Chapter 52 - The call
Fiona's POV.
‘What the actual fuck did that mean? Does it mean Gladys couldn't even wait as I told her to before having her escape plan executed?’ I muttered as I walked to and fro in my room that same morning after breakfast. Devan and Christo headed out with several werewolves for research throughout the entire citadel and the whole of DarkVille since she may not have gone far.
I was so angry because I was the last person who saw her in the dungeon before her sudden escape. Now fingers would point at me for having a hand in it, especially Devan. I picked up my cell and her immediately.
“Hello, Luna.” She said from the other side of the phone.
“You daughter of a bitch!”
“Pardon?”
“You heard me right, you are a bastard!”
“Fiona, listen I don't think you're with your right senses right now, maybe when you're cool we could talk, alright?”
“Gladys I trusted you, we had an agreement and that was going according to plan, all you do now is stab me in the back?”
“Stab you at the back? Last I checked I played your silly game at the dungeon, I acted like we had a fight and you hit me countless times before the guards came into play, no one would dare hinder my escape, and even if they would, they wouldn't come out openly to accuse the Luna of the pack for such without proof, it'll be treason, and you know it.”
“Gladys, what did I tell you to do? You had just one job Gladys, one! And why was that? Wait!”
“Oh come on don't fucken kid me, you think I don't hear rumors even from the dungeon? Maybe you should enlighten your guards over there, they talk too much.”
“Gladys, you know what? Someone so dear used to warn me about you, he always told me to avoid anything to do with you but what did I do instead? I let my sympathy crowd my sense of rational reasoning to the point it had me fooled, you for one? You're a betrayer.”
“Fiona, would you shut the fuck up? You and I know very well that anything could happen if I refuse to give them any tangible info on me or whom I work for as they demand. Do you think Devan would let me go just like that? Or Christo?”
“Christo? Why Christo?”
“Oh, my bad, I think I didn't mention this earlier, your lover boy is on a serious hunt for me right now or he would be soon, but, I don't give a damn fuck, all I know I need to get so far from you guys from henceforth, maybe even you.”
“Gladys, what did you do to Christo?”
“Well, it's a sad one anyway and I must confess I am really sorry about that. Kouvou his brother was amongst the gates who chased me last night and I had to use my powers on both, I killed both of them, Kouvou is Christo's Nephew who also got recruited into the DarkVille Guard of late.”
“What! Gladys, you did what? You see why I told you not to get out of there, I had things under control, I had made the sleeping portions for the guards at watch so your passing would be smooth and not suspicious.”
“And what did you think Devan would do to them when he discovers I slip through their fingers at night? He would applaud them? Or perhaps say ‘Oh faithful servants, it's alright mistakes, I forgive you'.
This was the only part of our conversation that made sense to me that I had to ponder on. Devan wouldn't spare them though, but I was his antidote, his medicine, he wouldn't prosecute them under my watch, maybe a punishment would have been suitable since Gladys would still be caught someday.
“Gladys, you know what? I don't think I would have to trust you anymore, you broke that from today.”
“Can you imagine? What the actual fuck, amongst the both of us who owes the other a favor? Huh? Look Fiona I think you are having mixed feelings about Devan seeing you differently, the truth is I would always remain, Devan has never seen you as the Isabel he lost months ago and he is just trying to adjust to the new, you have to be wise my Lady, I mean you no harm, that's not my being.
I have only one person here to contend with and that's Christopher and it's over the death of his Nephew, I owe him a debt, but you see Calli's brother Jim? She killed him herself, not me and, mind you, try as much as possible to talk some sense into your beloved Alpha, because the next time he crosses my lane, I'll seize his breath, don't think I need to be there to do this, you wolves have no idea what we witches are capable of.”
She ended the call at the moment and just then Susan walked into the room.
“Sister, are you alright?”
“Yes, I am, is there a problem?”
“Brother wants to speak with you, he is with some members of his council.”
“Oh, I see, is that right away or…?”
“Of course, Isa, right away. He wants to have a briefing with all of us regarding Gladys' disappearance.”
We both walked out of the room and headed outside where Devan had an iron one talk with Lord Agrippa. I wanted to come in between like I was a part of the meeting but he signaled for me to wait behind.
I had to go back to the concrete chair where Susan was and sit alongside her.
“What do you think about her escape?” Susan asked, looking ahead like she took to herself.
“Her escape? Well, I think she had to wait for the perfect time to do that, nothing more, she is a witch and no one knows what witches are capable of.”
“Hmm, funny.”
“What?”
“Well, myself you know what I think? I think someone helped her escape, like come on, 4 doors, 4 iron doors and she was on chains which has powerful magic to keep her from casting spells and incantations. I think someone helped her escape, and that someone isn't just a nobody, I think it's within us. My brother thinks that person could be an attendee of the last meeting held at the courtroom yesterday.”
I felt seeing Devan take it this far, it seems Gladys was right after all and had to make her way on time.
I didn't know what came over me when Devan called for me at that instant he talked with Agrippa. I dropped my phone on the concrete and went towards him.
Just as I was with Devan, my cell vibrated, and guess who called Gladys. Susan saw it as it did vibrate and picked it up at once listening to the voice from the other side of the phone who spoke out.
“Hello?”
