Chapter 25 Degradation
To my utter discontent, I saw Ken there with a bunch of people, holding his glass high to make a toast along with Sadie.
Glaring at the couple, an abrupt rage burst in my chest when they were celebrating their marriage as if it was the most beautiful moment of their lives.
“Ignore them, let’s have our dinner and leave quietly. Let’s not create unnecessary scene,”
“Yeah, you are right. Why ruin our mood for them,”
As I was glaring at them, losing my composure, hating how they were grinning, kissing each other- it pierced my heart.
Vince noticed the wretchedness and asked softly, “Does it hurt?”
“A lot. How easy it was for him to move forward, to use a girl for his selfish desires, I growled, gritting my teeth but soon it was all vanquished.
Replaced with anguish, I lowered my head, voice breaking.
“It was my foolishness to love a man like him who was using me from the start,”
“Be grateful at least your eyes have opened now and you saw his real face else he would have continued to fool you,” Vince explained.
“Yeah, you are right…”
Inhaling sharply to not ruin my mood by his existence, I shook my head and mumbled with a cold smirk.
“At least I won’t slap you for that asshole,”
He couldn’t help but chuckle faintly.
“At least you understood that I was never wrong,”
“You never were, I was blind. And I am sorry for that,”
“It’s alright, I will forgive you when you slap him for breaking your heart one day,” He cracked a joke, causing me to chuckle a little.
“Sure, sure,”
“Um, Alyssa, I need to use the restroom. Will you be okay here or wait by the car?” He suggested sweetly.
“It’s alright, I won't leave without our dessert.”
“Okay, if you say so,”
Exchanging a feeble smile, he got up and left as I ate my food silently.
Glaring at them, I noticed another familiar figure that made my jaw drop and cover myself to avoid her.
ASTRID WAS THERE TOO!
Fuck.
I turned my head away, trying to hide from her as she was indulging their party too.
“Good thing you left her, I saw her. She was never meant for you,” Astrid chuckled, breaking my patience.
Unwillingly my eyes fell on the group that was laughing, indulging in the damn ‘party’ that was infuriating me by each passing second.
“Ah, my life had become beautiful after you entered my life, Sadie,” He laughed, kissing her cheeks, earning claps from everyone.
From the same people who used to cheer for our love too. Those hypocritical bastards. They were ‘his’ friends after all.
“Damn them,”
Curse them and this pathetic marriage. May it never be successful!
I prayed wholeheartedly, slamming my hand down unintentionally gaining attention that made their glance to the side.
“Huh?”
Shit!
They turned and saw me alone but noticed another plate on the table, indicating I wasn’t alone and they raised their brows.
“Oh, look, who is here,”
“Oh so that’s why Vince’s car is here, for you huh,” Sadie commented, checking the table, smirking at me.
Forming my lips in a thin line timidly, I averted my gaze, hoping to ignore them until Vince returned but they had other plans.
They came with the intention of destroying my evening.
“And then you say he is nothing,”
“Because it’s nothing!” I whisper-yelling.
The more I was attempting not to get attention, the more their gathering like some hungry wolves made people stare and whisper to each other.
“Nothing? Oh, please, she was having a damn affair with Vince.”
“Come on, Vince’s standards are not that low,” Astrid defended, folding her arms at her chest proudly.
“We will see. I mean, Just look at them, being on a romantic date, hand in hand too I saw that,” Ken added, sending a wicked glance in my direction.
My jaw dropped.
Did he know we were here from the start!?
Was he waiting for Vince to go away and grasp his chance to humiliate me?
“Enough!”
“Stop shouting and creating a damn scene.” They growled.
“We all know about your cheating. You left with Vince in the middle of night. What should one take it as?” Ken enunciated, loud enough for everyone to hear as a series of gasps went around.
“Don’t be ridiculous! Stop accusing us, dammit!”
Growling, I punched the table, pointing my finger at them to stop the illusory truth effect.
My lips started quivering at this point, strength being drained when all eyes were on us, listening carefully.
And I was losing terribly. They believed in Ken.
“Don’t use the situation to your advantage, Ken,” I warned, losing my posture when he had support while I stood alone.
“Oh, tell then me you didn’t leave with Vince at night,”
“Yes, I did, because you got Sadie pregnant!” I snarled, letting them know he was no saint but he yelled back.
“Don’t lie, dammit! You were desperate for Vince and started meeting him secretly and cheated on me,”
Gasping, my steps stumbled, pointing his finger contemptuously as my, he yelled at the hall, eliciting unbearable mortification in my soul.
“Not only she took her father’s money, she cheated on her husband and has set her eyes on a new target! SHE IS USING VINCE-”
When it grew intolerable, I ended up screaming agonizingly to stop destroying my life more than he did already.
“ENOUGH, DAMMIT!”
Throwing the glass at him with immeasurable ache collecting in my heart, I ran away from there to avoid the horrendous looks of the people.
