Chapter 336 He Is Like a Joke

Chapter 336 He Is Like a Joke

Xandra patted Beth's little head and said gently, "Go play now."

Beth responded and toddled off on her short little legs.

Xandra watched her daughter leave, then turned to look at Lucas, her expression cooling considerably.

"Lucas, don't you think it's pretty low to use a child's trust to trick me into coming here?"

Lucas looked at her steadily. "Xandy, I just wanted to talk to you alone. If I hadn't asked Beth to be the messenger, would you have been willing to meet me privately?"

Hearing him still call her Xandy, Xandra couldn't be bothered to correct him anymore.

She knew Lucas was innately stubborn.

He was determined to compete with Frederick!

Xandra was silent for a moment, then asked, "What do you want to say?"

Lucas said, "Philip told me you're resigning. Is that true?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Hearing him ask why, Xandra countered, "What do you think? Given our current relationship, shouldn't we keep our distance?"

Lucas looked at her delicate features. A flicker of hurt darted through his eyes as the thought of how she was already someone's wife crossed his mind.

"Xandy, do you really hate being in the same space with me that much?"

Xandra's gaze was cool. "Lucas, wake up. We're not young anymore, and I'm not single."

"And as the second son of the Russell family, everything you say and do represents the Russell family's reputation. Don't you think we should stay away from each other so people don't spread rumors about us?"

Lucas looked at her. "Rumor? Do you really care that much about what people say? No, you don't care about that at all. The fact that you had three children before marriage proves you're not someone who's afraid of gossip!"

Xandra said, "You are right. I used to not care so much about what people said. That's because even if people attacked me, they'd only be attacking me alone. But now, I'm married. I don't want our situation to hurt the person I love."

The person she loved—she meant Frederick.

Lucas felt his heart tighten painfully.

"Xandy, you're so cruel. You know exactly where it hurts and that's where you strike, isn't it?"

Xandra's face was calm. "Lucas, I just want you to face reality. Although you're the biological father of our three children, that's all you are and all you will ever be. Please don't do pointless things like today anymore."

She turned to leave after speaking.

Lucas clenched his fists. "Xandy, won't you consider the children's feelings? Can't you see that Beth and Maggie really want their biological father to be with them every day? Xandy, you love the children, don't you? You'd do anything for them, right?"

Xandra stopped midstride and turned to look at him.

The man before her seemed gentle and refined, but he was scheming underneath.

His kindness to the children wasn't because he truly loved them, but because he wanted to use them as an excuse to achieve his goal.

His love for the children wasn't pure, unlike Frederick, who was kind to the children without any ulterior motives.

Xandra took a deep breath as she watched Lucas approach her. "Lucas, I'm pregnant."

Lucas, who had just started walking, stared at her, his movements freezing instantly.

After a long moment, he said, "What did you say? Say that again!"

"I said, I'm pregnant. This baby is proof of the love I share with your older brother. So what you just said—don't ever bring it up again."

Xandra placed her hand on her belly, her cool gaze carrying a hint of tenderness.

"It's true that I'd so anything for my children but the same goes for the child I'm carrying."

"It's my fault that our children grew up without their father by their side, so I don't want to feel that guilt again. My husband and I will welcome this new life together."

After speaking, Xandra turned and left.

Lucas felt like he's been struck by a heavy blow as he watched her leave.

She was pregnant again!

How could she be pregnant again!

He'd been pretending to be the children's father, trying to use them to win back her heart, but she got pregnant at this very moment!

It made everything he'd done recently look like a joke!

Would he really never be able to win her back?

Xandra walked toward the front hall and ran into Frederick, who had come looking for her.

"Honey, where did you go?"

"Lucas had Beth bring me to see him." Xandra didn't hide it.

Frederick's expression darkened slightly. "What did he say to you?"

"Nothing much."

"Tell me!"

His tone was a bit cold.

Xandra smiled with her eyes. "What, jealous?"

"Yes."

Combined with his expressionless face, it showed his current displeasure.

Xandra's smile grew brighter.

"What else could he say? He just used the children to make his point."

Frederick asked, "So what did you tell him?"

Xandra looked up, meeting his deep gaze, and smiled playfully. "I said I'm pregnant."

Frederick's breathing caught, emotions swirling in his eyes.

"You're pregnant?"

"Yes, I wanted to surprise you with the news when he got back but the cat's out of the bag now." Xandra said.

Frederick's sexy Adam's apple bobbed as his gaze fixed on her belly, his thoughts drifting, his hand reaching out then pulling back.

"Honey, when did you find out?"

When he was playing chess with Grandpa earlier, he'd wondered if she might be pregnant.

Sure enough, they were having a baby!

"Just now, Lenora examined me."

Xandra placed his hand on her belly. "Honey, you're going to be a dad."

Frederick smiled. He was so excited that he didn't know what to say.

He pulled her into his arms and instinctively lowered his head to kiss her lips, with tender affection.

Not far away, Lucas walked up and quietly watched this scene, his hands hanging at his sides suddenly clenching tight.

A gloomy aura gradually enveloped him.

……

Soon, everyone knew about Xandra's pregnancy.

Harper and Rachel were both very happy.

Richard was even happier, saying today was a good day, double happiness.

So when Peter and Tony came in the afternoon, he wasted no time in boasting to them that he was going to be a great-grandpa again.

Peter laughed heartily. "I'm going to be a great-grandpa too! Fred, you better treat Xandy well. If you dare let her suffer even a bit, I'll take her back to my house."

Just as Frederick opened his mouth to respond, Richard cut in.

"Hey, Peter, don't keep threatening to take people from the Russell family away! Xandy is my grandson's wife, and she's carrying the Russell family's child. You already took Chuck away, this time you absolutely cannot take my great-grandchild."

Peter laughed. "Look at you. You are still so petty, never passing up the opportunity to compete with me."

"Of course! Xandy is carrying the Russell family's child." Richard said.

"I know, I know, you don't need to keep saying 'Russell family's child' every day."

Peter smiled. "I'm just saying, as long as Xandy isn't mistreated, it's fine."

Listening to their banter, Frederick put his arm around Xandra and stated, "Don't worry, I'll definitely treat Xandy well."

"You hear that? My grandson is a responsible man who's devoted to one person."

Richard didn't forget to emphasize this, then his gaze fell on Tony. Thinking about how his marriage had been manipulated, he felt somewhat regretful.

"Tony, you came alone?"
