Chapter 51: Drama queen
Fiona's POV.
It was morning and soon the prisoner would be brought before the council for questioning. I just hope she gives no answer at all so that would buy her enough time following the plan the both of us had last night.
I was washing my feet in the bathtub when one of the maidens came into the room with my linings which I had given her to wash previously.
“Here it is, my lady.”
“Oh, Margret, thank you. How are you today?”
“I am fine thank you, my Lady.”
“Trust you he has a nice sleep.”
“Yes, I did, my Lady.”
She stood erect like an electric pole while I walked out to the bathroom straight tithe table where she had kept the linings for me.
“Wow, they are dried up, fresh, and clean, why isn't this part of the clothing dried?”
I felt some moist area on it.
“My lady I am sorry, I never thought that part of the cloth wasn't dried to the fullest, please permit me to take the lining back to the rope to have them dried.”
“Don't bother my dear, I think maybe you should be mindful of how you go off duties lately to see him.”
She became so shocked and watched me in surprise.
“I…I.. don't understand you, my Lady.”
I smiled at her and drew closer.
“I know you sneak out at night to Victor's house, I had my guard follow you once and he did. Do you love him that much?”
She didn't know if giving back a reply was a smart decision, keeping quiet wasn't also one. She had to give answers.
“My Lady, I…”
I saw she felt frightened so I patted her on her back. She couldn't do more but smile back at me before she finally began.
“My Lady, it all began last month, Victor promised to take care of me and ask to marry me, I love him so much, My Lady.”
I almost laughed out on hearing what the young lady had said but I held myself. I only had a puff of my mouth and tried as much as possible to hold it.
“You aren't to take his words to heart so dear, all men have their flaws, he may end up breaking your heart, don't be deceived, my dear.”
She kept mute before voicing out like she forgot.
“Oh, my Lady, food is ready.”.
“Hmm, you never mentioned that since, well I was on my way to the dining room, I felt famished.”
I gave her a wink while she left the room before I did afterward.
I walked to the dining and discovered Susan was almost done with hers.
'Thank goodness, I never wanted her to be a part of Devan and me at the table. She took her leave after hugging me.
“Sister.”
“Hey, Susan, Good morning.”
“Good morning too, hope you had an awesome night's rest?” She asked with a smile holding my both shoulders.
“Yeah, of course, how about you?”
“Same here sis.”
“I see you are done with the meal already, you're almost leaving.”
“Naa, not almost, I am leaving.”
“I should join your brother from where he stopped.”
“Absolutely,” she smiled and walked away.
Within me, I sensed some atom of acceptance in her but couldn't point my finger at it.
“You are late for breakfast, why is it?”
“I am sorry sweetheart, I woke up a bit later than before.”
“Well eat up, you must be famished.”
“Of course my Lord.”
I smiled and had a bite from the turkey he had prepared for me himself that morning. Yeah, you heard me right, he had prepared breakfast for the family, and to my greatest surprise, it was awesome and tasty. I enjoyed the meal not until he asked.
“You met with the witch?”
“Yes, I did.”
“What did she tell you?
“Tell me? Nothing I tried I could. She never said a thing to me.”
He kept a close look at me before he continued.
“You wasted time with her at first, what were you talking to her about or asking her?”
I felt a bit embarrassed again at my Alpha for trying to see me as a potential suspect for heaven knows what.
“What are you trying to do, Devan?” I asked with the fork halfway in the air with a pound of meat on it.
“I am just asking a question, that's all.”
“A question you say, so you would want to link me with that good-for-nothing fool in the prison yard, In fact, you don't get to set my eyes on her again because I'll kill her right away.”
“No Isabel, she isn't yours to kill, you know us over here in DarkVille have how we do things and it's always following the law, custom, and wolf code.”
“Does the wolf code permit the Alpha to label the Luna a suspect in matters like this?”
“Isabel calms your nerves. You know my position is a very sensitive one and as such, I must take a proper look into every single action we take here.”
“Devan you think because I couldn't have the stake right through her doesn't mean I still don't harbor such for her. I hate her and would love to see her dead as soon as possible.”
I stood up and lined the fork on the table angrily and almost walked out on Devan and headed straight to the Dungeon room before he held me by the hand and pulled me back to himself.
“Hey, please don't do that, you aren't being blamed, I just felt curious because you wasted time at the Dungeon when you went to her. Look, Isabel, I know it's hard for you to believe me.”
I calmed my nerves and walked slowly back to my food while he walked beside me.
I was so proud of myself for putting on such a dramatic scene. Heaven knows I smiled inwardly while I had the fork and knife to bring the turkey and rice before we both heard a warning bell coming from the citadels chapel and that could mean one thing.
Christo walked into the dining room immediately all alongside two other werewolf guards as Devan stood to his feet.
“My Lord, it's the prisoner.”
“The prisoner, and what about the prisoner?”
“She's gone.”
