Chapter 153
Chapter 153
Jett
Fuck! It turns out that Kitty has three broken ribs, her left leg has been smashed, well I mean the bones inside are shattered. She is finally out of surgery. They put pins into the leg and it sits in a thick cast high up on a bed sling. Her eyes are still closed. I was told she will be out for most of the night and some of the morning. Needless to say, she is heavily sedated.
My woman looks utterly broken, her nose is bruised, her chin and the side of her face. Thank God she was wearing all her protective clothing and her lid. I see way too many assholes bumming around on bikes in this place not wearing any protective gear. It takes one damn accident and your body will be a goner.
Ethan has been a jewel in the crown by calling the police to see what they can find out. As it happens, it was some prick on his mobile phone in the car whilst driving who didn’t see Kitty as he stove into her. It could have been worse; we all know that. Had it been a truck, Kitty would never have survived.
I don’t even want to think of the pain my woman will be going through when those eyes of hers open. My own heart feels shattered for her. Recovery will take at least six to nine months. Kitty is going to be a like a pissed off cat when she finds out she won’t be able to do hardly anything in that time.
“Hey, you need a break,” Leroy tells me as he hands me yet another one of those nasty cups of hospital coffee. I grimace but drink some of it. My eyes are heavy but fucked if I am going to fall asleep on Kitty. If she wakes up, I want to be here for her.
My father cut all his meeting short and is with me. My stepmom can’t make it, she is feeling pretty rough from the side effects of her chemo treatment. “Son, you should go home,” my father says as he places a hand on my shoulder. Your step mom could do with some company too.
I almost growl at him like a feral animal. “No fucking way. I am not leaving Kitty’s side. You go home to be with your wife and I will stay here for my woman.”
He doesn’t need to say that this only feels like a few seconds ago, that we were all in the same hospital with my stepmom. Fucking hell, I hate hospitals. The smell of them, the sounds of beeping machines, knowing people are dying or hanging onto their lives by a thread. It makes my stomach want to lurch out of my body.
Dad pulls himself up straight and gives me a look of concern in his eyes. “Fine, but make sure you get some sleep. You are absolutely no good to her if you can’t stay awake when she wakes. You should rest whilst she is sleeping.” He pauses and looks towards my gang. “Men, make sure he does and get some sleep yourselves. Thank you for being here for Jett. You’re good friends.”
I almost choke on the lump in my throat. My father never approved of me being a biker, even though he relented and bought me my first bike when I was younger. The fact I started up an M.C. was not something that impressed him. However, once he saw that I was serious about business and starting up a few garages between us, he finally conceded that I had become a smart business man. Seeing him shake hands with the guys and clapping them on the back, well shit, you know, it kinda makes me feel all emotional.
I blame it all on shock of what has just happened to my beautiful princess, as she lays in the hospital bed with her blonde, long hair all over the pillows. Her one hand as the monitor on it and rests on her stomach. She looks like an angel, peaceful and still. I’d give anything right now to see her wide eyed and using that razor sharp tongue of hers to pull me down a peg or two.
“I will walk you out,” Jackson says to my father. “I need to go and make a call to the wife. She is going to wonder where the hell I’ve gotten to.”
I jerk my head up in his direction. “Fuck, Bro. What? You haven’t even called her yet? You have been here for hours.”
He shrugs his shoulders. “She will be good. You know her, Jett. She never gives me grief. Being with you and supporting you is important. I’ll call her now and let her know I won’t be in tonight.”
“Hell, no you don’t. You are all going back home. I’ve got this. Kitty doesn’t need us all here,” I tell all my guys with a stern voice.
“Dude, we want to be here for you,” Ethan says from the chair on the other side of the room. His ankles are crossed over each other.
“I’m good. Honestly, go home get some rest and crack on tomorrow with the business side of things. This here with Kitty, well it is a sign. Listen, I’m not a firm believer in most shit, but I do believe that this is a sign for me to slow the fuck down and be more present for Kitty and my life. Not running all the businesses, clubs and the rest of the shit. Start making the waves happen.”
They know when I use this tone of voice they don’t stand a chance. They know they need to go and take care of business for me. Leroy mutters under his breath, Ethan gives me a pointed look, I shrug my shoulders. “Go on, I appreciate you all being here for me and staying this long. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind private time with Kitty and you know,” I say not finishing the conversation. They get it. And honestly, I don’t know when I became so emotional or attached to anyone like I have with Kitty. But it is plain and simple, I am. I love her and I never want to be apart from her.
They give me a nod and start to file out the door with my father as the nurse on duty comes in. He wears pale blue scrubs and those crocodile slip on things. He gives me a brief nod as he goes about checking the monitors that Kitty is hooked up to.
Ethan turns his head at the door. “Just give us a shout if you need anything,” he tells me.
“Will do and Bro, thanks for being here. Make sure the business side of things can be wrapped up. You have my lawyer’s details and the accountant. I will drop my lawyer a quick note in a few minutes to let him know I want to proceed and you guys will be handling it for me. No doubt I will need to sign something but we can do it all via Docusign or some shit.” Hell, I am not tech whizz, Ethan on the other hand is.
“You got it.” He closes the door behind me.
“How are things looking?” I ask the nurse whose name is see is Judd from the badge pinned to his top.
“She is doing well, nothing to worry about. Everything is perfectly normal. Should be awake in the morning. Are you planning on staying?” I give him a nod. “Okay then, how about I fetch you some extra pillows and a couple of blankets for the night. If you need anything else during the night, we will be in to check on Ekaterina and there will be a shift change in an hour so someone else will be on. Maisie will be here. Try not to push the button unless it is urgent.”
“Thanks, Judd.” He does a few more things and makes notes on the file at the end of the bed then gives me a last smile and leaves me alone with Kitty.
Finally, it is just her and I. My hand wraps around her small hand. “I love you, baby. I’m sorry this happened to you. Jesus, Kitty if anything happened to you and you were taken away from me, I honestly don’t know how I would cope without you. You are literally the air in my lungs, the air that I breathe.”
Tears roll down my cheeks. I can’t tell you the difference between the ones for gratitude she will be okay or the ones that are for what could have been.
All I know for sure is that this woman is never leaving my sight again.
I will move heaven and earth for her.
I will part the damn ocean if she asks me.
