Chapter 28
“I’m not steppig any foot out of this fucking room without telling me what this is all about.” Ava said stubbornly. “You can’t keep getting me confused. Why do I have to follow you out? To where?” She asked while folding her hands across her chest.
“Don’t be stubborn, woman.” Luther replied. But Ava didn’t reply to him. “I thought to explain to you in the car but since you insist.”
“Yes, I do insist. Tell me what is going on.” She replied to him.
Rolling his eyes at her stubbornness, “well, it happened that my assistant is out of town and won’t be back so soon. I need an assistant for the meantime. And currently, I think you’re best qualified since you’re currently doing nothing..” He finally said.
“Me?” She asked, pointing to herself as if she didn’t hear him clearly in the first place.
“You heard me, you know.” He said. “I just need you to do some little stuff for me at the office. I can’t be without an assistant. Plus you’re more than qualified since you’re a graduate.” He said.
Ava could remember they never talked about her or her background. Whether she went to school or not. They have never had any deep conversation. So how did he get to know this much about her? She wondered.
“Excuse me, have you been doing a lot of background checks on me?” Ava asked, narrowing her eyes at him. Every ounce of shyness she was feeling was out the door.
“Man has to do what man has to do.” Luther replied, shrugging his shoulders. “Like it’s no big deal, really.” He added.
“No big deal? You fucking run a check on me without my consent. Who does that, man?” She asked as she could feel her blood begin to boil. How dare he think he could do as he wants with her life!
“Well, you're in my life and house. I should atleast have a glimpse of whom I'm dealing with. Should I not?” He asked.
That quite calmed her down a little but she wasn’t willing to reason with him entirely. “W-well, you should still have asked for my permission first before doing what you did.”
“I literally feel naked in front of you right now. Like my whole life is known to you. What I want people to know and what I want to keep hidden. You just tampered with it all. Like you own my life or something.” She said as she could feel her rage double the more she thinks about it.
No matter what, he shouldn’t have checked about her without asking him, she thought furiously.
“Well, I'm used to getting things done my way. I had no idea you were going to be pissed about it. So I guess I'm apologising.” He said in a low voice.
Luther couldn't believe himself. He never apologises to anyone. But here he is apologising to a woman. He never thought a day like this would come.
“Fine.” Ava said not finding any reason to remain mad at him.
“So can we go now? You need to resume tomorrow. It is a Monday, remember?” He asked.
“I didn’t tell you I was interested.” Ava said. “Common woman!” Luther said in exasperation.
“Fine, are you in or out?” He asked.
“I’ll think about it.” Ava replied back. At that moment, Luther felt he was being so played. How can a woman be this stubborn? He wondered. And he’s usually not the one to be patient.
“You can think about it while in the car.” Luther said
“But..
“No buts. I’ve explained as you asked. Now, I'm going to leave the room to give you a moment to get it all set.” He said with an air of finality leaving Ava with no option.
She didn’t want to be anywhere close to him. But here she is, sitting in the freaking car with the drop dead gorgeous human. The most dangerous being to her poor little heart.
She tried to give as much space as she could between them, fearing so much the unknown. Luther, noticing her weird behaviour, decided not to say anything about it as they hit the road.
Throughout the drive, none spoke a word to each other. Ava kept staring outside the window till they got to a very high end store that screams luxury.
She was in awe as she got down from his car and stared at the mall. “So beautiful.” She whispered.
“I know right, but we’ve got to head in. There’s no time.” Luther said as he came to stand beside her. She was expecting to see people inside the mall buying stuff.
But she was shocked to see the coast was really clear. Not a single person in view except herself and Luther. With an attendant at the front desk.
“Welcome.” She greeted them brightly with a smile on her pretty chubby face. Luther nodded his head in response while Ava bowed slightly back at the lady.
“What do you want to get from our store today?” she asked as she continued beaming a smile at them.
“Get me office wear, her size. Everything you can lay your hands on.” Luther instructed the attendant making Ava’s eyes widen like that of a soccerrer.
