Chapter 35 Handle It Myself
VINCE’S POV:-
Twirling the rose in my hands, whistling faintly to myself while waiting for Alyssa who was nowhere to be found, deepening my frown.
‘Is she not going to come because of her fear of people? Is she always going to live her life in dread? How disappointing,’
As time passed and she didn’t arrive nor picked her call, testing my patience.
Gritting my teeth, I was impatiently tapping my foot on the ground, throwing the single rose on the table when she was an hour late.
When there was no sign of her arrival, I called home, “Hello?”
“Is Alyssa home?”
“Yes, Sir,”
Cutting the call in frustration, I cursed under my breath, “Dammit,”
Extreme disappointment brimmed in my heart that after my endless endeavors of convincing her, she ended up prioritizing this world over our comfort.
With a never-ending frown, I entered our home, and left the rose back at the restaurant angrily. When I came, I saw Mom.
“Oh, hey, Vince,”
“Hey Mom, is Alyssa in her room?”
“Yeah… she rushed in and hasn’t come out yet,” She shrugged.
“Okay,”
“Is everything alright? She didn’t look good,”
“I will check on her,”
Not wanting to worry her, I passed her a feeble smile and went straight to my- our room.
Barging inside with a grimace, I growled, “Alyssa, I had been waiting for you for an hour-”
… Only to find Alyssa only in a towel, sitting on the bed with her head hanging low accompanied by undesirable fresh tears.
“Alyssa?”
Calling her hesitantly, I closed the door, inspecting her further as she was sobbing silently to herself.
Her tears softened me immediately, I sat beside her, bringing my hand to hold her bare shoulder but was unsure.
Curling my hand in a powerless fist, I brought it back, tilting my head to get a better glimpse of her puffy face.
“What happened? Why are you crying? Is everything alright?”
Wiping her eyes, she looked back at me, “... Did you see my car?”
“No.” It clicked me as I gasped, “Did you get into an accident?!’
Panicking, I held her arm, checking her body instinctively, worry coated my sapphire eyes.
“Are- Are you okay? Are you hurt? How-”
Yanking her arm back, she lowered her head more, lips quivering with tears glistening. Making a rigid fist, she sniffled, trying not to cry yet a wail escaped her lips.
“Astrid wrote ‘whore’ on it, created a scene in my own office, called me a bitch and threw her drink on me… I had enough adventure for today.”
Stunned, my mouth was left hanging when Astrid fell this much to defile her like this.
“Surely, it is only a source of indulgence for you but I am paying for your stupid lie, Vince, look what she did,”
Wiping her red eyes roughly, she turned to me, my chest constricted by her misery. What did she do to deserve that?
Why give her so much pain?
“They think I am a homewrecker and humiliate me here and there…” She cried, unable to carry the ache anymore and rested her head on my shoulder.
I immediately wrapped my hand around her, encasing her in my embrace protectively with my blood boiling.
“I am so sick of it, it feels horrible, Vince, I don’t want to go out anymore,”
An unwanted sting traveled in me, losing my composure when Alyssa cried. Not the first time I heard her sobbing yet this time it pierced me. It infuriated me.
How dare she?
How dare they take advantage of my silence?
Not anymore.
Enough is enough.
With my grip unknowingly tightening, I hissed, “Who else was there?”
“Just Astrid but it won’t be long everyday someone will be there just to disgrace me in my own office.” She whispered.
Holding the lapel of my coat, shivering in apprehension as her day was ruined by stupid people once again.
Just how much these people love tormenting her?
“And the security? They let someone yell and do this to their Boss’ car… huh?” I questioned strictly.
“...What are you trying to say?”
“I am saying that everyone is taking advantage of your leniency and silence. All because you are weak at the moment, they think they can do whatever the fuck they want,” I enunciated dominantly.
From her father to my ex, everyone was just using her as a punching bag and it was a stain on my dignity.
I married to save her, not to ruin her life further and it was my responsibility to shelter my wife’s respect.
I will make them pay.
“Or maybe they think I am fucking shameless or will stay silent. How gauche,” I muttered, refusing to let her go or shift away from my proximity.
“How many mouths will you shut, Vince? How many people will you stop?” She asked innocently.
I replied sincerely, “Everyone.”
Holding her firmly, I allowed her to snuggle closer, moving my fingers from her shoulder to her elbow, tracing it gently in order to eradicate her distress.
“For my wife’s respect, if I have to fight this whole world, I will, proudly,”
“What’s the point of it? They will continue hurting me…”
It was understandable, since the beginning, people around us were only disgracing her using terrible means. Life was challenging her constantly.
But that was the very reason I married her- to obliterate that.
Pulling away slightly, I held both of her hands in mine and kissed them.
“I am sorry for not… taking this seriously. But, from now on, I will. Don’t worry, there won’t be a soul to cause you pain anymore, I promise,”
“What will you do, Vince?”
Her eyes twinkled, gripping my hands with all her strength. Probably question why I would go that far for her but for once she should know.
She is my wife, my obligation, I must.
I smirked, darkly, “They called me the cold businessman, right? I will show them how cold this man could actually get.”
Swallowing hard, she could feel the wickedness dripping as I eventually let go of her, standing up while setting my cuffs.
“My wife’s tears and dignity is no laughing matter. You relax, I will handle it ‘personally’ from now on.”
“Really…?”
“Yes,”
Her glimmering eyes were locked on me, a smallest glimpse of assurance evoked in her heart for me. Smirking at her slightest faith, I declared before going to freshen up.
“Got a complaint? Give me the first call and I will deal with it, okay? I am here for you, I will protect you from every harm, Alyssa,”
