassment of the night, the way Arden had seen me, melting away under the heat of Vince’s touch.
“V-Vince?” I moaned out his name, my back arching, pressing myself harder into him as he formed a mark on my neck, swaying me in the beat of his heart.
“Fuck… you drive me insane.” He growled and without a warning, lifted me up.
He carried me upstairs, his steps hurried and uncontrolled.
The world narrowed down to the space between us, a desperate reclamation of each other.
“Seems like you are eager.” I giggled when he threw me on the bed, barely bothering to lock the door and shifted on top of me.
He began to kiss me passionately, turning my mind in a beautiful haze while removing his shirt and sliding his large palm under mine, capturing my skin with his beautifully.
“Oh Darling.” He smirked darkly, resting his forehead against mine.
“You were all that was on my mind. I don’t think I can resist you any longer.”
A smirk came to my lips as well, biting his earlobe, “Who is telling you to resist either?”
But hours later, the room was silent after our euphoric time. I was draped in his arms. Finding my world there.
Vince was asleep, his breathing deep, his arm across my waist, pressing me firmly into his comforting warmth.
My eyes were staring outside the window, at the distant lights, my hand pressed over his, wanting to be imprisoned in his proximity only.
But, fortunately for me, my mind wasn't on the house, or the dinner, or even the man sleeping in my bed.
It was back to the day the bottom fell out of my world, the day I had lost it all.
‘I couldn’t believe how vacuous I used to be.’
The silence of the room began to feel like the silence of that final, devastating afternoon years ago.
I didn't realize I was crying until a single, hot tear traced a path down my cheek. I wasn't just a wife or a girl begging for love anymore.
I was a wife who was forced to confront the days of her stupidity where I bargained my own dignity for a crumb of Arden’s attention.
