“No, where did you get that idea from?” Sal asked her. “And Saggun, I have just realized that you have been referring to your Master as a woman. Is our father not your master?”
“Your mother is considered my master because she is the one that hired me originally. But I also work for your father on occasion.”
“Before I was cursed, I remember your father having someone compel me to stab your mother and I watched her bleed out. How is she alive?”
“You guys really did not know that one of your mothers was involved? You two always thought that it was just your father this entire time?”
“Well yeah. After Lygia was killed, we learned that our father was behind her death. We had yet to learn of the curse at that time. His excuse was that she was found conspiring to kill the queen. That he had ended her before she could go through with her plans.” Manny explained.
“Did you believe him?” Tagronoth asked.
“Of course not. We would and could not believe that Lygia would do such a thing,” Sal answered.
“We knew he was lying, but had no proof. We had our own spy enter the palace as a guard, but he claims that he has yet to find proof of our suspicions.”
“So what exactly happened to your mother if she did not die that night?”
“She is at the demon palace ruling the realm along with our father.”
“Why tho? She was there when he ordered me to stab her. Why go back to a man that wants your death?” Emily asked. “Nobody in their right mind would do that.”
“Nobody would.” Tagronoth commented.
Sal and Manny looked at each other as the last of the dots connected for them.
“Your master, how does she act around dogs?”
“She loves them. She actually has two of them, devilish little monsters if you ask me.”
“The Queen hates dogs. In fact, she is scared of them,” Sal said.
“Well, that explains why mum suddenly left.”
“You two know something, don’t you?” Tagronoth asked them.
“When we were growing up, momma, you know her as the queen, would sometimes want a break from royal duties. However, everyone knew who she was. She could not go anywhere without someone recognizing her. On the rare occasions that she and the king were able to get away, they were always called back within two days for some emergency.” Manny explained. “Eventually, it was momma who came up with a solution of sorts, so she could get the break she needed.”
“We did not know about it at first, but we overheard her and mum talking about body switching.” Sal said, “Since mum had been at the palace since we were born, she basically knew how to run the realm just like momma did, with no one the wiser.”
“You think your mum and the queen switched bodies and never switched back?” Saggun asked.
“Yeah, we do.” Manny answered.
“Then where is the real queen?” Tagronoth questioned them.
“That is what we want to know. She disappeared around 400 years ago.”
“If the two of you have not stepped foot in the palace in 400 years, how do you know she is missing ?” Saggun wondered.
“Along with saying that he can find no proof of anything our father has done, our spy has been adamant that mum has not been back to the palace.” Sal said.
“If you don’t mind me asking, just who is your spy exactly?” Saggun knew everyone that worked at the palace. He may have not worked as long as their spy has, but even he has proof of most of the wrong doings that the king was accused of. “I obtained the proof I needed within two years of working there. But you say they have been working there for a lot longer and have nothing. Either you have a really stupid spy, who does not know how to do his job, or he is purposely giving you false information.”
“His name is Raumel.” Sal said.
“Raumel? Your spy is fucking Raumel?”
“Yes, why?”
“I was wrong, your spy isn’t the one that is stupid. The stupid one, is the two of you.”
“Who is Raumel?” Emily asked.
“He works in the palace dungeons, a real piece of shit. He has a disgusting habit of sexually abusing prisoners.”
“Are you sure about that?” Tagronoth asked.
“Yeah, I'm sure.”
“Do our parents know about this habit of his?” Manny questioned.
“Yes, they know. They let him do what he pleases as long as it does not interfere with his job.” Saggun explained, “How did you two not know about this before you sent him as your spy?”
“We knew him for years before, he had never done that shit before.”
“Have you seen him in person since he started? Or was he sending information another way? I mean, if you had known him for years, then he would know you two have a way to tell if someone is lying or not. You can't really tell if he was lying if he wasn't in the same room.” Tagronoth commented.
