Chapter 75 New Content in the Surveillance

"Darling, I was wrong!" John finally conceded, "I'll be more mindful in the future and be a good dad!"

I smiled bitterly inside. He was a good dad, but not to my child.

"Next semester, Johnny won't be boarding anymore. She'll come back home!" I demanded, "After all, they're still young!"

"Is your well-being up to the task?" John inquired, his concern a façade.

"I'll cope. My offspring deserve a serene habitat. That stands firm for me! Their return is non-negotiable as long as breath resides in me!" My declaration rang resolute.

I slowly lay back down. I was truly exhausted, barely holding on.

"Alright, we'll do it your way!" he conceded, "Are you not mad anymore?"

He leaned in closer.

"Go to sleep. We still have to take Bobby to school tomorrow!" With that, I closed my eyes.

I was secretly anxious. It seemed I really needed to go back to Cresthaven.

The next day.

I headed straight to Bobby's room the moment I got up. Upon arrival, I discovered Jane already present. Slightly irked, I addressed her, "I've got Bobby covered from here on out. No need to stress. Just focus on breakfast! Bobby's running late for school."

She handed me Bobby's clothes and turned to leave.

I noticed that Bobby wasn't as clingy with her as he was in the video I saw. This was a good sign.

Bobby remained in the early stages of youth. It was essential for me to gradually reaffirm his reliance on my guidance. Considering my present state of health, a transitional phase was imperative for personal recuperation.

I failed to encounter Lily at the breakfast table, and I refrained from inquiring. Following the assurance that Bobby had partaken of his morning meal, I escorted him to school. His demeanor exuded a notable contentment this day. Prior to his ingress into the educational institution, he pivoted to offer me a wave of farewell, whereupon he hastened indoors.

I smiled as I watched him run into the school building before turning back to my car.

I was really tired, so I drove straight home and called Steve, asking him to have someone close watch on John and Sophie. I needed to put some pressure on Sophie.

Steve chuckled knowingly, "Don't worry. I'll make sure John is overwhelmed. The person I arranged will be in place today."

"So soon?" I was a bit surprised. Steve's efficiency was impressive.

He teased, "What? Do you think things are moving too fast? Should we wait a bit longer?"

I said mockingly, "Of course not. They've been living too comfortably and have become complacent. Now is the best time for me to act!"

Thinking about how I mocked John last night, exposing the truth he least wanted to admit, made me feel great. I needed him always to remember the mark of his lowly origins, which could never be erased.

Steve laughed on the other end, "I love it when you're cheeky! But I must remind you, don't have any more sexual relations with John. He's already in trouble!"

My face turned red instantly. Luckily, this was over the phone; otherwise, I'd be really embarrassed.

"Absolutely!" I said awkwardly, "I don't eat crap!"

Steve laughed even more uncontrollably, but I felt embarrassed.

Back home, I quickly took a nap. I had indeed walked too much yesterday, and my whole body ached.

When I woke up, the house was quiet. No one was home, and it seemed Jane had gone out again.

I ate something casually and lay back in bed, checking the surveillance records. I made a discovery and quickly opened the footage.

The footage was from after I left yesterday. As soon as I went out, Jane called John, saying I had gone to Bobby's school.

In a disgruntled manner, Jane expressed to John over the phone, "What intentions do you harbor in facilitating her recuperation? Do you not perceive her awakening as a potential menace to our interests? Her gaze always seems peculiar when directed at me, and you should exercise caution."

I couldn't hear John's reply, but Jane looked increasingly dissatisfied. She angrily said, "I'm not feeling guilty. After all, you're the mastermind who wanted her dead. I'm just your accomplice. Whatever your plan is, I'm warning you, Layla isn't stupid. You better not mess with Lily. She's not a quiet person. If Layla finds out, we'll both be in trouble."

John's reply on the other end must have been harsh. Jane's face grew worse as she listened.

Finally, Jane said something ruthless, "John, I have made considerable sacrifices on your behalf. Please refrain from attributing ruthlessness to me. My indifference..."

John probably didn't respond and just hung up, making Jane so angry that she threw her phone to the ground.

She was furious!

In the subsequent scene, Lily returned home with Mason following her workday, exuding a cheerful aura. I observed Jane approaching them, enveloping Mason in an embrace, "What caused your delay? Did we not establish a rendezvous for 4 P.M.--"

Before she could finish, her eyes were drawn to Lily, staring intently.
