Chapter 27 Invisible
Staggered at Vince’s unforeseen wrath, my steps stumbled out of fear, pressing myself against his car, my throat dried.
Vince hit Ken so harshly, drawing blood while announcing our wedding, earning a series of gasps from everyone.
Tensing at the look, uncaring of the talks anymore, his features hardened, pointing his finger contemptuously at Ken.
“Yes, she left you for ‘me’. And why wouldn’t she? What in that fucking loser?”
Covering my mouth, I was left flabbergasted when he embraced the petty lies created by all proudly, holding his head high in might.
“Vince-!” Sadie snarled, rushing to hold Ken, glaring at him and opened her mouth to curse.
“That fucking bit–”
Vince merely pointed his finger warningly at her, sending a death-glare to not continue.
“Shut the fuck up, Sadie, take your goddamn husband and vanish from our sights,”
Startled by the scandal brimming rapidly, Astrid stepped forth with her eyes filled with tears, voice cracking a little.
“S-So… it was true?”
I thought he would soften at her call.
He didn’t.
Upholding the charade, blowing on his red knuckle, he didn’t bother to glance at Astrid and responded in an arduous resonance.
“Yes, we had an affair, I am cheating on you too, Astrid. I married Alyssa so she could be all mine. And now she is MY WIFE.”
His wife….
My heart skipped a beat at the announcement. Unsure where he was leading it, staring at the man standing as support.
Inducing a strange feeling in my core, to find him before me as a shield in a way no one was, a flicker flared in my chest.
So that’s how being protected feels like? I thought in mesmerization.
“What the fuck does any of you going to do about it huh?!” Vince openly challenged everyone, glaring at them.
Now their mouths were sealed. When I was alone, they used the roughest statements to shatter me but when Vince warned.
None of them dared to step forth.
“How could you, Vince…?” Tears filled Astrid’s eyes who tried to come near me to hit me probably.
“That bitch, she must-”
Tensing my shoulder, I was about to step back but Vince grabbed her arm, scowling at her.
“Don’t. Don’t you dare, Astrid,”
Yanking her back and standing beside me again to not let anyone come near me, staying beside me since the start.
“You can’t do this to me, Vince… Does- Does our engagement mean nothing to you? You said we will-”
“We won’t. Not anymore," he declared coldly.
Lifting my twinkling gaze, my gaze chained to him, compelled to notice how immaculate he looked.
Willing to fight them for my sake.
“No- no, She must have said something. What did she do-”
“I approached her first, I offered to marry her. She caught my eye, therefore, mine.” He smirked darkly in the end.
My eyes went wide. For a heartbeat, that statement sounded like a sick truth but why would he? Right?
My heart pounded abnormally, anxiously twirling my finger around my dress as those words ignited a questionable flame.
It felt like he meant those words.
Must be my imagination.
“And now that fact is lucid enough for you all, better keep this mouth shut before I do because one wrong sentence and all of you will regret it,”
Enunciating, ensuring none of them will interfere again, to display us as ‘ONE’, he placed his hand over my shoulder.
Boosting my confidence, my tears halted, impotent to part my eyes from his as he opened the door of the car.
“Let’s go to ‘our’ home, Alyssa,”
“Mhm,”
Nodding innocently, after creating a drama, we returned to ‘our’ home.
On the way, I could feel my beats magnifying, sweat collecting in my palm, breaths hastening at the imagination of the outrage that was about to break.
Vince looked so infuriated and dominant that I failed to utter a single resonance on the way.
When he entered, he roughly threw his waistcoat furiously on the couch, cursing loudly, fingers raked through his locks to make them messy.
“Tsk, those assholes, they ruined our dinner!”
“Why…” I gulped, uncertain, “Why did you say-”
He stopped right before me, holding my chin in a stern grip. My body numbed at the assertiveness shining in his eyes.
“Are you not my wife?” He asked strictly.
Shivering, I nodded, “Y-Yes, I am,”
“Then what makes you think I watch you being humiliated before the whole crowd? Do you consider me shameless?”
His thumb went deeper under my chin, crawling a tingle under my fingernails.
His eyes narrowed, transparent discontent, jaw clenching which made me tense.
I hadn’t seen him like this before.
But I was merely vexed about him, not myself.
“N-No, I didn’t mean it like this.. I-I am just worried that everyone knows now..”
“What’s the shame in hiding?” He scoffed, pulling away gradually, opening another button of his shirt.
“You w-wanted to hide-”
“I never said that.” He sighed.
Noticing my quivering state, he took a few deep breaths to soothe his lava and attempted to respond in a softened voice.
“I just had some errands and wanted you to stay at Uncle's for the time being. I didn't marry to hide nor am I afraid of anyone or anything,”
“But now they will think the rumors are true…” I mumbled.
“Things are going to worse, they will do the worse now,”
“If we hadn’t accepted it, they would have created rumors ten times worse than the current ones and you know it,”
“But-”
“They were going to do what will destroy you mentally," Vince muttered, reminding of the unbearable reality.
He wasn’t wrong honestly. They were truly going to make it unbearable at some point for me.
Losing my mind, ability to think, my voice broke, afraid to confront further allegations and drama, stealing my peace once again.
“Won’t they do it now? What will I do now? Who will help me-”
But, displeased with my mindless statement, which I accidentally slipped, Vince lost his composure and snapped.
“Am I invisible, Alyssa!?”
