Chapter 50

“Do you guys really forgive her for what she did to your soul? Saggun asked the twins after Emily had fallen asleep that night.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because we love her.”
“And is that enough for you?”
“Yes. Why wouldn’t it be?” Sal asked him.
“I guess the next question is, will your love for her be enough?” Saggun wondered. He doubted that they did love her as much as they believed, but he still wanted to hear their answer.
“Why would it not be enough? We love her, and she loves us. Do you think something will happen if one of us is the one to end her life? You think she will not come into her powers? That the ritual will fail?” Manny questioned him.
“No, I believe the ritual will work. I just wonder if your love for her is enough?”
“What are you getting at Saggun?” Tagronoth, chimed in. He had been listening to the conversation but had no reason to do anything but listen. However, now, his curiosity was piqued.
“Fine, I will just ask, very plainly. Do you really love her enough to protect her from everything?”
“Yes.”
“Really? Honestly, I can't tell. From the looks of it, you two have been doing a hell of a job for her past 10 lives.”
“That is not fair, and you know it,” Tagronoth said, raising his voice.
“What the hell do you even know about anything? We only officially met when you came over with Tagronoth that day. So tell me Saggun, what the fuck do you think you know about our relationship with Emily, then besides what you heard from our conversations about the past?” Manny was trying his best to control his volume, so he would not wake Emily with all the noise.
“You are right, we did not meet until a few weeks ago, but I do know enough. I am, however, curious about a few things.”
“Which are?”
“Are you willing to chop off the head of every person that has ever laid a hand on her, no matter who they are? And are you willing to protect her from every threat, no matter how big in the future?”
“Then why were her so-called parents not killed the moment she summoned you?”
“We were planning on it. But we figured they deserved to be tortured first.”
“I agree, they did deserve every second of the torture they received.”
“If you agree, then why did you rescue her father after killing her mother?”
“My master ordered it. Actually, she ordered me to choose one to kill and the other to make into her little puppet. But you already know this.”
“When Tagronoth mentioned that you were the spy, we figured you were the one responsible for the mess that happened in the dungeon.” Sal said. “Were you also the one to give her to those bastards in the first place?”
“No, I did not find out about that until a few years later. When I did, I killed the one who did the delivery.”
“If you knew about it, then why did you not get her back?”
“They hid her very well. I looked for her but could not find her, and I did not have any way to find her. I only knew about her return when Tagronoth mentioned protecting your girlfriend.”
“Wait a moment, I am confused.” Tagronoth said, “Why were you searching for her in the first place? I assume your master was the one to hide her with those lunatics.”
“Yeah, she was the one to order it.”
“So why look for her?”
“Have you seriously not figured it out? Why do you look for her every lifetime?”
“Because she is our soulmate. Because we love her, and cannot live without her.”
“Exactly.”
“She was right about one thing,” Tagronoth said.
“Who?” Manny asked.
“What was she right about?” Sal questioned.
“Emily. She was right.” Tagronoth looked at Saggun as he answered. “You are definitely an asshole.”
“Wait a minute here. You mean that Saggun is her missing soulmate?”
“Yeah,” Tagronoth said, “Am I wrong?" He asked Saagun.
“No, you are not wrong.”
“So why have you not said anything?”
“What was the point? She had no clue as to who I was until last night. Was I supposed to go up to her and say, ‘Hi, I know you only know me as Tagronoth’s lover, but we knew each other in one of your past lives. Not only do we know each other, but I am also one of your soulmates. Unfortunately, you have no recollection of me, so I cannot exactly prove what I am saying.’ That would have been a lovely conversation, don't you agree?”
“If you are her missing soulmate, then why work for someone who is clearly out to hurt her?” Sal asked.
