Amelia hurriedly asked, "Then did you see who did it last night?"
"His wife." At this point, Pearl's face showed a hint of schadenfreude.
"Really?" I still found it hard to believe this answer; after all, Amara seemed so gentle, not like that kind of person.
Pearl sneered disdainfully, "Anyone who gets involved with Brian can't be a good person. You don't really think she's a good person, do you? Do you know why I tried to kill myself back then? It was because of her."
"What do you mean by that?" I asked; Amara really didn't seem like such a ruthless person, not to the extent of harming a student.
"Back then, she used Brian's money to make me abort the child I was carrying." A cold glint appeared in Pearl's eyes as she spoke sinisterly, "But she's also a pitiful woman, deceived by Brian's appearance, just like me. But she's luckier than me, Brian is willing to deceive her for a lifetime."
'But who knows if that lifetime is good or bad? If Amara really loves Brian, could she really endure keeping watching him cheat? So, Amara isn't completely without a motive for murder.' I thought.
"It's impossible," Howard denied in a deep voice, "The marks on Brian's body were clearly left by a vengeful spirit. I can sense that Mrs. Scott hates him, but she hasn't developed a murderous intent. She might have stood by, but that doesn't mean she did it."
Pearl snorted, crossing her arms. "Then I don't know; I didn't get a chance to get close to him last night."
A cold glint flashed in Amelia's eyes as she stared at Pearl intently. "You keep flip-flopping; who knows if you're telling the truth? Maybe you did it and are trying to frame Mrs. Scott."
"No, last night I was with my mom; I can guarantee she didn't do anything like that." Then little ghost jumped out to testify for Pearl.
Guessing back and forth, we still didn't know what happened last night, but the most important thing now was to call back Brian's soul.
When Amelia and I returned with the tools, we saw Aiden and Wesley discussing something, both with very serious expressions.
"Mr. Martinez, we brought the things back." I interrupted them.
Aiden glanced at us, then had Wesley come forward to take the items and start setting up the scene.
Watching their coordinated actions, I couldn't help but frown and lean towards Amelia. "Don't you think your grandpa treats Wesley differently?"
Amelia nodded in agreement. "He does seem different."
"Could he be planning to take Wesley as a disciple?" Judging by the way things were going, it seemed Aiden was more attentive to Wesley than to me.
"Impossible, my grandpa never takes students; you're already an exception." Amelia said and shook her head.
I rubbed my chin. "Really?" My intuition was usually spot on.
Aiden began casting his spell while Amelia and I hid nearby, holding our breath and watching intently, afraid to miss a moment of his personal instruction.
He chanted something under his breath, waved his large hand over the person on the bed, and a transparent white figure appeared out of thin air; it was Brian.
Seeing such a magical scene for the first time, I was still a bit surprised. I rubbed my eyes, wanting to see more clearly. Unlike the half-dead Brian lying on the bed, his soul was transparent, floating unsteadily in the air, as if a gust of wind could make him disappear at any moment.
"Return to your body," I heard Aiden say.
Brian seemed unable to speak, gesturing wildly.
I understood his meaning. "He seems to be saying he can't go back."
Aiden frowned, puzzled, when suddenly a black mist floated in from outside, followed by a strikingly beautiful woman's face emerging from the mist.
Hiding by the window, Pearl suddenly called out, her face changing when she saw the woman, "It's her; I saw her last night."
The beautiful ghost smiled lightly, covering her lips with her hands, her expression seductive. "He left with me of his own accord, and now he can't return to you."
Aiden looked at Amara and asked, "Do you know her?"
Amara hesitated and nodded. "I saw her photo on my husband's phone before, but I've never met her in person."
Hearing this, Aiden understood and explained, "This is one of the person he attracted outside. He must have promised to go with her. Since he made a promise, he can't go back on it."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but think of the time Howard tempted me to stay with him, feeling a bit uneasy; indeed, some things shouldn't be said lightly, especially to these supernatural beings.
Amara was about to cry, both angry and resentful. "He really is my nemesis. How much trouble has he stirred up out there? How am I supposed to live like this?" In this situation, she couldn't just let it go and had to seek Aiden's help. "Then what should we do now, Mr. Martinez?"
Aiden suddenly shifted his gaze to me and waved me over.
I was stunned and instinctively pointed to myself. "Me?"
'Is he asking me to persuade this beautiful ghost? I don't have that kind of skill or eloquence.' I thought. But remembering Aiden said this was my first test, I didn't dare refuse and had to brace myself.
After thinking for a moment, I tentatively spoke, "Hello, beautiful lady."
No woman could resist being called beauty, and it seemed I was right; the beautiful ghost was very pleased with my words and glanced at me.
I continued, "Beautiful lady, since you're so gorgeous, you can find any handsome ghost you want. Why cling to such a philandering man? If you keep him by your side, you'll have to constantly guard against him cheating. What if he meets someone more beautiful than you? Of course, no one could be more beautiful than you."
"But you know men always think other women are better. So even if he meets someone not as beautiful as you, he'd be willing to try to be with any woman out of curiosity. Being with such a man is really beneath you." I added.
The beautiful ghost chuckled, clearly pleased with my flattery. "You sure know how to talk."
