Chapter 37: Slept in

Kashina, after silencing Venzy, sought answers about the boy Venzy had brought.

“Who is that?”

“Oh, just a useless being affiliated with the hybrid.”

Kashina was surprised upon hearing news about the hybrid. “Well, anyone affiliated with the hybrid is a great asset, don’t you think?”

“There was no need for me to bring him here. I just didn’t want to be punished by Soren for letting the hybrid escape. So this boy is my excuse,” Venzy explained as she patted Clark on the head like he was a pet.

“You need not worry about Soren. He is seriously ill; it is Zayn who is in charge of the house for now,” Kashina reassured. “And darling, you need not worry about being scared of Soren for long. It’s just a matter of time before my plan takes action.”

“Very good, mother,” Venzy said, a sinister smile forming on her face.

Sage woke up as the rays from the morning sun shined on her face. She had slept well in the comfort of Xavier’s bed. She tried rolling off the bed, but she realized she was locked in by a strong arm around her waist. She looked up to see Xavier beside her, sleeping peacefully. This was the first time Sage had shared a bed with a boy, and it gave her butterflies in her stomach thinking she had slept beside the best-looking boy she had ever seen in her life and not only that, he held her in his arms like she was a special person to him.

She could have gotten up or even woken him up, but she felt there was no harm in staying beside him a little longer before she went out the door to face reality again. With that, Sage fell asleep again in Xavier’s arms.

---

On a normal day, Xavier would have woken up really early. He had a lot of things to accomplish, and he would not be able to do that by staying in bed. But today, he had managed to sleep longer.

When Xavier woke up, he looked at Sage, who was asleep with her face placed close to his chest. He smiled as he took his hands from around her waist and pushed the hair on her face to the side. Xavier turned to the other side of his bed to pick up his phone. He looked at the time and quickly sat up.

“10:30 AM!” Xavier exclaimed, surprised at how he was able to sleep for so long. He quickly got off the bed and headed for the shower. “Everyone would be waiting for me.” Although there was no special meeting, everyone would be waiting for him to give directives on today’s task.

Xavier was done dressing; he did everything quietly so that he would not wake Sage up. When he opened his door to go out, he was met with Red's hand reaching out to knock on the door. He quickly got out and closed the door behind him, not wanting to be questioned by Red. He paced down the stairs.

“It’s about time!” Ian said upon seeing Xavier step into the living room. Although he spoke like Xavier had wasted everyone’s time, he had a huge grin plastered on his face. Xavier threw his brother a questioning look as he wondered what was making him smile.

Red came down after Xavier and crossed her arms over her chest as they all waited for Xavier to say what he had planned for today.

“The search for the hybrids continues as usual, but we need to be careful as the vampires are not the only group in search of the hybrid again,” Xavier stated as everyone’s attention was on him. “The last place we suspect the hybrid to be is at the school. We have a lead from the powders Red got. Drake said we can get more information from a witch in his pack, that’s where we'll be heading to today.”

“While we are at that we can kill two birds with one stone,” Mitchell chimed in. “We will also be confirming the real identities of the girls under our roof. If we are going to provide shelter for them, then it's best we not harbor an enemy.” Mitchell had told this to Xavier last night. It was a big concern to her. An enemy within their walls would be a setback as classified information would be given to the enemy, and they would be able to beat them as they’ll always be a step ahead of them.

There was no objection to this as everyone was silent.

“Why aren’t we going to the school if that’s where the hybrid is suspected to be?” Edward asked. He didn’t receive an immediate answer except for the slap to the back of his head he received from Leo who sat beside him.

“Ouch!” Edward exclaimed.

“Because it’s Saturday, dummy,” Valarie snapped. “Now I feel stupid for giving you a reply.”

“Alright. Leo, Ian, and Mum, we’ll go out with Drake to the Dark Nights pack.”

“And Edward, since you’re so concerned about the school, you can search it out with Red.”

“Hey, why am I not going with you to Dark Nights?” Valarie questioned, pissed off that she wasn’t included, especially since they would be seeing an elder witch.

“Letting you have too much information is dangerous,” Xavier smiled. He wasn’t going to tell her that his reason for excluding her was that she didn’t know how to keep her mouth shut, and he believed that a lot of things would be revealed by the elder there.

“Why do I have to go with Edward?” Red whined as she eyed the goofy Edward.

“So he has someone to watch his back. He’s not exactly the attentive type,” Xavier stated blatantly.

“If we are good, we can leave now,” Mitchell stated as she walked up the stairs to get the girls.

The groups were set to leave. Red and Edward had left already, and Valarie was to assist her mother to check on Jane.

“Drake’s here,” Xavier informed everyone as soon as he saw a red car pull into the compound.

“Where are we going to?” Sage asked as she was led out by Ian.

“What about Jane?” Clara asked with a hint of worry. She hadn’t seen her sister since they took her into the room for treatment. She was scared the inevitable might have happened, and they didn’t know how to tell her.

“She’ll be taken care of. Let’s go,” Mitchell stated, seeming to be in a haste.

Drake had gotten down from his car to wait for the group. When they stepped out, he was surprised to see additional faces that he recognized.

‘What the hell are they doing here?’ Drake wondered, looking at Sage, whom he found suspicious. ‘Mmm…maybe Xavier found them suspicious and brought them for questioning,’ Drake said not believing his own thought.

No one said a word to him as they walked out. Leo got into Drake’s car, and the ladies got into Xavier’s and their engine roared to life, ready for the journey they would soon embark on.
