Chapter 138 Get Information Out of Her

Laura was taken aback by Brandon's expression and quickly lowered her head, trying to appear meek and obedient as she stood behind Henry.

Henry noticed that the people around them, upon seeing Brandon, no longer dared to approach but were still pretending to be indifferent while eavesdropping.

He knew these people could be potential clients in the future, so he couldn't afford to offend them easily.

Moreover, he had indeed lost his composure earlier. The scene where he almost hit Monica made many people think he wasn't a loving father.

And with the complicated family situation involving two daughters and two mothers, it was hard to explain.

Kathie's family, especially Eugene, was once a titan in the medical field, and many older people still vaguely remembered him.

If old issues were brought up and a couple of witnesses testified, Laura could quickly be labeled as an illegitimate child of a mistress, making it difficult for her to marry into a prestigious family in the future.

Thinking of this, Henry took a few steps closer to Brandon. "Brandon, I'm really sorry about today. I have some matters to attend to, so I'll take Laura and leave now."

"You and Monica, take care. Come back for dinner this weekend. Monica misses her mom, doesn't she? Her mom's condition has improved; she can talk and walk now. If you're not too busy, try to bring Monica back for a visit. Monica's mom hasn't met you yet, right?"

"We'll see how it goes," Brandon replied, though the events upstairs were still fresh in his mind.

Brian and Seraphina wouldn't let Monica off easily, even though Brandon didn't believe Monica was the mastermind.

Especially after hearing what Laura said earlier, Brandon was more convinced that Laura might know more than Monica.

Seeing the instigator about to leave, Brandon changed his tone and said to Laura, "Since we're all family, there's no need to take the harsh words to heart. You don't have to rush off; the party is still long. Monica and I will go rest for a bit, and you can stay and enjoy yourselves."

Laura's face lit up with joy at Brandon's words. Her eyes sparkled like stars in the night sky, and she thought Brandon was interested in her.

She smiled sweetly and clung to Henry's arm. "Dad, since Brandon said we should stay, let's not rush off."

Henry was also reluctant to leave. This was a grand event hosted by the Robinson family, with many of Maplewood City's elite in attendance. He didn't want to miss the opportunity to network.

Seeing the opportunity to stay, he quickly agreed, "Brandon is right. I'll make a call; we're not in a hurry. Let's stay a bit longer."

Monica snorted, not wanting to deal with the hypocritical father and daughter any longer.

She turned to Brandon and said, "If you're not clueless, you should've picked up on what she meant by those two questions earlier. I suggest you look into it. I'm going to rest now; I'm beat."

"What do you mean?" Laura wanted to snap back, but Henry grabbed her arm, shaking his head and signaling her to stop.

Laura realized it wasn't worth reigniting the conflict. Since Brandon was already dissatisfied with his wife, she could take the opportunity to chat with him later.

Laura even went to the powder room to touch up her makeup, carefully drawing her eyebrows, applying bright lipstick, and spraying some perfume.

When she came out, she saw Brandon, who had just escorted Monica away, waiting at the door.

Blushing, Laura shyly played with her fingers and lowered her head. "Brandon, were you waiting for me?"

"Yeah," Brandon replied, looking Laura up and down.

He couldn't understand how two people with the same father could be so different in looks, body, temperament, and even intelligence. But their tempers were quite similar.

"Brandon, I knew you didn't really like Monica," Laura began slyly. "Monica used tricks to marry you. I always wanted to marry you, even when you were in a coma. I prayed for you every day and even dreamed of marrying you."

"But Monica found out and secretly ran away, using my identity to marry you. Brandon, my heart broke when I found out. I've liked you since school, but I never had the courage to confess. I didn't know how to express my feelings like Monica did. They say the brave enjoy the world first. Brandon, did I really miss my chance with you?"

Brandon frowned at Laura's nauseating confession. He took two steps back, leaned against the wall, lit a cigarette, and exhaled the smoke slowly.

Laura inhaled the smoke with a look of adoration. "You even look handsome smoking."

Brandon, irritated by Laura's pretentiousness, coughed violently, his chest heaving.

Laura's eyes lit up, and she eagerly reached out to pat his chest. Brandon reflexively pushed her away.

Laura stumbled and fell heavily to the ground, her face contorted in pain.

"Brandon, it hurts," Laura whimpered, her voice tinged with tears.

"Sorry, but please stand up. We're not that close, and I don't like people touching me," Brandon said coldly, stepping back to maintain distance. "What did you mean earlier?"

"What do you mean?" Laura feigned innocence, blinking with a look of confusion.

"Did you hear something downstairs that made you suspect Monica did something shady upstairs?" Brandon's eyes bore into Laura, demanding the truth.
