Chapter 83 Chapter 83
Violet
Nicole kept looking at him expectantly while I tried not to chuckle at the expression on Nate's face.
Nate gave me an even look as if to say 'I see what you did there' and then turned his attention to Nicole, cupping her face.
He used that patent smile of his that I used to find so endearing earlier. Now, it just made my skin crawl.
“I was just in a hurry to propose to you after months of waiting. I wanted it to be your special moment with your family so I simply sent my beta to fetch the ring for me, darling.”
He tried to pacify her but his words had the entirely opposite effect.
Nicole shrieked as if he had just admitted to have brought her a cheap plastic ring. “What? You sent your beta to get the ring?”
Nate tried to calm her down. “I wanted to board the flight with you and pack everything, remember?”
But she folded her hands on her chest, still not convinced.
“But you were planning for months…” She argued, pouting a little.
And as much as I would have loved to see what happened next, I had more important things to do back home.
“You both are truly made for each other” I said, taking them both by surprise. And from the corner of my eye, I noticed Elijah snort.
The comment landed perfectly and I swear I could see Nicole get uncomfortable just for a second. Noticing that her parents were also watching, I added.
“May your union last forever. Your exes must be crying right now to have let you go.”
I said that with the biggest smile on my face.
Nate’s face fell but I only stole a quick glance at Elijah who was smiling. Not smiling, grinning.
And that dimple of his showed up.
Goodness, why did he look so damn attractive when he smiled? My cheeks turned beet red as I saw him mouth.
“That’s my girl”
I tore my gaze away from him because maintaining eye contact with him in a room full of people was a recipe for disaster.
Nate furrowed his brows and noticed my wide smile, followed my gaze back at Elijah who was now casually leaning on a pillar, munching an apple.
He sneered for a brief second before turning his attention back to me.
“Surely, you will attend our marriage, right? In fact, I would like you to very much stay here with us until the wedding next month.”
Next month?
The room exploded in cries of surprise and excited squeals, none of which came from my mouth. Nicole’s mouth formed a big O and she was jumping up and down like her long lost wish was finally coming true.
“Are we getting married next month? Nate!!!”
She pulled him into a hug while the servants all clapped and rejoiced. Lady Aurelia’s eyes grew moist and alpha Alaric pulled her closer.
“Look at that. We are going to have a wedding in this manor after ages.”
The two held each other close meanwhile I wondered if I could slip outside undetected. Tehy could celebrate and rejoice all they wanted.
I didn’t even bother saying a word, just quietly grabbed my suitcase, trying not to roll my eyes as Nate and Nicole planned the event.
Elijah straightened his back as well and was about to step forward when Nicole’s voice rang again.
“Oh, Violet. Where are you going?”
“Home.” I answered flatly. “My parents must be waiting for me. Plus, I have a job.”
Nicole frowned, playing with the buttons on Nate’s shirt as she looked at me.
“But, I thought we were becoming friends. I don’t even have any girlfriends here and there are so many things for me to do.”
“I am sure there are several maids and friends of the Deveraux family who would be more than happy to assist you.”
I answered, trying to keep my calm. But she was hellbent on making me lose it.
“I know but I don’t know them. You are Cassie’s friend so can you be mine as well? I promise to be nice.”
She batted her eyelashes at me and Nate took the opportunity to jump in.
“Please Violet. It will be so much fun. We could all be a big, happy family.”
Yeah, in his dreams maybe!
“I have overstayed my welcome, frankly. I will send a nice wedding present for both of you.”
I said and wanted to excuse myself when Alpha Alaric stepped forward.
“I may not have known you for long but everybody keeps insisting you stay so there must be something special about you. Can you not stay till the wedding?”
What was I supposed to say to that?
My mind turned blank for a moment but then Elijah answered on my behalf.
“Have they even finalized the venue or the date yet? It doesn’t make sense for guests to stay without even knowing a date.”
My eyes flitted to him in relief that only lasted for a split second.
“Please Violet. Stay with us. We can have the wedding tomorrow if you want”
Nate joked and Nicole threw him a scandalized look. “What? There is so much to do? I need to go shopping, dress fittings, rehearsal dinners, creating vows etc.”
Nate looked at her and pouted. “Oh thats a good idea. You go with Violet and Cassie for all the shopping and plan everything with them. Meanwhile, I will prepare the guest list with the permission of the alpha and the luna.”
Nate muttered and Lady Aurelia was about to say something but Alpha Alaric corrected him.
“Please use proper titles, its Lady Aurelia not luna.”
The wide smile on LAdy Aurelia’s face crumpled upon hearing him say that but she masked it quickly.
“Sure we would love to be of any help needed.”
But she did look at her partner for a long, drawn out second before smiling again.
“In fact” Nicole screeched as if she had suddenly gotten a brilliant idea.
“Violet could be my maid of honor alongwith Cassie.”
All the maids gasped so loudly, it drowned the scream inside my head. What the fuck was happening?
Why couldn't these two just leave me alone and get along with their miserable lives? Why make it a point to include me in their wedding after throwing me out of my own home?
“Absolutely not!” I spoke far too sharply for the celebration to not be paused for a second.
I looked to Cassie for help because I was running out of ideas and she came to stand beside me.
“I…I have to go back with Violet to Ashville. We were working on a project and its important for her pack.”
I nodded miserably. “Yes! I should go. You can call your friends to the wedding, Nicole. I am sure they would all jump at the opportunity.”
Nicole did a fine job of acting like her world was crumbling just because I said no. Her lower lip trembled and her eyes grew moist.
“Its okay. I guess you still haven’t forgiven me.”
