CHAPTER 18

Cammy was nervous as she thought over the different scenarios in her head. She didn't know what could have happened and why she had given her such a cryptic answer.

“Why what happened?” She asked and there was silence on the other dnd for a moment before she heard some slight anuffling. “It's bad cammy. Something very bad has happened and that is why I need you to come home so that we can work on fixing this.” Was all that she said to her.

She could feel her heart race against her chest as several scenarios of what could have happened raced through her thoughts. The last thing that she wanted to do was to assume the worst of the situation but she wanted to be sure that her best friend was okay.

She knew that it looked bad that she was racing out of work again but she had to go. She hoped that her boss would understand what was going on eventually. At least that was what she wanted to believe.

She made her way quickly to a tazy as she felt her heart race as she made her way towards Rachel's house. She stilled when the car came to a stop in front of the building. Her mouth formed into an o at the sight of her standing on her porch with her arms crossed over her chest.

“What happened?” Was all she managed to say to her as she stumbled to her feet and looked over her. She seemed fine for now but she didn't miss the scowl that was still prominent on her face.

“I don't want you to freak out but I had just come back from work and I wanted to unlock my door but froze when I realized that someone had broken into the house already. I was yenze at first as I didn't know how to react to it. And so I was cautious as I took the slow steps into the house. My blood ran cold at the sight of what I was met with was one that shattered me to the core.” She said to her as she felt her body shudder at the very thought.

She sucked in a deep breath as she didn't want to think about what was bound to come from her mouth. She didn't want to assume the worst but she had a bad feeling of what she was about to say. “What is it that happened?” She asked her shakily.

“The house had been ransacked. There is glass everywhere and they have made a mess of it. I am afraid to go inside myself. I don't know if they are still there but something tells me that they were looking for You.” She said to her and she felt her body run cold at her words.

Her hands trembled slightly as she sucked in a deep breath. Cammy didn't want to think that this was her fault. That there was any chance that she had anything to do with what was going on.

“I am calling Nathan now. He said he is on his way here and when he comes we can go inside but I have never done anything to anybody. I have always been a good person and I have never done anything wrong so why is this happening to us? You on the other hand have garnered a lot of enemies``. She said to Cammy.

She felt her throat dry up at her accusing tone and she sucked in a deep breath before shaking her head at her in response. “You know that if I had any other choice i wouldn't have but they were trafficking innocent people and i couldn't have just sat there and allowed it to happen. I had to put a stop to it. You know that and you would have done the same”. She said to her that she didn't know why she had suddenly become defensive but she dont like the fact that her own best friend was accusing her somewhat.

“Actually when i started getting threatened instead of telling them to come at me with all that they got i would have stood my ground and i would have gone low key. It wasn't my battle to fight and I wasn't going to become anybody's white savior.” She said to her in response.

She felt hurt by her words. She had always thought that her friend would be there to support her but now it seemed as though she was being introduced to another side of her that she wasnt entirely sure that she liked or recognized.

“Girls”. She heard a voice call out from behind her and she let out a sigh as she turned to find Nathan looking towards her with worry. “You guys don't worry. It is going to be alright. We are going to figure it out.” He said to her. She didn't know how it was that he was seeming so calm.

She found herself worrying but she knew that she was at least glad to have him there. It helped to provide her with some form of protection even if it wasn't much.

“Now come on let us go i side and Rahcel you shoul d know better than to put this on her you know it wasn't her fault.” He said to her and Rachel looked towards Cammy with an apologetic look on her face. She couldn't help but blush as she shook her head at her. It really wasn't anything for her to take to heart.

"i know that this isn't easy for you guys.” She said to her in a mutter under her breath. They came to a stop at the front door as she felt her whole body tense. She had to make sure that nothing happened to either of them.

When they slowly made their way inside she felt her lips wobble as her entire body tensed at the sight of broken glass on the floor.

“Okay you guys stay here and i am going to check upstairs.” He said to them and they nodded their heads at him in understanding. Cammy felt tears well up in her eyes but then she noticed something amongst the broken shards of the coffee table.

It looked like a letter. “What are you doing?” Rachel asked her when she went to pick it up. She shook her head at her in response as she unwrapped it and began to read over the contents of the letter. She felt her entire body freeze as she read over it.

"you thought that you could hide out here but I am coming for you.” She felt her hands begin to shake. It was a mistake coming here.

“You are right this is all my fault and I can't stay here. I can't continue to put you guys. The people that I love and care about are in danger over and over again.” She said to her desperately.

“I didn't mean that. I had said it out of anger. You know that I can't let you go anywhere. It wasn't your fault that any of this happened”. Rahel said to her in a pleading tone as she tried her best to reason with her but she only shook her head at her in response.

“They already threatened you and who knows what they will do next. I won't be able to deal with myself if something bad were to happen to you.” She said to her.

“Where would you go then?” She asked. “Pack to my apartment. It is better for all of us.”

She heard a loud growl causing her to still. “The only place you are coming is with me.”

She swiveled around to meet those familiar blue eyes. “River.”
