Chapter 27 Chapter 27
Violet
“Rogues” Elijah answered that immediately made all the sleep drive off our eyes.
“Tyler, Gavin. Slowly get out. Violet- stay with Cassie in the car.”
“But Cassie looks hurt”
I said, looking at the thin line of blood trickling down her left temple.
Elijah had a conflicted look for a second but then he looked at his sister.
“We will get you to the doctor soon. Let me check if they are lurking around first.”
Cassie nodded and I began fishing for something to press on the wound and block the blood flow.
Elijah had already stepped out but Tyler and Gavin’s door seemed stuck because they were shoving and kicking it within seconds.
“Wait for us!” They shouted but he had already jumped up and was standing on the road, surveying the area.
My heart began to beat frantically. It was very dark as there were no streetlights around. And our car’s lights were barely any help.
I somehow managed to squeeze myself in through the space between seats when Gavin and Tyler finally kicked the door open and got out.
They forced it shut again as I scooted over to Cassie and we huddled closer.
“Shit. This is my fault. I should have never made him leave the city.”
“Shh, relax” I mumbled and pressed the sleeve of his jacket to her wound. It needed attention.
As soon as possible.
Meanwhile, outside I saw shadows lurking behind shrubs and I realized there were a lot of them.
Men, all dressed in black and wearing masks to cover their faces.
One in particular stepped forward and drawled,
“Look what came crawling out of that metal block. A useless alpha and his minions”
Elijah took a good look around and counted the numbers. There were too many of them.
Probably twenty or more versus the trio.
“We mean no harm. We are on our way home.”
That made the rogue leader laugh out loudly.
“Is that what you do when you find us trespassing your territory?”
He shouted in a loud and angry voice and took a step forward. “Do you?”
When Elijah didn’t answer, he continued. “You don’t. You kill us without a second thought. You think of us as some deadly disease. So, today you will meet the same fate.”
Elijah’s shoulders tensed, his stance widening. “Your territory?” His tone dripped venom. “Funny. I don’t see your mark anywhere. But then rogues don't have one, silly me.”
A low, collective growl rolled across the rogues, vibrating the air. Cassie whimpered somewhere behind me, clutching her arm where glass had sliced through her sleeve when Tyler kicked the window.
A low, collective growl rolled across the rogues, vibrating the air. Cassie whimpered somewhere behind me, clutching her arm where glass had sliced through her sleeve.
The leader tilted his head, watching us like prey. “Kill the men. The girls are mine.”
One second he was standing still. The next, he blurred. He slammed into the leader, both of them crashing through the grass. Tyler and Gavin moved instantly—two wolves against ten men.
“Get down!” Tyler shouted.
Cassie gasped as one rogue lunged toward her. Instinct took over—I swung a chunk of broken metal from the car door at him. He snarled and backed off, but not before slashing his claws across Cassie’s ribs.
She screamed, collapsing into me.
“Cassie!” I caught her, my hands slick with her blood
He turned just for a second and that second nearly killed him. A rogue slammed into his back, claws digging into his shoulder. Elijah roared and threw him off, snapping the man’s neck in one brutal twist.
Then the leader lunged again, tackling him to the ground. They rolled, a blur of fists, teeth, and blood.
Meanwhile I scrambled to find a first aid kit and do something other than just sit around and see the life drain out of Cassie’s eyes.
“Stay with me, okay!”
I fumbled with the bandages and tied them all around the gaping wounds but the blood soaked in the white cotton even before I had tied it around.
My hands were shaking but I forced myself to focus, to move.
Elijah’s eyes fell on Cassie and he let out a blood-curdling roar.
I had seen a few werewolves shift on rare occasions but not anything like this.
His spine shifted under his shirt, bones popping and reforming. His hands hit the ground, fingers stretching, splitting, claws bursting from beneath his nails. His clothes tore down the middle as fur rippled out in a combination of smoke-grey and silver under the moon
The rogue leader jumped up and shifted while Elijah jumped too land a punch in his ribs mid-air.
I pressed Cassie against the side of the wrecked car, trying to keep her upright. “Stay with me, Cass,” I pleaded.
“Vi… go,” she mumbled weakly.
“No chance.”
Elijah slammed one rogue into the ground and tore into its throat. Another leapt on his back—he twisted, threw it off, snapped its neck mid-air.
Blood sprayed across the grass, glinting like crimson ink in the moonlight.
Two more wolves joined Elijah and they began tearing down the rogues viciously.
The blood and gore was too much.
But I still couldn’t look away.
He turned, panting, his fur slick with blood. His eyes found me and Cassie, and for a moment I saw the man behind the beast—the desperation, the fury, the fear.
“Elijah!” I shouted in warning.
The rogue leader’s wolf lunged, sinking its teeth into Elijah’s leg. Elijah howled, grabbed it by the scruff, and slammed it against a tree so hard the bark split.
The rogue leader crumpled down on the ground, smacking against the roots but didn’t move.
Elijah’s wolf wanted to finish off what the rogue had started. But he stepped back reluctantly.
I didn’t have time to cry in horror or shriek in surprise because the trio transformed back into their human forms.
They were already limping towards the car while still naked and Gavin pulled out a bag from underneath the seats, threw some clothes out.
“Thank Goddess, my last memory wouldn’t be of seeing my brother’s naked butt.”
Cassie said weakly and I chuckled despite the lump in my throat.
Elijah quickly put on boxers anything and simply got in the car, and drove like we were in a formula race car.
Nobody made a sound or uttered a word this time as Tyler and Gavin quietly put on jeans and tried to keep Cassie awake.
But my eyes fell on Elijah’s wounds- the deep gashes that should have started healing but were instead letting blood soak in the car seat.
