Chapter 20 Shield

Vivian curved her beautiful eyes and leaned her head on George's shoulder, smiling, "Mhmm, my boyfriend, George. How about it, aren't we a perfect match?"

Vivian was exceptionally beautiful, and countless people dreamed of winning her over.

Now, seeing her childish appearance, their hearts trembled and shattered.

Noah in particular, looked at George with disdain. If looks could kill, George would have died ten thousand times over.

The onlookers had strange expressions and all looked towards Noah.

Then, a guy jumped out, "Are you kidding me, Vivian? Noah has long been deeply in love with you. Everyone can see who you should choose, with that person next to you."

Someone nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, Noah is the young executive of the Kinsley Group, worth billions. If you marry him, you'll be the young lady of a wealthy family. As for that person next to you, the clothes on him cost only a few hundred yuan in total and are all dirty. Hey... which construction site did you come from? Have some self-awareness, can you match Vivian?"

"I'm a hundred times better than you, and I'm not qualified to pursue Vivian. How dare you be her boyfriend?"

"Vivian, are you joking? Look at him, what part of him can match you?"

The more they spoke, the angrier and more agitated they became, and their words became more offensive.

George remained calm, unaffected, and glanced at Vivian. He said seriously, "Life is priceless, and love is even more precious. We have said our marriage vows and promised each other that we won't leave or abandon each other, whether in poverty or wealth. Perhaps Vivian was moved by my sincerity! Besides, fortunes can change. Maybe after many years, I'll become the world's richest man!"

"Ugh—"

"Come on, wake up. Stop dreaming and talking about marriage vows!"

"Thinking about becoming the world's richest man? Really... even Ma, the horse, wouldn't agree, but I have to admire you."

"Vivian, where did you find this oddball? Isn't he an actor pretending to be a patient from your clinic? Just to agitate Noah? Get him out of here quickly. I feel sick just looking at him."

Vivian was angry, "That's enough, all of you. It's too much to insult my friend like this. I won't eat this meal. George, let's go."

Noah finally stood up, signaled with his hand, and spoke, "Alright, everyone, let's all calm down. Vivian's friend, let's not blow the matter up further.”

"He is my friend. Anyone who speaks nonsense, be careful, I might get really angry."

With just one sentence, he silenced the whole room.

Everyone obediently kept quiet, behaving like well-trained pets.

Miranda glanced around and immediately smiled, "That's right, Noah has the demeanor of a gentleman. He is a true gentleman. You men, who usually treat Vivian as your dream lover, must feel uncomfortable now that someone is pursuing her. Noah didn't say anything, so why are you all blabbering?"

She then turned to pull Vivian, persuading and playing the peacemaker.

After all, they were classmates. Vivian looked apologetically at George and pulled him to reluctantly sit down.

The conversation resumed, but the topics mostly revolved around Noah. Flattery and sycophantic comments were everywhere, turning it into a flattery convention, with everyone vying to flatter the most.

George couldn't be bothered to listen to all this. He just focused on eating his food. Well, to be honest, the dishes at Culinary Delights Eatery were truly exceptional. The high price of food was justified, as even a simple dish like cabbage had several layers of flavor unlike other places.

"George, this meat is delicious. Try some," Vivian placed a piece of lamb into George's bowl and smiled.

George nodded, "Mmm, it tastes really good. This fish is also nice. Here, let me serve you more. Eat more, it's good for your brain."

"Look at you, saying that. Have this, it's good for your kidneys."

The two of them fed each other, enjoying their meal without any regard for others around them.

Noah's eyes flared up, as if he wanted to devour George in one bite! He had arranged this dinner to pursue Vivian, but instead, he witnessed her displaying affection with another man. It was unbearable for anyone.

The classmates who were busy flattering also noticed something unusual and their gazes shifted.

Miranda spoke up, "Hey, you, George, is it? Have you never eaten such delicious food before? Do you usually eat boxed meals at construction sites? Hey, I'm talking to you, what do you do for a living?"

George swallowed a piece of meat and said, "I don't work at a construction site, and currently, I don't have a job."

Upon hearing this, everyone burst into laughter.

Noah glanced meaningfully at Vivian. He had pursued her for years, knowing her gentle nature and discerning taste. She definitely wouldn't be interested in someone like George, who was at the bottom of society. Most likely, this was just a game she played, to test his devotion towards her!

With this thought in mind, Noah pretended to be generous, "Not enough food, I'll order some more. A grown man should find a job. Being lazy won't do."

The crowd laughed again.

Miranda looked at George and said, "Noah, competition in society is tough. Some people can't find job opportunities. Why don't you arrange one for him since your big corporation seems to have opened a new company recently? Give him a janitorial job. It's better than leeching off his parents at home."

Noah shook his head, "That won't do. Vivian's..."

"Friend, if we're friends, at the very least, you should have a white-collar job. Xiao Lin, what's your major? Let me arrange something for you to ensure your satisfaction." George could see the sarcasm in Noah's eyes and retorted with a glance, "No need, I'm doing just fine now." Miranda sneered, "You really don't know what's good for you, do you? So you're the kind of person who likes to depend on their parents?" "A freeloader, living off others, do you understand?" "With your incompetence, do you really think you stand a chance with our beauties like Vivian? What are you thinking?" "Vivian, where did you find this weirdo? Are you joking with us?" Everyone chimed in, with offensive remarks filling the air.

In the middle of the unpleasant conversation, Miranda went to the bathroom, and Noah spoke up, "Alright, everyone has their own aspirations. Since Xiao Lin doesn't want to work, I won't push it. Let's talk about the new branch my family just opened. This time, we're actually partnering with the Fonda group, so the branch will be quite large. We anticipate hiring five thousand employees and we're also in need of management personnel. If any of you are interested, let me know. We're all classmates, and I guarantee that no one will be mistreated."

A girl exclaimed, "To actually partner with Fonda Group, that's impressive. Fonda Group is praised as the big brother of Riverdale, and I heard they even have an underground empire. Noah, that's amazing. I want to join your company." "Count me in." "Me too. Noah, you'll be my brother from now on." The flattery in the room continued, and Noah enjoyed the compliments. He glanced at Vivian, but to his surprise, she put down her chopsticks and stood up, saying, "I'm sorry, everyone. I still have to be on duty tonight, so I should go." "Huh?" "Vivian, you're leaving so soon?" Noah's brow furrowed, his expression turning sour. Why wasn't it going as he expected?

If Vivian had brought George to act out a scene, shouldn't it have continued, leading to his confession and her sheepishly accepting it? "I'm sorry, a patient is waiting for me." "George, let's go!" George stood up, nodded, and patted his stomach, satisfied from the meal. Despite being mocked by a few guys, he completely ignored them, considering them ants. He was happy to cooperate with Vivian's act and even enjoyed a free meal. However, at that moment, a scream could be heard from the entrance, followed by a loud slap. A panicked woman rushed in with torn clothes. It was Miranda, who had just gone to the bathroom. Accompanying her was an angry man, muttering curses.
