Chapter 77 Blatant Threat
Lily saw Jane's panicked expression and laughed excitedly. While tidying her messy hair, she glanced sideways at Jane, "Are you scared?"
My heart tightened. It seemed Jane really had some secrets. No wonder she told Jack not to say too much. But how did Lily know?
I shook my head. What a complicated family.
"Lily, shut up!" Jane hugged Mason tightly, looking at Lily in disbelief.
"Alright!" Lily said as she tidied her torn clothes. Suddenly, she stepped forward and slapped Jane hard. Jane staggered and fell onto the sofa with the child in her arms.
Mason, who had just stopped crying, rolled onto the floor and started crying again in fright.
Seeing this, I became very angry.
Jane, at the very least, possessed a semblance of conscience. Disregarding her own countenance, she promptly rose, stooped to retrieve Mason, enfolding him in a reassuring embrace. Addressing Lily, she exclaimed, "Should you instill fear in this child, absolution will elude you!"
I had to admit that Jane really cared about Mason.
Lily glanced at Mason, whose face was red from crying, paused for a moment, and then snorted coldly, "Neglecting the child is on you, it's your fault."
"You--" Jane was furious, trembling all over.
Lily, however, calmly smoothed her pulled-out hair. She said slowly, "Jane, hit me once more, and I'll ensure you regret it forever! Think I'm oblivious to your schemes? Still hungering for household dominion? Dream on!"
"Don't mock me, you're no better!" Jane retorted, her neck stiff like a fighting rooster. On the surface, Jane had won the fight, but she was utterly defeated.
"I'm not like you!" Lily said shamelessly, "I just want to take what you want. Don't think you're so great. You can see, as long as I want, everything is mine!"
"I don't want to steal 'Mrs. Hall's title. I just enjoy serving Mr. Hall. Whenever he wants, I can have sex with him!"
As she spoke, she played with her hair, smiling mockingly, "Oh, by the way, should I give Mrs. Hall a heads up? Can't betray her goodwill. She's so kind, though a bit naive. I'm more than happy to assist her!"
Faced with Lily's blatant threat, Jane was clearly powerless. Although she glared at Lily, her eyes had lost their fierceness.
"Stop talking nonsense! Lily, don't push me!" Jane stared at Lily and spat out the words.
Lily scoffed, "Wrong choice of words! Feeling brave, huh? Think your deeds are hidden? Nope. Secrets don't last." Her eerie gaze said it all.
Jane quickly asked, "What did you do to Jack?" She clearly knew her sister well. This was exactly what I suspected.
"Jack? That big fool, what could I do to him?" Lily arrogantly flicked her now smooth hair, "Do I even need to do anything to him? Just a crook of my finger, and he has to crawl over and serve me well!"
"Otherwise, how would I know about your dirty deeds? I know you killed that woman. What do you think Mr. Hall would do to you if he found out?"
Hearing this, I felt a chill down my spine and stared at Mason in Jane's arms, wondering if she would harm my children if she didn't get what she wanted in this family.
In the surveillance footage, Lily looked very arrogant, showing a sharp and mean side that was completely different from her usual docile demeanor. But at this moment, Jane was already powerless to resist.
Jane hated her but didn't dare to hit her.
Jane had lost all the advantageous opportunities she once had.
And I had witnessed Lily's darkness, cunning, and ruthlessness.
Lily pressed on, "Jane, should I go or should you? Or are we stuck playing house here? Just a heads up, that $240 was cute, but it's not cutting it. If you're handing Jack $3,000, you better even the score for me too. Family and all that jazz. Oh, and guess what? Fancy having Jack snoop around Mr. Hall's other side piece and her kid?"
As soon as she said this, Jane was stunned.
