Chapter 174 Getting To My Family
Chapter 174 Getting To My Family
Sade
I am at the office today. Tomilino and I needed to get some paperwork done, as well as work on some shipments that we have planned for this week. I have been out of the loop for a bit. I tried to keep in touch, but with me being so focused on helping take care of Rain, I’ve not really been pulling my weight. Tomilino has understood, and he’s backed me up the whole way, but with Rain doing better, I want to get back to what I should be doing.
I know she and the nanny are going shopping for the kids today. Rain also mentioned going to the art supply store, and I had to smile at that. Seeing her be happy and able to paint again is amazing. She’s so fucking talented; it just blows me away. I’m going to be talking to her more about getting a portfolio together to submit to some galleries.
She was talking about us finishing setting up the studio together, and I told her that would be amazing. So, I’m excited to see what things she brings home today. I love seeing her this happy, and out doing normal everyday stuff. Things have been bad for so long, and now this is such a breath of fresh air. I always wanted it to be like this, and now, finally, it is.
She was embarrassed the next morning after I had made love to her. I refrained from taking her again the next morning, knowing this was new to her. I just enjoyed the euphoria I felt at being able to share that experience with her finally. Now, the door was open, and I fully intended to enjoy the fucking hell out of it.
I am trying not to push too hard, so last night, I just held her and cuddled her. However, tonight, I fully intend to get my hands back on my wife. I smile to myself just thinking about it. This is the life I imagined for us. Now, I just have to keep us on track.
I hear my phone ring, and I pull it out of my pocket, smiling when I see it’s Rain calling, "Hey there, baby, you having fun shopping?”
“Mr. Russo, this is actually Ms. Denison. There has been an incident. We were attacked by a gunman; your wife fought him and shot him. The cops are en route.” I stop breathing.
“Where are you?” She rattles off the address of the shopping center.
“I’m on my way.” I hang up without waiting for a reply.
I rush to Tomilino’s office. The second he sees my face, he’s on alert. “What happened?”
“Rain and the kids have been attacked at the shopping center. A gunman. Rain fought with him and shot him. Police are already on their way or could even be there by now. I’m going.”
He nodded. “Take Thomas with you.” Thomas was one of our lead enforcers, and Tomilino was already on the phone, no doubt directing him to meet me at my car.
“I’ll call the lawyer's office now.” I nodded as I ran for the garage and my car. That mother fucker was so damn lucky he was dead, and I didn’t get my hands on him. Whoever sent him would not be so lucky.
By the time I reached my car in the parking garage, Thomas was there waiting for me. He was on the phone and jumped in the car as soon as I unlocked the doors. I hurried and pulled on my seatbelt while backing out. Then I drove to where my family was as fast as I could.
When I got there, the nanny was holding Connor and Rain was holding Saoirse. I could tell Rain was having trouble keeping her shit together, but was trying to keep calm. I rushed to her and was stopped by the police. He must have seen the look on my face because he backed off a bit.
“That is my wife and children.” He spoke on his radio, and then I was escorted to my family.
The second Rain saw me, I could see her lip trembling. I rushed and took her in my arms, embracing her and Saoirse all at the same time. I heard Connor calling for me, so I turned and took him from the nanny. I rubbed his back and gave him kisses. Then transferred him to one arm while I put the other back around Rain.
There was a white sheet-covered body on the ground not far away. There were several police cars, an ambulance, yellow tape, and all sorts of shit going on. I turned and kissed Rain’s forehead.
“What happened, baby?” She looked at me with shining eyes, but no tears fell.
“I was hit from the side and went down on the pavement. I came up fighting. I have no idea how I knew how to do that, but I managed to get the gun away from him. I told him not to move or I’d shoot. I could hear the kids screaming. He pulled a knife from behind his back and started to rush me. So, I put two bullets in his chest. Then when I knew he wasn’t getting back up, I went to the kids. I had Ms. Denison call 911 and then you while I tried to comfort the kids.” I nodded, ready to kill.
“What happened to the gun?” She nodded towards the cops, so no doubt they had taken it as evidence, hopefully along with this guy’s knife.
Finally, one of the cops came over to speak to us. “Mrs. Russo, in light of all that has happened, we are still going to need official statements from you and Ms. Denison. We are currently working on pulling surveillance footage of the parking lot, and that should be able to corroborate your story with no problem. With you having the children, what we would like to do is have one of our officers escort you home. Then once the children are safe and secure, if you and Ms. Denison could come down to the station and give an official statement, that would be great. That way we can get all of this handled as quickly as possible.”
She turned and looked up at me, and that made the officer look at me, and his eyes widened so he could know who I was associated with. Not sure he would know me yet, but he would know who I was linked to.
“I will be escorting both of them to the station. I’ll arrange for child care since our nanny is one of the ones needed at the station. Tomilino Russo, my boss, is contacting our lawyers, and they will be instructed to meet us there.” The cop eyed me and then nodded.
I took hold of Rain’s hand and started to lead her back to the SUV. I instructed Thomas to drive my car to our house and to contact Tomilino about getting someone to watch the kids and what was happening so the lawyers could meet us at the station.
