Chapter 38: DARK NIGHT'S WITCH - DAY 6

Just like Wolf Creed residence, Dark Knight was covered with a veil, a strong barrier protecting the area where they lived. The group that came to meet with Penny patiently waited in the alpha’s house where they were welcomed like family. Although it was not common for packs to mix, the families of the alphas were familiar with each other. Drake himself was the son of Dark Night’s alpha. Drake had informed his parents about everything he learned from Wolf Creed and how they planned on meeting with Penny.

“Sorry for the wait,” Paul said to Mitchell. “We informed Penny of your visit early; she must be putting things in order.” Mitchell smiled at Paul. He was a broad man with short black hair, caramel skin just like his son drake and a square jaw, which gave him a unique look. Beside him was his wife, a banshee who had had long, silver hair, piercing blue eyes, pale skin, and a slender, ethereal build.

“It’s not a problem; we just came a bit early.”

“Yes, you did,” A soft voice came from behind Mitchell, and those seated opposite her saw an attractive woman in a yellow floral dress materialize out of thin air. Her vivid emerald eyes, filled with both wisdom and an air of mystery, her presence commanding attention and respect as she stepped forward with an enigmatic smile.“But any matter concerning the hybrid should be treated with urgency.” Penny continued as her eyes moved towards Clara. “You look familiar, dear. Do I know you?” Penny questioned Clara.

“I don’t think you—” Drake began before he was cut off.

“Hush!” Penny silenced him.

“No, ma’am,” Clara replied respectfully, feeling intimidated. Clara always considered herself to be the prettiest girl. But now, staring at Penny, a woman old enough to be her mother, she felt insignificant. Penny was a beautiful woman who exuded confidence and authority.

“Well, you look like the child of a friend of mine. She had twins, though,” Penny smiled.

Mitchell knew Clara was a twin, and it couldn’t have been a coincidence if Penny recognized a child of a witch. “She is a twin, and there’s a possibility her mother was a witch.”

“Ericka?” Penny asked Clara.

“Yes,” Clara pursed her lips. She had met a friend of her mother. She didn’t think her mother was capable of having friends. She had tried telling herself that she didn’t care if she lost a mother like Ericka, but now she realized she might actually miss her. “She was killed last night.” Clara burst into tears.

The news seemed unbelievable to Penny. What could have possibly killed a witch as strong as Ericka? “I’m sorry for your loss.” Now Penny had her own questions to ask, but they would have to wait until she was done with the reason why they were all here. “Can I speak to you later?” she asked and received a nod from Clara, who was wiping the tears from her eyes with her fingers.

“Mrs. Penny,” Xavier began.

“Just call me Penny,” Penny corrected, trying to put a smile on her face after receiving bad news.

“Penny, we had a lead two days ago and had to wait this long before we could meet with you.” Xavier said as he put his hands inside his trousers and pulled out the leather bags that contained the powder that Red had gathered. “We found this; we were hoping you could tell us what it is,” Xavier passed it over to Penny.

When Penny received it, she didn’t have to inspect it to know what it was. “This is high-grade material used by witches of my caliber. They are extremely difficult to come by, though. You didn’t just come all the way here because of a powder, right?”

Xavier was hoping the powders would give more clues as to who used them and why. “We found these powders after a big surge of energy was released. And if they are difficult to attain, then the person saw it necessary to use them.”

“Sure, spells like these are used to reveal strong veils and mask them back. Use this on the veil around us and we wouldn’t be protected anymore. I’m sure you know how impenetrable these veils are.”

Seeing that not much useful information was given out, Mitchell decided to move on to the next thing. “We are also here for another reason. These human girls seem to be supernaturals as well. But their mother, your friend, seemed to have tampered with it.”

“Sounds like Ericka. If it’s about her daughters, I can’t do anything about that. She wanted them to have a normal life, so she did take away any ounce of supernatural ability from them, even before they were born,” Penny revealed.

Mitchell was at a loss for words. “Ericka must have been a powerful witch to be able to carry out such acts.' “Sage isn’t a daughter of Ericka, so maybe you could…”

Penny caught on to what Mitchell was trying to say. She wanted her to unveil Sage’s true nature. “Come with me,” Penny placed her palm out in front of Sage, who took it and stood up.

“I’ll come too, and my mother as well,” Xavier said, standing up after Sage.

Penny took Xavier, his mother, and Sage into her house. It looked more like a workshop with different bottles and materials arranged in an orderly manner, hint of exotic incense wafted through the air, mingling with other scents. The furniture in the room was limited: only a chair and a work table with shelves almost all around them.

“Sit on the carpet and cross your legs,” Penny instructed Sage calmly. “The both of you can just stand over to the side there.” she said referring to Xavier and his mother.

Without wasting time after Sage was seated, Penny knelt before her and placed her right thumb on Sage’s forehead and her left palm on Sage’s chest. “Close your eyes and breathe in.” Sage did as she was told, attentively following all instructions.

‘Ericka, what did you have to protect so badly that you placed such a seal?’ Penny wondered as she realized that it wouldn’t be easy to unmask Sage’s energy. “This will be a long process. Shall we begin?” Penny said, getting up to prepare some materials that she would be needing.
