Chapter 37 Warning Astrid
Inclined on the seat with a dangerous smirk lingering on my lips, I was in Astrid’s office with her infuriated tone coming from outside.
Fright coating her resonance to find her entangled in a case, ruining her reputation that merely widened my smirk.
“How can this happen? This is the most crucial moment for us, how can he file a defamation case!? It will affect him too! How-”
Left mid-sentence, her eyes fell on me.
Closing the door, she called me cautiously, “Vince,”
Resting my one leg over the other dominantly, I observed her tense form and remarked.
“Good Morning, Astrid, you look quite… perturbed. What happened?”
“You-” Her jaw clenched, approaching me furiously, slamming her hand on the table.
“You sued us and filed a defamation case too? Well aware this could affect your reputation too. We are business partners,”
“We were, Astrid. Not anymore. Check your emails and files first. I couldn’t care less about it,” I corrected her strictly, rolling my eyes.
Agitated at my enunciation, she swallowed hard, completely against this. Not only did she lose me, she lost our partnership too.
“You- you can’t do this to us. It will affect you too-”
“It also affected me too when another woman tried to smear my ‘wife’s’ respect,” I growled, rising from my seat that made her flinch.
“How come I am the other woman?” Making a crying face, she asked in broken tone.
“Because the woman you humiliated is my wife. The only woman now. You are nowhere, Astrid,”
“She came between us, she took you away from me. How could you do this to me, Vince?”
To her whimpering, I couldn’t care less about it. It didn’t affect me just like she didn’t think twice about Alyssa before doing this.
“I could ask you the same. You are worrying about your work but didn’t think twice before creating such a drama at Alyssa’s,” I scoffed, glaring at her.
“Where was the worry then? Didn’t she have an image too?”
“That slut deserved-”
“Enough, Astrid!”
“V-Vince?”
“This is my first and final warning.”
Hovering over her, startling her at my level of fury, I pointed my finger contemptuously at her, threatening her openly.
“Do not come near Alyssa again else I will take drastic measures and you won’t be able to recover the loss next time,”
With a tear rolling down, she emitted a sob, “Do you love her… this much?”
Rolling my eyes, I straightened my back, setting my collar.
“It’s not about love, Alyssa. It’s about dignity. I won’t be able to face myself if this world defiled her and I sit back and let it happen,”
Lowering her head in dejection, she had no reply as I turned to leave with a determined enunciation.
“This world won’t hurt what is precious to me again.”
After giving Alyssa a fair warning, I left her workplace.
This should be enough for them.
They wouldn’t dare to hurt what is mine again.
They won’t shatter her heart again.
And she would end up trusting me blindly- Exactly what I wanted.
After engraving my terror in them and being certain no one would trouble my bride again, exhausted from the day, I returned home.
Humming to myself, I got out and saw Alyssa was waiting for me at the entrance.
Strangely, it felt good.
“Vince!” Shouting, she rushed to me worriedly.
Ah, this woman. One perturbation won’t end and she finds another. Maybe her and tribulations had a special connection.
Amused, I rested my one hand in my pocket and ruffled her hair with the other.
“Wow. Were you waiting for me? Did you miss me that much?”
Pouting adorably, she held my wrist, shaking her head, “No, dammit, the news!”
Well aware what she was referring to yet I acted oblivious and leaned closer.
“What about the news?”
Shifting closer, she whispered to me.
“They say you have publicly announced who will dare to disgrace your wife won’t only face a defamation case but you will make them pay yourself,”
Remaining nonchalant, I shrugged my shoulders so she won’t think of it as an ordeal or get unsettled due to my actions.
“Yeah, it’s true. I warned them publicly, and saved us all the trouble now. They will stay in their limits now,”
Her mouth gaped, staring at me in disbelief. The hint of distress flicker, she didn’t expect me to go this far.
“What? Did you expect me to knock on everyone’s door and threaten them? Come on, I am not that much of a madman,” I cracked a joke.
Wallowing in her shock, my hand gradually led down from her head to her shoulder.
Holding a strand of her hair between my fingers, caressing it gently to eradicate any sign of discomfort.
To my content, it worked. Shyly lowering her gaze, she tugged the strand I held behind her ear, sootheness brimming on her features.
“Will you… truly fight everyone for me? Everyone who will question our bond?”
To her innocent question, I had my reply ready, from the start.
“Yes,”
I chuckled, “You are my wife after all. If I won’t fight for you, who else will?”
Giving her shoulder a playful pat to not be vexed, I walked forward to go inside with a faint smile plastered on my features.
“Come on, let’s go and decide on the lie quickly before Mama throws her questions at me-”
But, before I could enter, she remained still and held my cuff innocently. Glancing over my shoulder, she was staring at me in… mesmerization?
“Vince,”
“Hmm?”
Without a warning, she wrapped her both hands around my arm, resting her weight upon me to indicate her trust over me had grown inexplicably.
My beats pulsated, staring at the endearing woman clinging onto me, giving butterflies to my stomach.
“Thank you,”
Smiling widely when I was getting closer to my purpose, I pinched her cheek with my other hand, reassuring her to not be tense when ‘I’ am here.
“I have told you, do not be vexed when I am here, Alyssa. Relax and focus on the path ahead. Okay?” I whispered sincerely.
With her eyes shining, she grinned and nodded delightfully, “Mhm!”
