Chapter 137 Get Out

"Dad, why are you even bothering with her? Let her run her mouth. Honestly, it'd be better if she just aired out all her dirty laundry."

Laura stood up, brushing herself off, and snapped like a shrew.

"Look at this mess. Not a single Robinson family member has shown up. They just sent two bodyguards to tail her. Who knows if they're protecting her or just waiting to kick her out?"

"Maybe she screwed up big time upstairs."

Laura kept going on about what had happened upstairs, acting like she knew more about it than Monica, who was actually involved.

Monica's anger flared up again. She looked like she was about to take off her high heel and smash it into Laura's face.

Seeing this, Laura quickly hid behind Henry, sensing the murderous intent in Monica's eyes.

"What... what are you doing? Are you going to kill me to shut me up? Everyone, look! This is what happens when a mistress's daughter grows up—she becomes just as shameless and despicable."

Laura peeked out from behind Henry, shouting shrilly.

Monica finally snapped. Laura could insult her, but she would not tolerate any insults towards her mother.

Her eyes turned bloodshot, and like a raging lioness, she shoved Henry aside and grabbed Laura by the throat, pulling her close.

Laura never imagined Monica could be so strong.

Monica had to thank her teacher, Ethan, for that. After all, being his grad student meant the first lesson was always about lifting patients.

He often said, "If a surgeon can't lift their own patient, what are you going to do during an emergency? Perform surgery on the floor?"

So, pampered Laura was no match for Monica's strength.

"Let go!"

Henry tried to intervene, but Monica shouted, "Shut up. Don't you all want to know the truth?"

"My mother was Henry's legitimate wife. So why do I have an older sister by three years?"

"I'll tell you why. Laura is the illegitimate child. Her mother, Cheryl, and Henry stole my mother's and my grandfather's inheritance!"

"Stop it, you're crazy." Henry's face turned pale.

He rushed to cover Monica's mouth, trying to drag her out of the crowd.

At that moment, a strong hand appeared out of nowhere, grabbing Henry's arm and throwing him against the wall.

Henry was about to explode in anger, but when he turned, he saw it was Brandon.

"I never knew my wife and my father-in-law had such a strained relationship."

Brandon's voice was low and cold, like a winter chill.

"I believe my wife is an adult, right? Do you still think she's a child?"

"You think you can just lay hands on her? And on the Robinson family property, no less. You think you can insult and hit her without any consequences? Do you not respect me, Brandon?"

"Or do you think you can call the shots in the Robinson family now?" His eyes were piercing, making Henry shiver.

"N-no, Brandon. Monica was being disrespectful and had a little spat with Laura."

"I'm... I'm her father. It's my job to discipline her."

Henry quickly let go of Monica, plastering a sycophantic smile on his face, trying to appease Brandon.

"Is that so? Disrespectful or just telling the truth?" Monica sneered, her eyes filled with disdain.

"Brandon! Don't listen to her nonsense."

Henry rubbed his hands together, looking like a clown.

"Of course, Monica's mother and I were truly in love."

"But I knew Laura's mother even earlier."

"There's no such thing as a mistress. You know, a man can't love just one woman his whole life."

He tried to justify his actions with an awkward smile.

"I've never heard such shameless words in my life!"

Monica's voice was loud enough for the surrounding people to start whispering.

Henry's face turned grim.

"Exactly! What a scumbag! Shameless!"

"Yeah! What nonsense? A man can't love just one woman? So women have to be faithful?"

"Right! Who would've thought Mrs. Robinson's real dad would be like this? The Evans family daughter is off-limits!"

The crowd's murmurs were like daggers to Henry.

"Mr. Evans, I must say, your values and views on relationships are appalling!"

Brandon continued, looking down on Henry.

"What do you mean a man can't love just one woman?"

"As far as I know, there are plenty of loving couples in Maplewood City!"

"Your family's reputation will spread through the elite circles in no time."

"Like you said, Monica wasn't raised by you. Her mother raised her, so maybe she didn't inherit your values. That reassures me."

"As for your other daughter, good luck finding her a husband."

"Dad, aren't you going to defend me? You don't love her mother!" Laura stomped her foot like a spoiled child.

"Monica's mom is the mistress. I'm the rightful eldest daughter of the Evans family."

"You felt sorry for her, so you gave her a status! She's so ungrateful. Look, she's ruining my reputation, and I'm not even married yet."

She tugged on Henry's arm, whining.

Henry quickly signaled Laura to stop. "Enough, stop it. Look around, do you know where we are?"

"Your dad doesn't have the clout to control these people!"

"The more you talk, the worse it gets. Stop talking! If public opinion turns against us, no one can save us."

"Reputation is earned. Just call Monica and her mom what they are, and people will see us differently," Laura, like a madwoman, shouted.

"What's so sympathetic about a woman who steals someone else's husband?"

"Even if she marries into a wealthy family, so what? She might get divorced any day."

She shot a provocative look at Monica.

Hearing this, Brandon glared at her and said, "The Robinson family's marriages and divorces are none of your business. If you can't learn to shut up, then get out now."

Brandon's voice wasn't loud, but it was filled with authority, making Laura instantly shut her mouth.
