Chapter 169 OBGYN

Chapter 169 OBGYN
Rain

Today I have a doctor’s appointment. This one is for the baby, and not my head. We got the stitches out a few days ago, but there is still a nasty raised pink line on the side of my head, not to mention the shaved patch. I have some fuzz growing in, but it bugs the crap out of me. I look like I got lost in some punk rock concert or something.

Sade has told me repeatedly not to worry about it. The healing wound on the side of my head is very obvious, so anyone with even half a brain would be able to see why I have part of my head shaved. He’s talked to me about possibly cutting the rest of my hair and then getting a wig while I wait for my own hair to grow back in. I told him I’d think about it.

Sade was able to get me an appointment fairly quickly. He said we hadn’t yet known I was pregnant before the accident, or I hadn’t told him yet at least. So, this will be the first official appointment. There have already been sonograms because of my being in the hospital, so we know that it’s okay in there.

When the nurse calls us back, she’s nice and takes all of the necessary information. Then she instructs me to put a gown on and wait for the doctor. I do all of that, and I am grateful when Sade helps me pull the curtain while I am changing, and then I open it back up. I still feel weird, but I am trying to deal with it. He's my husband and the baby’s father; he should be involved. Besides, there is only one way that this baby got in there, so he’s already seen everything anyway.

I remember the day my mom sat me down and talked to me about sex. She wondered if I was too young, but some of the girls in the trailer park where we lived were talking and included me in some of it, and I was very curious. She said she wasn’t going to fill my head with a bunch of stupid crap that wasn’t true. That I should know the facts about everything right from the start. I will admit at the time, I had thought it was rather sick. So, while I do know the dynamics of stuff, I have no memory of participating in anything like that at all.

I’m not sure if Sade knows this or not, but with everything that’s happened, I thought I should educate myself. So, on the couple of times Sade left the hospital to check on the kids, and then some while I’ve been home, I’ve watched sex education videos. Nothing has sparked my memories, but I find I don’t think about it quite the same way as I used to, so I guess that’s good.

Sometimes the way he looks at me or watches me makes my stomach flutter. I think he is exceptionally attractive; I know that much. I still feel stupid and way out of my depth with everything. I’m not quite sure how to address it either, but I know we are going to have to at some point.

I hear a knock on the door and then it’s opened, and a middle-aged woman steps in with a smile. “Hi, I’m Dr. Rickman. I understand that we are roughly three months at this point. I read the doctor’s notes from when you were in the hospital, and I’ve reviewed the sonogram pictures. So, what I think we should do today is just check you out and make sure everything is good. I know that with the brain injury and the notes on your chart, we are also dealing with a very large chunk of missing memory. Now, that is going to make this a bit harder, but I’ll try to help make it easier.” I nodded.

“Okay, the first thing we are going to do is a pelvic exam. Now, a woman of your age has had several, especially since you have two kids already, but I bet you don’t remember ever having one. So, let me tell you what we do so you are not caught off guard.” With that, she goes and gets several things.

She lays them next to me on this exam bed thing I am sitting on, “This metal contraption is called a speculum. What I do is gently insert this into the vagina. Then it is squeezed to help open up the vaginal passage so I can see what’s going on with everything. Then this huge Q-tip-looking thing is what I use to gently scrape along the cervix so we can test for any cancer cells or anything. I’ll have gloves on, and I use some lubricant, like this stuff, so that my hands and the speculum are slick and don’t hurt you.” I nodded and took a deep breath.

After that, she had me lie on my back and put my feet up in the stirrups. She was really nice and walked me through everything she did and told me when she was going to touch me and everything. I felt weird with Sade being in the room, but he stayed on the other side of the room so he couldn’t really see anything at all because I had a sheet over me. It didn’t take too long for her to be done with that part.

The next part she explained she needed to put her fingers up inside of me and feel around and check everything. She did that, and it was a bit uncomfortable, but nothing too bad. She did a breast exam and said that things looked good. Then she gave me several pamphlets on pregnancy and birth. She declared everything was as it should be.

She did another sonogram, and it was amazing really to see it moving just a bit and a heartbeat flashing. She let us hear it as well, and I was surprised at how fast it was, but she assured me that was normal. Sade held my hand while we did that, and she printed out pictures for us.

“Rain, there are some things I need to help explain to you in light of your unique circumstances. First, you have the body of a fully grown woman who is currently three months pregnant. Now, your body has hormones that are going nuts with pregnancy. There may be cravings that you have for different foods. Don't ignore that. You will be tired; give yourself permission to rest. If you get nauseous, let me know so we can help with that. Also, many pregnant women have increased libido and sexual drive while pregnant. If that happens, know that it is perfectly normal. You can call my office with any questions, and I will be more than happy to help answer those.” I was sure I was blushing, but I appreciated her help.

Now, I just had to try to navigate all of this stuff and figure out how to navigate all of this.
