Chapter 12: The Encounter
Kenzi's POV(Before he met Zora)
I knew what I had to do next. Instead of going tomorrow, I decided to leave today.
"Follow the back exit, you will find everything waiting for you." He said and gave me a pat on the back.
"Thanks man." I knew he had an idea about what I wanted to do. But he didn't show it. I left immediately taking my bag from his room and headed straight to where the car was packed.
I dialed Jasmine's number to inform her about the update.
"Please tell the guys I would be back soon." I told her after giving her the details.
It was a mid size SUV vehicle. I open the door and drove off. But instead of taking the normal route, I drove through the path of Amazona's boundary. Dangerous move but I couldn't risk seeing my father.
I drove for almost half an hour before I got to the main road that lead to the community gate. When I got to the gates, Brian and Kelly were there in their usual spot. There was no need for lenghty conversations, Jeff already took care of it. The gate was opened and I drove out signing.
If I don't take any action now, I would regret it. The community was not bothered since they were not affected. I drove endlessly heading to the human city.
It was morning time when I left and I got to the human city around nightfall. The sight of the school was a clear sign that I was on the right way. Though the road was deserted, I guess no human take this path because it only leads to two places: the werewolf community and the haunted mansions.
Stories about the haunted homes wasn't just popular in the werewolf community, it was more in the human world and cities. I continued driving until I saw them. Two wolfs walking around casually. It wasn't common so I tracked them down even thou I had a destination, this was more important. I moved with my car discreetly until they got to a huge building that looks like an estate and got in. I don't know how they did this without being caught but I will find out.
I turned the car around and was about to leave when something else caught my attention. Vanilla and lavender mixed together floated to my nose. 'Mate' I thought. Even though we don't have all our werewolf abilities, we can still detect our mates scent. It was the only thing we could do which was still holding us up.
I stopped the car and came out looking at the estate again. If my mate was in there, I can't just leave her in there with the wolves. I thought and stayed back in the car.
The next morning, I couldn't sleep because of the thoughts that were running through my mind. I took out my phone to dial Jasmine's number to give her the news. She mocked me for waking her up that early.
"I just couldn't wait and if you had told me about her earlier I wouldn't have called you know." I said arrogantly. She just laughed and wished me well.
I hung up and waited. I was ecstatic but I didn't want to scare her away. If I heard my abilities I would have heard her voice and maybe a quick peek will do too. The latter made me smile.
At exactly 6:09am, I saw her. My jaw dropped open and I didn't bother to close it up. I watched as she came out of her apartment in her loose synthetic top and running shorts shoes. Her hair was tied into a messy bum with loose strands framing her face. I was tempted to go and talk to her but I restrained myself. She stretched and did some dance moves smiling widely. It warmed my heart to see my mate happy. I relaxed on the steering admiring her.
Then an interruption came in. A guy about 6.8ft tall came out from the apartment next to hers and they did this high five thing with my mate. My grip tightened on the steering turning my knuckles white. Are they friends or what. Why were they smiling at each other. I couldn't hear what they were saying which angered me more. He was wearing black on black. A girl who looked like the guy came out of the same apartment as the guy.
I was a little relieved because the girl was dressed in running outfit just like my mate but the sight of the guy next to her irritated me. I relaxed when the girl and my mate came running towards the walk way down to the road that leads to the street opposite where I packed.
I watched as they spoke to each other giggling. I felt the urge to take her picture but didn't. I decided to pay her house a visit later. I drove in their direction and watched as she had fun. Saying 'hi' here and there to people they came across.
Not be be seen as a stalker I drove away to look for a place to stay for a while before I figure out how to take my mate with me. I wanted to call Jasmine but this has to be handled manly. I smiled when I pictured her face.
Later that day, I went back to the house my mate came out from earlier that day to say hello.
A woman in her early forties, light brown hair and brown eyes answered the door and gave me a little smile when she saw me. She was obviously human.
"Good evening ma'am." I greeted.
"Evening dear, who if I may ask" She questioned.
"My name is Kenzi, I actually came here for a lady whose name I don't know yet." I said carefully not to give the wrong impression.
"Who?” She inquired slightly narrowing her brows. That made me speechless because to be honest I didn't know what to say.
"Because you may likely be in the wrong apartment" She finished when I didn't answer immediately. I exhaled slightly.
Then I described my mate and the smile was back on her face again.
"You must be talking about Zoe" She said again. It was now my turn to smile.
