Chapter 23: The Silhouette

Zora's POV

I scowled at Mira. "I can go to any length to know the truth Ken." I said and faced him.

"You should have discussed it with me first." Ken said. That statement got me angry.

"Why would I do that?" I said coming face to face with him.

"Because you are my mate." His voice was beginning to rise.

"Uhmm Ken..?" Marco voice sounded scared.

"That doesn't define our relationship now does it?" I told him.

"But you are my mate." He said with pain evident in his voice.

"Don't you feel anything at all?”He asked with hope.

"I don't" I lied.

"You will regret this." He said and left.

Mira looked like she just won a trophy.

"Zoe…” Marco said stepping back.

"What?" The anger was still bubbling up.

"Your eye," Mira said in fear.

I ignored them and left the pack house. Acting this way won't solve any problem but what else could I do? I was anxious to know the truth about my biological parents and this opportunity will not pass me by.

I freshen up and called Justin. "Meet me later at the garden." I told him after explaining the latest development to him. He disapproved of it at first because Ken was not involved and he claimed it could be a dangerous move to leave the pack without informing Ken.

"Can I come in?" Irene's head popped around the door. She looked apologetic. "Yes" I said and gave her a small smile.

She walked into the room and closed the door behind her gently. "There was nothing I could do." She said with her hand still on the door knob. I understood her perfectly well but pretended to look angry.

"You have to make it up to me" I said and picked up my phone, as this was a chance to do what I had planned to do earlier. "Arrange a meeting with Kay." She slightly narrowed her eyes at me. "Why..? She said and folded her arms across her chest. "I'm sure you know why" I chuckled at her immature behavior.

She rolled her eye and pulled out her phone from the back pocket of her jeans. We weren't exactly friends but she was way better than Mira.

'Sure?’ the voice in my head said but it came out as a question rather than a statement.

"Hey" She said sweetly when the person who picked the call. "Zoe asked to meet with you by evening." She said, Kay? I didn't expect her to call him right away. I could feel his happiness on the other end of the phone.

"Alright" She replied after a few words were exchanged.

"It's set." She returned her phone back to the same place. "We have nothing to do with each other anymore." She informed me with a serious face. "Thanks Irene." I told her. She looked surprised but masked it with a look of indifference and left.

'I guess she is not that bad', the voice in my head said and I agreed by nodding my head. I need to find out what this voice is, before I start acting insane in a public place.

Before the stipulated time, I went to the garden for a breath of fresh air. The events with Ken kept replaying in my head like I made a mistake or something.

How could he just think that I have to inform him before doing anything? That alone annoyed me but I ignored it and decided to have alone time before the meeting. The outcome of the meeting will determine if I will still be here by tomorrow, I thought. I missed home and Cassey. It's been a month since I last saw them. My mind then drifted to Julia. I miss my best friend, she would have arranged all this stuff about my parents if I had told her about my real identity before now. Hopefully we will still be friends after all this is sorted out.

The sweet lavender called out to me and I walked towards its cave -like area.

About two minutes into the dance, I heard a sound, more likely a soft whistling, then nothing.

Then my phone rang. "Justin" I said. "Zoe leave the…" He said in a frenzy before he was interrupted by a knock. "Justin!!" I called in fear. What could be the problem? Immediately I opened the cover of the lavender to head back to the building, something pricked my hand.

I stopped and looked at the area where it pricked me, there was nothing visible there but it hurt so much. My phone slipped from.my hand and I stumbled. What the heck was that? I looked around and saw nobody. I tried to stand straight but I couldn't. "Zoe, leave the garden now!" Justin's voice came through the phone before it stopped abruptly.

I tried to pick the phone but fell down in the process. My eyes became drowsy, 'Justin help' I screamed but no words left my mouth.

Then a shadow appeared and stopped right in front of my phone. I struggled to get my hands on my phone using the last bit of strength I had left, but it only moved an inch before stopping. I could only see the silhouette of the figure but I couldn't tell if it was a man or a woman.

"Take a nap Luna '' The familiar voice I heard the first day I set my foot in the garden said to me. Then darkness enveloped me and I lost consciousness.

"Zoe!" A voice I had grown accustomed to said. Why was she here again? I thought but tried to open my eyes nevertheless.

My eyes felt heavy and weak. When I finally opened it, I found Irene staring at me.

"Irene?" That was the only word that left my mouth before I noticed we occupied the back seat of a car. That wasn't all, there was someone else aside from the both of us driving. I was too weak to get a good look at the drivers face before sleep engulfed me.
