CHAPTER FORTY SIX
Daemon's POV.
It's been a while since Damian and I had last spoken as I walked down to the meeting room, unaccompanied this time around, memories of my fist crashing into Damian's face, how he crashed into the passageway, the shock on his face as he was stopped short from trying to explain his rationale to letting Anya be imprisoned.
We met on the way to the common ground, two men looking at each other, afraid of saying anything harsh as our eyes locked, I turned away from him, walking into the room where the council members were already seated, our new friend, Margarita already seated, just like the rest of the council members had gathered, she had a worried look on her face like she really cared about us, I really never knew as I took my place.
"If I should guess, this is about the fate of Anya," I said as I took my position in front of them.
"What else, if it's not about the atrocity she had committed?" One of the council members spoke from where he sat, I sat still, gritting my teeth.
"Why is there even a meeting when she wasn't given time to defend herself?" I countered with a question of mine, leaving my gaze at the position where the council member had spoken from.
"There's an uproar and we have to settle the rage of the people." Our number one enemy spoke, his stomach rumbling as usual as he spoke, I scoffed, turning my face to where he was.
"What do you care about?" I asked, staring deeply at him, "If not for the position of Alpha, which I'm not sure you are suited for." I continued, standing my ground.
"We are not talking about the affairs of ruling the pack at this moment." He countered, avoiding the topic I had brought up.
"I'm not sure it's about that," I replied.
"He's right." I heard a familiar female voice speak, "That is not the subject matter at the moment." She continued, I turned my gaze to see it was Margarita, turning to Damian who had remained silent since he came in behind me.
"Don't tell me you are in on this too?" I asked her.
"I am not in on anything." She replied me, "This doesn't have to do with the Alpha position, it has to do with keeping the pack in one piece or risk tearing everything your father, the former Alpha built." She continued, turning away her face from me.
"And what do you propose to be done? Execute her so the pack can have their pound of flesh?" I asked the house, my gaze roving around them from where they sat.
"Yes." The first elder answered, "She would have to be executed." He continued.
"Don't tell me that," I growled, slapping my hands against the table as it turned to splinters.
"Don't do that." Mr. Ethan mouthed to me, I stared angrily at him before I continued.
"Don't tell me your former Alpha was so much of a saint?" I asked the whole room, watching as they turned heads at each other, in a bid to avoid the question, "I take your silence to be that I am right." I continued, pushing on my luck, "Your silence proves to me that he wasn't the good person the lots of you portray him to be." I stop to see their reaction.
"Being a bad person doesn't mean he had to be killed." The first elder spoke up.
"But if he isn't killed, he should continue killing and conquering more packs and amalgamating into his?" I asked the first elder, posing it as a question for any of the council members to answer.
"That's enough now," Margarita said, her tone showing she was obviously disturbed and infuriated by the questions.
"You can't tell me that all of you here gathered came from peaceful amalgamation and alliances?" I posed it as a rhetorical question, "That's as much as I thought." I said with a sneer, "You all seem to forget he was a man of conquest, you either bow or you're wiped off the surface of the earth, a conquest so bloody even the eyes of the outer world haven't delved into our world of werewolves, He had gone to her pack, razing them of their homes, their life and their dignity, turning whoever remained to be slaves." I continued, the room as silent as when a baby is about to commit a crime."
"Everyone has their flaws." The first elder spoke up from the silence.
"Yes, everyone has their flaws, but you all readily forgave the flaws of your beloved alpha, yet are ready to condemn a girl who was taken forced from her pack, turned to a maid in ours, and then forcefully made the mate of your beloved alpha in whom whose faults you have all forgiven." I continued, my mind troubled by the act of Damian remaining silent throughout the whole episode.
"It doesn't matter what you have to say Daemon." The first elder answered me, "Her head rolls out to the people." He continued, the majority of the council, if not all, muttering, their muttering all in approval that she should be executed.
"I see this meeting isn't heading anywhere." I spoke, and pained that whatever agenda that was set in motion was prevailing, "You all can leave." I continued, sighing deeply as I watched them murmur.
"Until another time." The first elder spoke, leaving the common ground, the other council members following behind him, their numbers dwindling until it was just Damian and me in the common ground.
"I'm sorry about my previous actions and attitude towards you lately," I said, trying to apologize as I turned to face Damian.
"You mean the part you punched me square in the face?" Damian said, pointing an index finger to the side of the jaw, I sat silent for a while, taking my eyes off him as I turned my face away.
"You can take a shot at me if that's what is going to pacify you," I answered him, still looking away.
"I don't need to do that." He answered me.
"If you might care to know." I said to him, standing up from where we sat, I did what I did cause I thought you betrayed Anya, that you never loved her, doesn't matter what you think right now about me, but that's just what I felt, still don't really care if you do, but I would be finding a way to make sure Anya gets away from whatever they have planned for her." I said, walking away from him, not giving him a chance to say a word to me.
I walked back to my room, dropping to the chair as I got close to it, my mind too busy to let walk to the bed to rest better.
"I haven't seen her since she got imprisoned, she must be mad at me," I muttered to myself as my neck hung loosely over the edge of the chair. "Wouldn't she be mad at me for not coming earlier?" I asked myself, my brain firing at every case scenario, happiness, joy, sadness, pain, or just a combination of any of them, I sighed as the thought flitted through my mind.
"What about the pack? What would they say if you were to be found with her?" Another thought came rambling into my head, I sighed, laying deeply back into the chair. "What do they care about?" I said, the word coming out of my mouth out loud, "Fuck all this shit and whatever they do." I cursed out loud, sitting straight in the chair.
"I'll be doing it, no matter what, they won't be stopping me," I said out loud, stealing my resolve for what I was about to do.
