Chapter 2140 2150
Chapter 2140 2150
Savage—that was the name of the wild-looking young man. His father had passed away from an illness when he was young, and his mother had died in childbirth, leaving him entirely on her own.
He had been left all by himself until the old crone took him in and raised him.
Because of some congenital deficiencies, his intelligence had never fully developed, leaving him with the mental capacity of a young child of just a few years old.
Yet, his martial arts talent was nothing short of explosive. At only twenty-four or twenty-five years old, he had already reached the absolute limit of the Half-Step Flame Decay level.
Chloe had sparred with him before and figured that while her Inherent Skill might be stronger, she wasn't necessarily guaranteed to beat Savage in a direct fight.
They had been trekking on foot for over a day now, and they still had about half a day's journey left before reaching Phoenix City.
Since most of them were martial artists, their pace was far from slow.
"Holy Maiden... Chloe!" the old crone muttered, stumbling slightly over the phrasing.
She still instinctively wanted to address Chloe as the Holy Maiden, but Chloe always felt awkward hearing it and had repeatedly told everyone to simply call her Chloe instead.
Even so, the group struggled to break the habit and found the new form of address rather unnatural.
"Chloe," the crone asked, "is it really true that there's a host of the Dragon Bone?"
"Mm-hmm!" Chloe replied. "We all came from the same hometown together, and he's super powerful! Though... now that I've broken through to the Permanent-Tier, I can finally show off and rub it in his face when we get back!"
They had spent all these days on the road and had no idea about the massive upheaval taking place in the outside world.
The group chatted and laughed as they hurried along toward Phoenix City!
Meanwhile, the news continued to sweep across the entire Myriad Tribulation Star.
Over the dark waters of the Underworld, an aircraft floated quietly on the surface of the sea. Two figures emerged from within it, and the Drunkard, holding a flask of wine in hand, stepped onto the deck and spoke indifferently, "Head to Phoenix City!"
He had already received the news—including the intelligence that Soul Hall and the Vampire Clan were joining forces to launch an attack on Phoenix City!
As for everything happening outside, it had no immediate bearing on Liam. At this moment, he and his team were making their way downward, floor by floor.
"We've arrived!" Stella announced at last. "We've successfully reached the ninety-ninth floor from the top down. Let's check the map!"
"Leo, Axel, go string up lights all along the perimeter!" Stella instructed.
Liam took the initiative to grab several lanterns and hung them around the area. Within moments, a small zone around them lit up brightly.
They were surrounded by a network of corridors, preserved in remarkably pristine condition. Lining both sides of the passageways were countless rooms—the vast majority of which had already been breached and looted, though a small fraction remained firmly sealed shut.
The headquarters of Promise Corporation was essentially a colossal vault of treasures monopolized by the Eight Great Clans, where people relied on sheer luck, holding the right keys, and developing new sectors to unearth valuable technology.
Once the surroundings were illuminated, Liam and the others gathered around the map to study it intently. A moment later, Max's expression lit up with excitement. "The layout around here matches the map almost perfectly. This must be the right floor!"
Liam and the rest let out collective sighs of relief!
If the Creation Needles had been located on the ninety-ninth floor counting upward from the bottom, searching the unmapped, uncharted lower floors would have proven an absolute nightmare. Not only would it have been perilously dangerous, but it also would have consumed an enormous amount of time!
"Let's move!" Liam ordered.
Stella pulled up the detailed records compiled by the Ancient Clan for the explored zones of the ninety-ninth floor, which meticulously noted every potential danger and automated trap.
With the aid of these notes, Liam's team successfully bypassed quite a few hidden hazards.
Two hours later, they arrived in front of a heavy door that remained tightly shut.
What left Liam marveling was that despite thousands of years having passed, not a single speck of dust clung to the surface of the door, though he had no clue what kind of advanced alloy it was forged from.
A look of excitement washed over Max's face.
He knew very well that unlike elites like Liam and Chloe, his chances of breaking through to the Permanent-Tier himself were practically nonexistent!
