Chapter 146
Chapter 146
Asher,
When I came back down, she was leaving. “I’m going to give Adriel a bath, then we’ll have dinner,” she said, heading up the stairs. I looked at Miles and nodded towards my office. I headed to my office, and he followed me. I locked the door, took a seat, and looked at him.
“What’s going on?” I asked, looking at him. He let out a frustrated sigh.
“My parents,” he said quietly as he took a seat.
“After they kicked me out, they refused to acknowledge me, and I let it go. I never returned. Darla accepted me, and I just stayed. Then I met Sky, and she just accepted me. Then I met you, and you introduced me to Liam. I never wanted to accept Liam’s proposal because of who he was. He’s like you, important, but Sky told me it was time, so I did,” he said. He stood up and began pacing the office.
“I have a brother. He’s twenty. When they kicked me out, he sided with them. He always knew. A few weeks after I said yes to Liam, someone in Oak Haven wrote an article, and there was a picture of me and Liam, and it somehow made it to them. They showed up and started demanding money. I told them I didn’t have any. Apparently, they’ve been going around getting information on me. They know I’m close to Sky.”
“The threats started coming a month before you returned. I’ve managed to pacify them with a couple of thousand at a time, but they keep demanding more each time. They said I owe them for raising me and said I was ungrateful. That I can afford to foot the bill to renovate their house, send my brother to college, and buy a car for him. The worst was when my mother demanded that I give the car I bought for Darla to her, that she was my mother, not Darla. I just…” he said, taking a seat.
“Want them to stop?” I asked.
“Yes,” he said with a sigh.
“Does Darla know?” I asked, and he shook his head no.
“My mother hates Darla because she accepted me. I can’t tell her. I’ve managed to keep them quiet, but I won’t be able to continue it. No one knows, not even Liam,” he said, and I nodded.
“I’ll handle it, don’t worry.”
“Thanks.”
We heard the knock at the door. He opened it, and she was standing there with Adriel on her hips. “Dinner’s ready. You can talk later; let’s go.”
I took Adriel from her, and we went and had dinner. While having dinner, Samuel came in.
“Umm, I have the items,” he said. Miles stood up and took the box from him.
“Asher, you’ll be with your son tonight. I have something to look into. Miles and I will be going to the club. Ron will be with me. Is that okay?” she asked hesitantly.
“Sure, love, and be careful, both of you,” I said seriously.
Skylar,
I kept looking at him, waiting for him to ask what it was about, but he didn’t ask anything. He continued eating and feeding his son. Guess he really understood that he had nothing to worry about.
“Asher, Lillith is sick,” I said, and he looked up at me. “What happened to her?”
“She’s just sick. Fitzgerald says she refuses to eat or drink, even her medication. He doesn’t know what to do; he called me a few days ago to tell me it has gotten worse. She just lies in bed and stares,” I said.
“There isn’t anything we can do, love. I’ll go see her in a few days,” he said. He continued eating and feeding Adriel.
“Miles knows?” I said. He didn’t look up. “That’s fine. Love,” he said. I just shook my head because he was now just letting everything be. After dinner, I kissed Adriel and him and left with Miles and Ron. On the way to the club, we checked out the cameras.
“So Darla said she has a reservation for nine. We’ll use the room beside it. Shit. Never mind, we’ll pick up my laptop on the way there,” Miles said.
We stopped over at Miles’s place, grabbed his laptop, and left. When we got to the club, it was eight thirty. We used the back door; we didn’t want any of the diners seeing us. We headed to Darla’s office and explained why we needed to set up the cameras.
We headed up using the back stairs. Ron was with us. He helped us hide and connect the cameras and made sure the audio was working properly. We left and went to the room next door and waited.
At eight fifty, Celeste showed up. We saw when she walked into the room. Ten minutes later, Sophia Bloomfield walked in and took a seat. I looked at Miles, and he was already looking at me.
“Ron, we need to record this,” I said, looking at him. He came over and did something, and soon it was recording.
CELESTE: I thought you said it was a solid plan?
SOPHIA: It was.
We saw the server walk in. After she took their orders, she left.
CELESTE: Then explain how the fuck he survived.
SOPHIA: How the hell would I know? Did he tell the police how he survived?
CELESTE: No. Imagine my fucking surprise when I saw him. That other fucking bitch Kira disappeared also. God, and that little bitch Skylar walks around like she’s the best of all. Freya is an, facing traitor; she’s best buddies with Skylar. She even managed to get married before me, and I’m older. Emelda is no better. SOPHIA: Where is Emelda?
CELESTE: No fucking idea. She dipped. She was being transported, and she escaped, or someone helped her. Since then, she never reappeared.
SOPHIA: What do you want from the Rhys’s?
CELESTE: I want what rightfully belongs to us. Our wealth and our company.
SOPHIA: I want that little bitch to beg. I want her on her knees begging for mercy.
CELESTE: Well, after he disappeared, she didn’t go out, so I couldn’t get her. I saw them today. Today was the first time anyone saw the kid.
SOPHIA: Well, there is one way to get what we want.
CELESTE: Meaning?
SOPHIA: The kid.
I was already standing up, and Miles was on his phone, as was Ron.
CELESTE: Look, I’m all for revenge, but that’s an innocent soul. I’m not going after a child. Are you insane?
