CHAPTER 33: RINA'S STORY

MONICA'S POV

"What do you mean? You're here to find love? Are there no Merman in the water?" I asked. I could remember vividly that those writers then used to write about Mermaid and Merman. They would talk about how good-looking both of them are and how good they are to each other.

It was surprising to hear that a mermaid came to earth to find true love. Among who? I was confused and I needed her to explain further to me.

She smiled and turned to face me "You won't understand." She said softly but I shook my head. I was curious, I wanted to know what she meant and I knew my mind wouldn't be at rest if I refused to find out from her. "I will. I can understand it all." I said to her and I saw her eyes twitched.

Her eyes lit up and her smile became genuine "Will you really understand?" She asked. Her question was weird but anything to know what she meant. "Yes, I will," I said and she sat right. "You see, I was born human and I lived among humans for 19 years before I found out I was a mermaid. I had always thought I was different but there was no way to confirm and there was a time I decided to give up on finding out who I was. I decided to live as a human that I was and thankfully, I had everyone. I had a mother, a father, a brother, sisters and every other family member who sincerely loved me. I also had friends, both male and female who cared about me. So, I figured there was nothing to lose even if I didn't find out what I was and with that, I lived my life happily..." She stopped and lowered her eyes. Her eyes reddened.

I was shocked. I found it hard to believe what she was telling me but I knew she wasn't lying either. She knew what she was saying and she was sure of it. "What happened after that?" I asked and she raised her head again. "One day, I went out with my friends to visit a waterfall. We've always heard about how beautiful the waterfall structure was and our interest was piqued. Although I had a water phobia back then, I still wanted to see the water and because of that, I went there with my friends without telling my parents because I knew they would never let me go." She stopped again as a tear trickled down her face and turned into a pearl immediately it landed on the ground.

I bent down to pick up the pearl and a smile appeared on my face, it was pretty just like her and it was amazing too. How could tears turn to pearl? I found her amazing. I was still smiling while staring at the pearl when I remembered she was telling me a story and I bit my lower lip in embarrassment, I felt bad. I turned to face her and lowered my eyes, not knowing what to say but she held my hand and raised my chin with her other hand "It's okay. My tears distracted you. Everyone would have acted that way if they saw how beautiful it is." She said and I raised my head to look at her face only to see her smiling back at me.

I nodded my head and sighed "You can continue. I will listen patiently this time around and not disturb you." I said and she agreed. "Okay. We went on the excursion and got there late at night. We were supposed to just sleep and go watch the water the next day but our curiosity took the best of us and we went to the water immediately. We sat down beside the water, enjoying the cool breeze when I suddenly felt a tingling sensation in my body and I was confused. Immediately, I stood up and ran away, my friends called me but I didn't reply and only stopped when I figured I was far away from them. I looked at my feet and realized I was standing in the water and before I knew it, pain surged in my body, the pain was so unbearable that I screamed to the night sky before I lost consciousness." She stopped again and let out a deep breath.

"I woke up later in the room and my friends were with me. They told me they saw me lying down inside the water, unconscious so they decided to bring me back. I understood what they said but there was something wrong and I could feel it. My body was no longer the same and I felt a lot lighter and healthier than I used to be. I tried finding out what happened but there was no answer in my mind and I just let it be."

"My friends saw that I was okay and they invited me to join them to watch the water but fortunately for me, I told them I would meet them there after taking a bath. After they left, I entered the bathroom to take a bath and that was where I turned to a mermaid for the very first time. I was shocked and I couldn't believe what was happening but it was real... It was my reality." She said and sighed deeply.

"Can we continue this another day? I can feel my mother calling me. I need to go." She said and stood up. "Mother?" I asked, confused but she only nodded her head "Yes, Mother in the water. I will be back another day." She said and like that, she rushed out of my room and closed the door behind her.

I stood up to rush after her when Lord Brimstone appeared in my room and grabbed my hand "Where do you think you're going?" He asked as he pushed me to the bed and started putting off his shirt... He was drunk!
